I might be in the minority here but I didn't deem the press conference as a gong show at all. I was fine with it.

For now, I'll have the wait and see approach.

I liked how Coffey responded back and I think he'll do a fine job.

Knobgobbler seems more like a doer rather than a smooth talker so time will tell.

Hopefully the players respond in a positive fashion and who knows, this might work out great. If not.. well Fook it. It wasn't working anyways and Kenny will be gone and massive changes will take place with the core.

The McDavid era is all but done imo. Wasted too much time with abysmal management and decision making.

It’s sad but it’s the truth and a reality.

I’ll be shocked if the team gets above 0.500
Just rebuild. Team is screwed. The people calling the shots have rocks for brains.

What i got from it was that Jackson was a little miffed that Kenny was stoking the narrative that you mentioned in the end of your post. Whether Kenny was aware of it or not. Why bother mentioning the leadership groups input at all? I'm sure Jackson feels it adds a level of undue criticism and pressure to these players who are clearly having difficulties dealing with their current situation. I just found it funny that Kenny's new boss totally stuffed him 2 seconds after he spoke. Then finished up with something like," Just because he was Connors coach in 2015 doesn't have anything to do with him being hired here.."
Agree. 100% they talked to the guys beforehand. Doesn't mean they had any final say. You have to take people input before making a big decision. The guys on the ice are the ones that dictate what happens next. If they were more positive to make a change, you make the change.

Holland should have said the same thing Jackson said lol. Looked like an idiot there.

Only 1 more or perhaps 2 more years of this disaster and my time as a fan is done. Once this nepotistic, black hole of a franchise in the middle of nowhere, being gifted from the hockey gods and still fail thier fans and city, then it's pretty much all she wrote.

That's too bad. Your Positivity Thread just went one and done. ;)

You must have completely missed 2007 to 2015

What's going on now is mild in comparison.

Put another coach on the Oiler funeral pyre. Woodcroft is a quality human being and a good coach albeit one who was overrated by an element of this fanbase. Wish Woody the best of luck for his future endeavours. Came in and won and has now left with a win.

Unfortunately this is a team that has proven incapable of sustaining its work effort, self discipline and structured play for any enduring period of time. Knoblauch is a solid coach but this is an immense first NHL coaching assignment littered with good coaches failing to get this corpse team to change its individual and collective bad habits.

Posted elsewhere but applicable here:

I've long argued NHL coaching is a small piece of the puzzle with approx. 20% impact on games while players bare 80% of results good & bad in this high speed, high chaos game. That there's a few impact coaches but largely interchangeable ones like we've seen x10 in Edmonton.

  • Our estimates imply that coaches often explain 20-30 percent of the variation in a team’s success. Substantively, that’s a large effect, and it’s well worth investing in a good coach if you can identify one. But if a coach has only served a few seasons, a good record doesn’t provide much information about their quality. More likely than not, the other factors that explain the remaining 70-80 percent of the variation were working in that coach’s favor, and we’ll expect regression to the mean in future years.
Good fortune Coach Knoblauch. This systemic malaise is not a coaching issue.
Great post.

If only some here could just do the same. They just want to bitch, whine, moan all day lol
If we ever win a cup under McDrai era, the very same people will probably find a negative out of it somehow

I'm all in favour of the Oilers winning a cup so we can find out if people will be negative about it.

Not really. Once McDavid leaves this org will never be in contention ever again.
Yes they will. How were they before? You know what will happen here. We get nothing done with McDrai, then years later we will go further with a less skilled and more balanced team lol.

Because...Oilers

Im listening to the presser now..

Paul Coffey - "Ive liked EVERYTHING about our blueline. Unfortunettly sometimes weve been a little bit inconsistent".
oof. First time coach btw. I really hope this works out but I guess if the blueline is close to perfect he wont have to do much so we're good.

Yeah we saw how well that worked for ten years.

It took a generational talent and another player who isn’t far behind just to make this a playoff team. Our drafting is ridiculously bad. We aren’t seeing players of this caliber again anytime soon.

I had to laugh at Gazzolas question if the players were involved in the decision.

Holland: Yes. Jackson: No. You can tell Jackson was a players agent and is protecting his client. Holland was just being honest, but because hes been a GM from the teams side for so long that he didnt even think about it.

Holland is a mess man, I’m glad people are pretty much unanimously seeing this now. I’m sure he’s a great guy, he had a legendary career, but it’s passed him by. Just retire dude.

I read a random comment that Knoblauch has a good relationship with Carter Hart, that might be interesting if true.

Holland can’t just fire Woodcroft and wash his hands clean. No. Get a f***ing goalie or you’re just going to screw over Knobber and the rest of the team.
