Confirmed with Link: Jay Woodcroft and Dave Manson fired - no more Woody during NNN - Kris Knoblauch hired, Coffey as assistant

Can’t help but think this is a major mistake. The pathetic shooting percentage and save percentage will both go back up regardless of coaching

Just getting a chance to read through the thread now.
It's funny that so many here crapped on Woody endlessly starting with last years' playoffs and now all the sentiment that he didn't deserve this. Odd

I've always been of the mindset that this isn't Woody's fault but it seemed pretty clear to me that the top players in particular were tuning him out as they tend to do after a year or two with their previous coaches. I don't think it's a coincidence that we saw a much higher effort level and attention to detail from the core guys in the Seattle game almost as if they knew that the job to get Woody fired was accomplished.

I thought Woody was largely responsible for the loss last year because of his refusal to start Campbell. But I also thought he would learn from it. You can criticize someone and still support them.

Why didn't Knoblauch bring Steve Smith with him? Coffey is a legend, but Smith is a LEGEND. We need more of our guys to play like him, not Coffey

Because Coffey has been Katz’s go to guy for years

I just watched about 15 minutes of the presser. I get bored quickly of the same answers being rephrased-lol. If the defense still sucks under Coffey, he already gave himself an out by saying he didn't want to coach but said "ok, I'll do it to help" because he was voluntold by his boss.

I do wonder though if there was a tug-o-war going on between Coffey & Manson. The way those answers sounded, Coffey talks to the d-men alot to begin with.

With Knoblauch, I thought he spoke fine. Of course he's going to be nervous AF, it's his first presser as an NHL coach in a hockey-mad environment. He knows what he's getting into especially with the pressure put on him.

Once again though, and time will tell if this is the right hire, but this is coach #4 where no formal interview process was held. They had their sights set on one person and hired him.

McLellan, Tippett, Woodcroft, now Knobby.
They went from Just the Tip to Full Wood to Just the Knob.
However, through all of it they've fully f***ed the fans.

I can't help but think these conversations go like the Janitor & Eric in "Billy Madison".

Katz: "Anymore info, Coff?"

The Coff: "Leon.......likes to drink soda. Lauren's car......is green."

I didn't say it is a bad move... but it is obvious that the Oilers try to please McDavid... from Foegele, Brown, Jackson and now to Knoblauch....

heck even Nurse got that contract in part because he is close to McDavid... well that may be a reach....;)

but I am not sure whether all these moves are in the best interest for the Oilers... unless this is what it takes that McDavid will not walk in FA....
Where does this even come from? The contract sucks, but he 100% got it b/c he is friends with McDavid? Man this site has gone pure TMZ

Looks like it. There’s a lot of support for Woody and lots that say he shouldn’t have been fired. Me included.

Just Twitter and Reddit along with here to get an idea. Is that not possible?
I see the majority agreeing a shakeup like coaching was necessary but some felt Woodcroft firing was unjust.
It was just he didn't get us the cup. Next.

I look at it as a trade like thing with coaches. Just don't know where they will go. Woody now gets paid to do nothing.

Spun by the Rangers board to see what their take was...some disappointed to see him go as Hartford was off to a good start, some even saying he'll turn the Oilers around. McTony asked for some thoughts on him and only one responded with a lengthy post but did say "he did a decent job but nothing special" at the start of his post but then ended it by saying he was mediocre, so I'm not sure which one it is. Decent or mediocre.
That ending lol. It sounded like he didn't want for me to get happy so he jumped in with some out of left field negativity LOL

Just a week ago even the most ardent Woody fans here were saying he should be fired. Maybe today some buyers remorse but I'm absolutely thrilled the Woody saga is over.

Gulutzan was the best coach we had and he's retained. He's the only one that was making an impact on the club and with obvious results. The Woody "success" could be attributed largely to McDrai, and Gulutzan.

The D looked uncoached under Manson. Its tragic his wife passed away but that would be a difficult thing to get over and to continue with business, and a demanding role, so soon after. One should ideally take some self care time after a tragedy like that.

yeah, this is a tough environment to get into and I'm liking what I'm seeing from Knoblauch so far.

Unlike Woody this isn't somebody thats going to spend half his time what he looks and sounds like in glib sound bites. I'm actually pumped at the changes. But I sure didn't buy into Woody. Couldn't stand him as a head coach here. We probably didn't get the best of Manson here due to his circumstance.

But its likely we see transformed play from guys like Nurse, Ekholm, Broberg, Booch as well as forwards like Holloway. So many players got out of Woody jail just now. Like I said in Saturdays game you could already see how thrilled Holloway/McLeod/Nurse were knowing Woody is gone. I saw their best games of the season.

Gulutzan is a fine coach. Now we got Knoblauch who will be an involved coach. Already talking about player inputs.

The coach bump is real.

Just look at the lowly Canucks and how bringing in Bruce changed that team, pretty much 2 wins to one loss and the next year Tocchet shows up with the same results. Neither coach had much time to institute a new system. This happened with the Canucks, a team that has half the wins of the Oilers. They didn't change anything else just the coach.
The Canucks have made some savvy moves to their roster. They didn't simply just change coaches.

Ofc Connors pregame interview is significantly shorter than the others, why should the captain have anything to say..right?
