Confirmed with Link: Jay Woodcroft and Dave Manson fired - no more Woody during NNN - Kris Knoblauch hired, Coffey as assistant

What if Woody was actually a good head coach stifled by Dave Manson’s shitty D coaching? I mean there’s reason to think Manson was a huge downgrade from Playfair.

Knoblauch plus Nepotism Paul could be the same story. Or worse. Likely worse.
I think Woody is too loyal to Manson and that's why he's gone.

meawhile the Oilers are 6th in the entire league in W/L since Woodcroft took over

great hire guys
Woody has had poor season starts every year he's been here. Look at his cumulative record before NYE in seasons. 22-23 it was 20-16-2 Now this season a dismal 3-9-1 This adds up to 23-25-3 in his teams early season starts. Thats not pretty.

What it indicates is that the Woody alleged success is not due to Woody at all. Its due to McDRai always heating up in back half of seasons and vast majority of Woodys record is in that last half time frame. It was the perfect time for a coach to come in. Bozo the clown could have a great record at phases where McDrai heat up.

The meaningful variable is McDrai heating up.

I don't even have anything against Knoblauch but how is he all that different from Woodcroft? Maybe he'll adjust better, I don't know. But this all screams of trying to appease one player in the desperate hopes he doesn't leave. All because the GMs and scouting staff haven't done their jobs or were incompetent hires to begin with, and abdicated all sense of professional responsibility. If they had built the roster properly, if they had drafted and developed actual players rather than pretenders, if they had even chosen the right players in the draft to begin with.. none of the problems would be as magnified or even evident as they are now.

They've had incompetent morons staffing all the critical areas of the organization for years though, and their chickens are coming home to roost in the McDavid / Draisaitl era. All their bad choices and the poor decision making, in nearly every facet of the organization, has had cascading effects that have rippled outward and compounded over a decade at least. Just unreal watching it all unfold as a fan.

obviously they play a huge part in the teams success, but he's gotten more out of them than any other coach

Then why have a coach at all?

I feel like I’ve been waiting for Coffey to make an impact on this team for a long time. I remember thinking maybe he can unlock some potential in our D and it’s worth a try at the least. But hasn’t he had his chance? He tried and could he point to a D-man he actually made better in his time here?

A shitty coach does not have a .695 winning percentage quit talking out of your ass his was better than Tmac and Tippet, Tmac is doing quite fine in LA you're cherry picking this is hilarious where you can pick out any team's bad stretches

No he hasn't. Less of a roster played better under Tippett. The ONLY difference in record is that Woody had benefit of coaching two back halves of seasons. Thats it.

In anycase when Tip came in here he took over a team that missed playoffs consecutive seasons. He turned the team around immensely. That I don't think can be attributed to Woody. The Oilers were actually extremely good coming out of the gate that season. 16-5 at one point. Like this team is prone to do they had a lull at some point in season and Tippett got fired for it despite the team still being 5 games over .500.

In contrast Woody is fired for haviing the worst seasonal record in the history of the club.

Woodcroft was the most successful oilers coach is years yet has that short of a leash?
What did he and Manson show you systems wise and accountability wise when his 2 top players were not going supernova and the PP was not historic?

I like Woody, but this guy was just throwing sh** against the wall this year. Systems changes, did not have more than 1 system in games, blendering lines like a tool, benching rookies after one mistake, etc.

You can't make 5 changes in one day. Unfortunately for Woody, he is one that needed to be made. There are many more. GM, Goalie coach, players.

Coffey has on and off been in some sort of 'consultant' role with this team. He did coach in junior.. until he used a racial slur against a coach of another team and was let go. So he has a rather ignominious record in that regard.

We essentially hired McDavid's old junior coach and another holdover 'old boys' club' card carrying member. Like I said before, Jackson was a connection hire because they're clearly trying to appease one, perhaps two players instead of running a f***ing professional hockey franchise. This f***ing organization, man. Bush league garbage through and through.

Hiring McDavid's buddies and surrounding and mollycoddling him has not helped this franchise. They have by and large been failed experiments. If there had been any kind of competency we'd have brought in the right mix of players and found, drafted and developed guys on rookie contracts. They'd be pushing up through the system and contributing meaningfully within 2-3 years of getting drafted, like other organizations. Instead we are left with this utter shit show, where one player is essentially running an organization (even if he is a superstar generational player, you can't run the f***ing organization catering to his every f***ing whim and desire.. especially when he hasn't led you to a god damn cup or anything remotely close).

For the poster asking, btw, this is Nuge's TENTH coach. 10 f***ing coaches. Just the sheer incompetence, god damn...
Really tells you who the #1 coach killer is here and how Nuge's leadership is. The most constant thing there is RNH

How many series did Tippett's Oilers win in the playoffs?

They were literally an Adin Hill away from a Cup last year. Give him a goalie

look at the numbers Woodcroft got with Skinner and Campbell as his goalies and Cody Ceci on the first pair

We replaced Woodcroft with an CHL/AHL coach. Jackson and Coffey are a joke.

Next time people feel sorry for McDavid not winning anything, remember the guy would rather be comfortable than winning.

Hopefully GM McDavid is happy. Hes been calling the shots for awhile.

Yeah let's run McDavid out of town.
