Paul Coffey runs the team
They are so f***ed if so.

So Katz is already bypassing JJ and going straight to Coffey and McDavid? He won’t stay long if that’s the case. He has so much talent and many career options.

He won’t stand for being a figurehead. If he isn’t the CEO and person in full control of this corporate organization, then it’s a real f***ing mess.

I don’t think Gazzola is 100% correct about Coffey. I think Coffey has Katz’ ear but it doesn’t make sense that he’s running the team. That’s likely on Jackson, who not only was hired by Katz but also represents McDavid in a figurative sense.

Regardless, that’s still too many cooks in the kitchen. I think Holland still has some say in things too.

I think Holland was mostly running the ship in the past. But it’s clear from that presser that he isn’t running it now.

The team is in 31st place. I’d question your allegiance if you were happy about this.

Nowhere did I say I’m happy with the teams performance. However, I am willing to give Knoblauch a chance to see if he can right the ship.

Unlike you, I don’t spend my life here bitching about every little thing the team does or doesn’t do. Nice try though

Nah I don’t think JJ is being bypassed. I think its JJ and PC running the team at this point. But I agree, I think it’s a mess.

Thanks.

I doubt that Speedy has connections anymore but this sounds like something this organization would do.

I've said this many times. The biggest problem isn't the Lowes, MacTs, Chiarellis, Hollands, Nicholsons of the world or pick any coaching scapegoat of your choice. It's Katz and this Country Club atmosphere that he enables.

Yeah I know he's done good with the new arena and Ice District although through slimy means but he's a major problem when it comes to hiring hockey people. He has found a way to ruin the Hall era with the first DoD and is finding a way to ruin not one but two of the best players in the league Edmonton careers with a second DoD dawning on us as we speak. This Coffey thing wouldn't surprise me one bit and is par for the course. Jackson, Coffey and Knoblauch is the new version of OBC.
I don't know. After listening to that presser, we should be happy literally anyone is running the team instead of Holland.

Sorry
Just said to another - a few posters had the link. It's unreal to me. Like 12 year olds
I just listened.

It’s surreal what appears to be happening. This falls on ownership.

I’ve been giving Katz a lot of rope and space, a guy like him doesn’t build what he does without having a lot of smarts and having good people, but I’m beginning to think when it comes to pharmaceuticals he had his dad and others, with real estate he had good property people and with the hockey club he continues to believe that the OBC are THE experts and the only ones.

Well, not in this day and age of the NHL. He needs a new circle of advisors on the hockey front. I thought it was Jeff Jackson and a runway given to him to build and create but this Paul Coffey influence is beyond being a large irritation. Shit show.

Probably you are right. Why can’t he understand that Coffey is yesterdays man when it comes to understanding todays NHL. Some Xers here will be surprised to hear a boomer say something like that.

yeah. there was an effort to show unity, but it was pretty easy to see through it. I don't think--given the backdrop of unity--it could be clearer that Holland had nothing to do with Knoblauch.

And Knoblauch didn't impress me much in that interview. My initial impression was a nervous 'yes' type-guy a la Scott Howson.. We will see how he is when he's knee-deep in the shit.

Holland talked to the players. He always does.

Jackson probably didn’t.

Holland might be a figurehead but it’s not like he can’t still do things that don’t require oversight.

Jackson straight up said "we didn't consult with the players" so I'm curious who the "we" is in his statement. Probably him and Coffey? Holland is completely out of the loop.

Again I don’t think people should take what Gazzola said at full face value.

Coffey running the team would make more sense if Jackson didn’t exist. I doubt Katz bypasses Jackson.

Why would you doubt that? Coffey is a Katz guy, Jackson is a McDavid guy.

If this is the case (and I suspect that it is) then why bother carrying on with this charade that Holland is involved?
Why would the organization put Holland in a situation where he could very well embaraass himself and the org?
Why not just reassign him to another post in the organization and then retire him at the end of the season?

I am still trying to figure out why Coffey is even on the bench.

Mcdavids consultation probably only went as far as “we need to make a change in coach and we are thinking of Knoblauch. Thoughts?”

Interesting day. I’m not a fan of the way some people were talking to each other today in this forum. Yikes

This is hockey. It’s a game. Let’s up the kindness peeps.

At this point we have a mystery box.

To quote Gump. “Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re going to get”.

Team wasn’t winning. And play like this gets coaches fired in most pro sports leagues.

Time to cheer and turn up the hope meter.

I thought Coffey was pretty much out of the game and was brought in as a part time advisor? Now he's been apparently much more involved than we ever thought. Katz doesn't seem like he's too worried about winning a cup, just the social aspect of it. This is an aristocracy, they seldom are efficient.

I think both of them talked to the players but Jackson is trying to put all the heat on his shoulders.

This is the most rational explanation,

Holland is a bit exasperated and ok putting some of the blame on the players while Jackson is the 5 piece suit corporate expression of running a 6 houer board meeting.
