I think he's being patient with a bad hockey team. To me that's tanking.

So because he’s being patient with the team, it’s an excuse of why he shouldn’t be active in trying to bring in role players who necessarily don’t bring the offensive skill but bring the team drastically need? Right now, in our pipeline, we have Pekar that brings a sandpaper type of game.

There are ways to improve the team outside impacting the scoresheet. Botterill’s inability to look or find these type of players is infuriating and should’ve been happening no matter his timeline.

He has a vision, it's just not accomplished in less than 2 years like some of you hope.
Hmmm... It would be nice to see some progress towards that vison rather than getting fleeced in trades and putting the fans through historic 2nd half collapses no? If the team had been decent since December and were able to stay in contention for the playoffs into the 2nd half of March it would be one thing.

This team since the end of November has the worst record in the league. Since Botterill talked about progress in that weird interview they have the worst record in the league. In their last 14 they are 1-11-2. Soon to be 1-12-2 in the last 15. We went from 1st in the league after the first 3rd of the season to yet again, finishing bottom 5. Please tell me about his great vision and plan to turn this around lmfao.

Acquire draft picks that were shipped off before him (multiple 1st round picks)
Develop prospects in a winning environment (Rochester)
Fix horrible cap situations and bad contracts (After this year we are close to being done with a lot of the poor Murray FA signing's minus Okposo)
Fix the locker room/culture of the organization (Still a ways to go in that regard)
Acquire young players who fit the future (Skinner/Montour/Dahlin/Mittelstadt/Thompson)

I imagine 2-3 of Rochester's best players will be up next year in addition to 1-2 UFAs and a core trade this summer.

I would think a new coach will be coaching the team in the Fall.

Next year they should be a playoff team and if they're not competing up there then I think more people will begin to turn on Botterill.

A lot? The only Murray acquisitions that are/were killing cap space are Okposo, Moulson and Bogo. The rest are Botterill acquisitions.

This is quite the spin on a disastrous season.

Coach decision will prove a lot to me about Botterill and the Pegulas. There should be 3-4 solid proven coach choices available. Get 1.

And all of Botterill's bad contracts will up at the same time or before Murray's, even though he came in afterward.

That's a tenuous statement that barely holds only because one of Botts "prize" :sarcasm: acquisitions actually quit on the team. You know, one of those leadership dudes that would help fix the culture.

Botts has decided to wait out "bad" contracts, while collecting multiple shorter term bad contracts, that's hardly a win, which is reflected clearly in the standings. Not to mention the ridiculous contingency on the Sheary/Hunwick deal where we couldn't dump off Hunwick for some reason.

I can agree on being skeptical of the Okposo deal from the start, blaming Murray because the dude almost died is questionable to say the least.

Thanks for setting this team back, Botts. It's exactly what was needed, and definitely the most efficient way to do business.

Oh yeah I get it...blame Botterill for Berglund which was a crazy scenario nobody could predict, even though his contract would have ended before Okposo anyway. Don't blame Murray for Okposo, which was a bad deal regardless of whether he had a serious illness.

You totally missed his point.

Botterill was saved by Berglund quitting. Otherwise that was another ugly contract.

Team was going backwards, he just sped up the process.

They were going backwards because of the coach which was openly admitted he didn’t want anything to do with the team was the biggest issue. A competent GM sees the team performed pretty well considering where they to start from and say I can build on top of this. I just need to refocus the room with a vet coach and surround these young talented players with solid secondary scoring.

Stop making excuses for Botts

Why blame? How do we fix the problem? Obvious 1st step is Housley. Remember 2 years ago the GM didn't want to fire the coach, he was fired. So who knows what might happen.

And he, and now you, missed the actual point. All Botterill's bad contracts were meant to be temporary and end before any of Murray's. No argument, can't counter that, no point in debating.

Except Berglund literally was going to end later...so your statement is not true

Someone help this guy

If Botts doesn't find a good coach kick him to the curb. I'm not enamored with his moves, but on balance I believe if resigned Skinner was roughly as much value in as RoR was value out.

If he can't find a decent coach I see no reason to keep him about.

Berglund's contract was going to end later than Okposo????

You said "All of Botterill's bad contracts were going to end before any of Murray's"

That is incorrect. If you said "Murray's worst contract will expire after Botterill's worst contract" you would have been correct.

I also wouldn't refer to Berglund's contract as "temporary", it was a 4 year deal that went past Dahlin's ELC.

Either way, Botts is a clown and I fail to see how people still support him. Botts took a last place team and thought the way to improve it was trading the 2nd best player.
