Jackson is a Katz guy too imo. Make no mistakes.

Katz is running a gong show. No other NHL franchise is run like this.

just wait for all the trades that will be made over the next two years.

last year was the best it will get.

Bouchard and McLeod will be demanding trades. They will argue that they can’t win with this group Of players.

Drai will be traded to the Wings for a second rounder and a back up goalie.

Seems like Woody's inability to quickly adapt to adversity is what did him in. This goes back to the Vegas series and that followed into the season. He ran out of answers. I know Holland has a lot to do with the team being iced but Woodcroft's limited NHL coaching experience finally showed itself and that's what did him in. I might have waited a few games more before making a coaching change though. It's definitely not all on him . Holland played a big part in not addressing this team's needs. He should have been let go as well. Wish Woody good luck.

Holland talked to the players. He always does.

Jackson probably didn’t.

Holland might be a figurehead but it’s not like he can’t still do things that don’t require oversight.
I see it this way too. Way much more nuance than a sound byte takeaway.

Think of the Oilers week that was. Get beat by a good Dallas team. Be embarrassed at home against a usual patsy opponent. Fly to Vancouver to be embarrassed again by the Canuckles. Suspect goaltending an obvious culprit throughout. Spinning around the management orbit were all things including getting a sense of morale within a fragile team; maybe poke around intent to send down a popular teammate (Nice Guy Jack) to mitigate surprise and alienation of the leadership group; engage further with embarrassing loss to AHL San Jose Sharks. There was speculation mid-week of a prospective deal that the Oil might have backed away from.

Tons of high event considerations with reason to get eyes on this team's leadership and some specific items that perhaps warranted disclosure. It's a season on the brink. No reason to believe this is a Watergate cover-up. Easy to jump to conclusions though given organizational buffoonery history and Jackson's relationship with the team's generational super star.

The problem again with all this is the Oilers have now hired a new head coach to whom their future new GM will be tied to. Once again all is out of synch with how this team operates its business.

Fun fact…. Knoblauch and Dave Manson were both Assistant coaches for the Prince Albert Raiders in the same season- 2006.

This is also likely but lying right after your GM said he did talk to the players makes them look so dumb lol. Like the clip showed, it was seamless from Holland saying yes I talked to them to Jackson saying no "WE" didn't consult them.
Holland is the kid sitting at the adult table now. Bad drafting and contracts has given him a minimal role this year.

The whole thing is a mess. Holland should have been fired and publicly humiliated. He would rather the Red Wings win than the Oilers. I bet he tries to trade 29 to the Wings for a bucket of pucks and a back up goalie Before the end of the season.
This. It's ridiculous how he keeps constantly HARPING about his Detroit days. You're being paid $25 million by the Oilers now to help them win a championship. He's living in the past, he just makes it so obvious that the game has passed him

I have a lot of time for Jay Woodcroft the person. Conducted himself with class even with some of the hokey elements of his coaching persona (practising with lines only to change them at game time like that was a fake-out for opposition; a little too cutesy with media; positive mantra stuff like manage your day which clearly didn't land with this adult group). But these are all quibbles for a guy that accepted a demotion to stay within this organization to build his portfolio as a head coach and helped carve out the first meaningful playoff success in years.

He will get another chance and sooner than later. This guy is self-reflective and has a growth mindset to learn and improve. The next stop will have more runway and less vitriol because of the organization's systemic long-term fail that makes every Oil coach the next saviour and next dog kicked when the player issues re-emerge.

As they say in corporate Calgary, 'what do you call the fella from Saskatchewan? ... Boss!' haha. Sasky Knoblauch is a good coach who's next up in the Tilt-a-Whirl called the Oilers. Four management groups and 10 coaches leading into a Cup expectation is a virtual cauldron of hades to airlift into your first NHL coaching job.

Coffey bring some of the Cup wisdom and poise I felt this collection of individuals needed in a new head coach. He'll be a good lean-on to this green banana coach but this whole team. But there's no miracle workers in this profession. Hopefully Oiler fans might finally come to this conclusion after 10x Groundhog Day movies starring the newest genius to arrive in Oil Country.
Thats a rather positive perspective on Coffey.
Being that he is a close friend of Katz this presents itself as a move with very questionable optics.

The OBC is fully in charge and I'm not surprised.
We've gone from the B/D tier alumni OBC members running the team, to Hockey Canada OBC members running thing, to A tier Oilers alumni taking over now. Hopefully it goes more like the Sakic era in Colorado than a revisit of the Lowe era in Edmonton.

What possible f***ing reason did they have to do this

I hate this organization

Every coach gets 3 years, Kris would be stupid to take anything less than 3 years with the general insecurity of the position(especially on the oilers). He's uplifting his whole life and moving across the continent.

It doesn't count against the cap and there are no penalties for firing him(except for Katz), so no one should care what the coach is getting.

I think it’s obvious Jackson wanted Knoblauch the minute he got here and the teams play gave him the chance he needed.

If McDavid suddenly starts to play better…maybe it was intentional by McD

This just isn't the case. Especially being paired with a complimentary D like Huddy. But Coffey skated miles, could cover back better than anybody given his speed, and he often handled 2 on 1's impeccably. He was gifted all over the ice. Anybody looking for something to denigrate Coffey with were saying the bolded. I was at the games. His reads and reactions were excellent. has to be remembered that Coffey was incredibly productive offensively. He evaluated on a risk/reward basis and jump would be on because thats where he was predatory. Its natural he would jump plays as he was the best in the business at it.

The org is chronically about least effort possible. So that Coffey was here, around, and so that the avaiability and connection of him is part of it. Not saying thats good, and this has all the looks of Nepotism at face, but that doesn't preclude that Coffey could actually be good in the role.
Thanks for posting this. Cool to hear from someone that was actually at Coffey's games.

curious To see how this plays out.

I tend to think that the whole thing goes south, but who knows.
