What's crazy is since Botterill actually tried to improve the roster by adding Montour they've been the worst team in hockey.

I think if Murray was more likable off the ice and better conducted himself and the organization he would've gotten more time. His rashness and being unprofessional turned off the Pegulas.

I would agree with this. Bricking most of the 2014 and 2015 drafts did not help his cause either.

You said "All of Botterill's bad contracts were going to end before any of Murray's"

That is incorrect. If you said "Murray's worst contract will expire after Botterill's worst contract" you would have been correct.

I also wouldn't refer to Berglund's contract as "temporary", it was a 4 year deal that went past Dahlin's ELC.

Either way, Botts is a clown and I fail to see how people still support him. Botts took a last place team and thought the way to improve it was trading the 2nd best player.

Yeah...need more draft picks and prospects traded for players that won't move the needle and whose contracts expire before the team improves anyway. Only then will a Sabres GM be worthy of praise.

Botts needs to put players on this team who want to compete. He also needs a coach the players fear and respect at the same time.

For the record, I agree with everything you said, but that doesn’t mean he was bad at building a team or his plan was bad.

Why someone they fear? How about someone who can adapt his scheme and actually try somethings that work? f***, it isn't like they need a hardass to make improvements, they need to buy into a working system -- and they know Phil's system is shit.

I wasn't a fan of what he was doing candidly but what is telling is that Botterill is about a 180 from Murray so the Pegulas had a total change of opinion within 4 years.

Lafontaine picked Murray and now people are saying Kim ousted Lafontaine and Murray? Where did people get the Pegula/Lafontaine thing? I missed that one.

The Pegula/Lafontaine thing has been hinted at by members of the press for some time.

I said in the GDT the evil part of me wants Therrien (Not really) just to scare the crap outof these guys. Then after he has beaten them up for a season get someone else and use him returning as a threat.

So basically the worst run this franchise has had without having its hands tied behind its back or doing it on purpose.

Happy 50th everyone!

“They want a coaching change?!”

Fire him.

Housley is gone. Only question is he the only one?

How about someone who knows who the good players on his team are who play the f***ING POSITION HE WENT TO THE HALL OF FAME FOR PLAYING?

Is...is that too much? Am I asking for something impossible here?

yeah they are truly depressed at this point. Gotta feel for them. Next season here we come, let's just hope no one gets hurt too bad in these last few games
Yea, I feel so bad for them. Giving half assed efforts in most of the games while they play out the string until they are golfing and vacationing on exotic beaches, thinking of how to spend their millions. Must be terrible.

I mean, I understand the urge to want to see them collectively punished, but from where I sit, it seems like having to try to execute Phil's system for two seasons has been punishment enough.

A little OT but what was the general consensus? I completely missed it.

Pat said something that didn't sit well with Terry/Kim was the rumbling, so he was allowed to resign just like a bunch of other executives in their enterprises have.

Oh yeah I get it...blame Botterill for Berglund which was a crazy scenario nobody could predict, even though his contract would have ended before Okposo anyway. Don't blame Murray for Okposo, which was a bad deal regardless of whether he had a serious illness.

And he, and now you, missed the actual point. All Botterill's bad contracts were meant to be temporary and end before any of Murray's. No argument, can't counter that, no point in debating.

I didn't miss the point, if you would have paid attention to the sarcasm emoji sitting in the middle of the whole post, though I suppose it should be at the end of the sentence.

Berglund was also a bad deal regardless of him quitting on the team.

Again, collecting multiple bad short term deals is bad, especially since Botts hasn't collected anything resembling quality assets for those terrible short term deals.

If they happen to generally expire before ONE bad deal, which is mostly bad early because of injury/concussion/whatever, does not make the whole better.

It's also an incredibly stupid plan of action, who gives a shit when the other GM's longest deal ends? None of them were keeping Botts from making moves to compete.

The repeated point is Botts Bad. This does not mean Murray Good. All it means is the Sabres still suck.
