I'm scared of him trading away Reinhart away for the same "reasons" why he traded ROR.

The scary part is that there is no signing bonus being a barrier for a trade.

Any playoff contending team would take Reinhart in a heartbeat and I can honestly see Botts trading him for a 1st round pick.

Im more concerned with him trading another 1st, or a player who is significantly better than he realizes (Pilut, Ruotsalainen)

The one thing I've taken from Bogo's surreal presence on the roster, is that Botterill will cow tow to Eichel, so I'm less worried about Reinhart being traded in that sense.

It would be the classic spin of "we don't know how we might handle the cap in three years" conversation too. Not like every good team has that conversation when the cap impacts actually come to be during a particular summer. No no, we Sabre fans have to watch the spin doctoring of trading players because maybe, someday, there might be some cap money issues.

If he deals Reinhart, get out the pitchforks and torches.

What would be coming back for Reinhart that would make the team better? They can’t identify talent so no way a Reinhart deal improves this team.

Magic beans and a couple of cap dump players who are both visually and metrically bad, but we'll hear about veteran depth and all that.

The interesting part about Darcy Regier - is that after 16 years at GM - I started justifying it, thinking "He's getting more and more experience. No one knows the team better. Every bad decision is at least informative." And it's funny, to now think how collectively, we're impatient with Botterill after 2.5 years. Just interesting, comparing the two - without looking into the details of the why, and how.

At one point and time I thought they might trade Sam based on his contract negotiations and a number of subtle tea leaves, but I don't see it anymore. There were definite rumblings about RoR from the TSN talking heads for several months before he ultimately got traded, and I haven't heard anything outside of some paranoid thoughts from sabres analytics twitter.

At this point its a hypothetical that probably wont come true, and if it does we can be mad about it then.

I just dont know why, after seasons of misery, people want to torture themselves thinking about things that haven't happened but could go wrong. We have enough actual issues to lament

Darcy had bigger targets above his head in Quinn & Golisano, they created a situation that would handicap any GM. It was easy to make excuses for some of the results during his tenure.

It appears that Botts has full control of the entire hockey operations department, so there's no finger pointing; bad results fall squarely on his shoulders.

It's just a thought based on his past actions, and I'm sure there will be pressure to improve the team.

Most of Regier's best work was early. He inherited a solid group of players (Hasek, Satan and Peca) and made a solid coaching hire with Ruff. His best player trades seemed to be all pre-2004, in the first half of his tenure. They road that initial group to some success, then the wheels started to fall off the bus, he used some of it to get a bounce in the middle of his tenure, but the value bleed and poor development/drafting lead to Tank Nation ultimately and were we are now.

Maybe Botts isn’t as safe as I thought.

The Sabres resumed their season with a 5–2 home loss to Ottawa on Tuesday night. At all-star weekend, I heard some talk of the frustration around the organization and how much the losing is wearing on owner Terry Pegula. We’re coming up on nine years since he bought the Sabres. At that media conference, he promised to spend, which had Sabres fans dancing with joy. He’s spent on players, coaches, executives, scouting — everything. They made the playoffs that first season, losing in seven games to Philadelphia. But there have been no playoff berths since, and the team is 80 games under .500 in that span.

Players credited Ralph Krueger with changing the attitude around the team, and Jack Eichel’s having a Hart Trophy-calibre season. But they’re 10 points out as we wake up on Wednesday and there are no easy answers. The disappointment is not going unnoticed.

Just read that myself and did a little dance in my office chair. Please, oh please let it be so.

That's definitely a relief, I don't understand how anyone could possibly trust JB to fix this team in the offseason and the Pegula's must be tired of losing. They need to get a President of Hockey Ops and shell out for a quality, proven GM.

When Botterill came in and brought vet FO guy Sexton and up-and-coming FO guy Greeley in, it was nice to see the addition of some more minds to the stable. But just like his first summer of roster moves... what else is there? Like, two is a nice start. Get more. Rick Dudley has had some solid drafting results over the years and he still lives in Lockport - seems like someone they could sell on coming aboard again. They need more good voices, more sets of eyes finding actual players either pro or draftees or UDFA's. What they have right now is different than Murray, but it isn't getting any different results.

Dump him now .. Save the season .. Find a good poker player that used to. bet on hockey amd pair him w a the talent scout that found oloffson..and even that lame tandem first timers could at least stop amd kill the Jason tankagain.... I feel abused looking fir trades since Berglund amd it turns out.. That prick waa right to give away ten million and the team is still screwed without a physical center....over a year.. Joe botts sucks if he has failed over a year and a half tp give one of the best players in the league help now w some pipe dream of pressure for prospects to have open tryouts and waste twp seasons.. I'm done sticking up for big head joe boo who thought himself into a corner and is too much of a miser egomaniac to pay the fine and help his players ... It must be deliberate... And even more reason to can this prick w a hockey guy that won't overhaul and give ralph what he needs to win.. F U jb joe boo w no voo doo.... A 7 year old girl ocould trade a first round d a cap dump amd a pick amd got us a player that is in the top 60 in points that can play dahockey. A little girl .on a school project givem 18 months .. .. You hung a team that gives its all much of the time under Ralph out to dry and adapted to change as well as an extinct animal... Great job.. Doooossshh.. I feel betrayed typing sabres trade over and over amd seeing hawruchuck ..l..lafontaime etc.. And a we are closed

But weeere trying

Really we are.. F u eichel and every player on the streak last year..yr just not good enough to give away toys. .

I mean, if that Friedman report is true, f***ing fire him today. Don’t wait to see what’s next. Move him now, contact every experienced management guy in the league, and say “I’ve got a big check and a core containing Eichel Reinhart Dahlin Joker Skinner. Come make this a contender”

My fear in that? It'll be Shero. Ex-Penguins, gotta catch 'em all!

Call Mark Hunter and ask him if he wants to repeatedly stick it back to Leafs for passing him over for Dubas.

Amen brother.. This guy needs to be demoted to carry coffee for someone who can actually help his team or his house burned down and run out on a rail led away by pennies over the rainbow if he cant make a decent cup of coffee.. Go blow another gm amd give us a chance to compete and our prospects a chance to develope ...
