He keeps talking about players not producing up to expectation/norms.

I think he expected Vesey to score 20 goals this year.

Yeah, I think he outsmarted himself thinking shuffling Vesey into a third line role after 2nd line minutes that he would suddenly produce. Or Sheary to levels he did coattailing Crosby. Holy f***.

I want to buy this man a beer and give him a piece of my mind over it.

yikes

Schopp asks if they'll be buyers or sellers, and Botts says after this homestretch he'll talk to the pegulas about the direction of the team

Which is a sidestep, but the easy answer there would be that if it goes well, they stand pat or add, if not they sell. Don't tell us you have to talk to Kim and Terry after this home stand. This should already be evident. It's comments like this that make it easy to think he has no idea what he's doing.

Ya that’s not promising.
Another less than inspiring interview. How about a simple, “Jason what is your vision for this organization’’

Why even bother asking questions there are no answers to? I think it's pretty clear Botterill has no vision. Or, based on his comment about conferring with the Pegulas, at least he's the wrong guy to be asking since his vision isn't the one he's executing.

All of the plaudits and laurels before he was hired. Clearly the praise about his intelligence and cap management should have been taken heavily salted.

Buff mentioned that Botts seems like the last holdout of the Old Guard, the old boys club of doing things via who you know and old techniques instead of anything modern.

But he's "great". :biglaugh:

I don’t doubt he’s a smart person. But I doubt he’s a functional GM.

I think Botts just talks about long-term in interviews because he knows his team is pathetic and there's no fixing it any time soon. People are mad at the results on the ice and there's no solution in sight? Better talk about development!

Except he didn’t.

Bulldog: “aside from Thompson and mitts, what forwards in Rochester are considered nhl prospects”

botts: “jack and sam are still developing! Did you know that?!”

I’m serious too. That really happened.

Trade for a quality starter. Risto must have a lot of value, and can bring in a top (23-27) not too old goalie.

There will be no Binnington moment. There will be no point at which they give Johansson a shot as a starter until it is far too late.
