Confirmed with Link: Jason Arnott fails physical; Deal with NYR off

With so many games in the division I would bet that Asham and Rupp will be playing in most of the games this season barring any injuries. Halpern pk's. Arnott can not. At this point, Ferreiro looked like a good fit

price is insane... sounds like boyle is getting forced to the wing

I think Boyle could use his size better on the wing. he's played there before and well he played there 2nite and did pretty good.

Kreider likely goes down for more playing time and hopefully works his way back up. It gives him time to get his game rolling. Miller may be ready by the playoffs as well

Arnott is not a good 2way center anymore. He would easily be the Rangers worst defensive center. Put him on the wing so it lowers his responsibility.

Hey Tawnos......didn't you talk about the Rangers signing Arnott awhile ago? Good move for one shortened season....we need depth and having one more body just makes everything feel better. Besides a light under some of our centers is a good thing.

July 2 was the first time I mentioned him. :D http://hfboards.mandatory.com/showpost.php?p=51999313&postcount=239

23 goals against with him on the ice last year. I know his qualcomp was way down and he started 60% of his shifts in the offensive zone. But bad defensive centers are on the ice for more GA than that. What he might lack in skating to catch up with the play, he makes up for in smarts.

It's more depth, and he's a smart, veteran player. The money is unimportant, so there's no harm in this. Worth a shot.

was at the game tonight when I heard he signed. Can't believe how much they gave him. Not liking that contract. Is someone on the way out?

The money is completely irrelevant. It's a one year contract and we have plenty of cap space this season. I really like this signing and the prospect of Boyle to the wing.

I like this. The 3rd line should really be solid and he's not a bad vet to have around. Also with cup winning xp. only 1 yr contract. A Sather boy to boot (that's not necessarily a pro). He is also good on faceoffs which is a commodity we can always use more of. 50+% W/L last two seasons.

does anyone know what kind of condition Arnott is in? Has he been playing in Europe or anything?
He did not play anywhere during the lockout, but he's typically taken good care of himself physically.

That doesn't mean he'll be out there flying around the ice, though. His mobility is a shell of what it used to be.

I don't think he'll start playing for a week or so. Get some hard practices in and get used to skating with the team. I think he is an ideal player for a shortened season. Vet leader with playoff experience. I believe he was skating with a bunch of Dallas players during the lock out.

Probably could rotate him with Rupp depending on who the Rangers are playing. I think the Rangers are going to give Kreider another shot once he's 100%.

A lot also depends on how Ferriero plays the next few games as well.

Why are people continuously pushing this combination? These two do not work well together. Tortorella puts Stepan with Boyle and Pyatt, while, Callahan joins Hagelin and Ferriero, and Stepan plays his best game, and both lines look very strong. And yet, half the board is insistent that Stepan and Callahan need to play together, despite the evidence that continues to pile up that they shouldn't.

Good signing against teams we can get a hold of. Will not help against the rest.
This. Our problem is speedy, aggressive teams who always harrass the puck carrier, not big, physical teams. Why in the heck do we need yet another lumbering giant out there who can get caught flat footed?

We need to improve our transition game. Not cement it.

We need a better start to our games. The obligatory 1st shift penalty needs to end. Ultimate momentum killer. This system is not designed for come from behind wins against teams, especially better ones, it is instead built on getting a lead and then nurturing it to hold on to a tight win. I bet we could do ok with this cast in a run and gun kind of game - if we were allowed to play that way - at least with the first line. But Torts will never go there, no creativity or thinking outside the box is allowed, everything has to fit his system and his simple but exhausting play idea. Which might not be the optimal way with the high talent Ghidorah line. Or the PP. I think this is where this shows it weakness the most. Last year this all for one one for all grinding shotblocking system worked great, this year not so much. It is getting a good start to the games by pressuring the O zone and forechecking that has been highly lacking IMO. I truly think that letting the 1st line and The PP being allowed more freedom and creativity is essential to utilizing the skillset there and actually giving us the possibility to use Torts system. Safe is death??? Let the bottom 3 lines play Torts hockey still, but let the talent loose and take some more risks. If we get better starts in the games, we will also be much more successful by implementing the system Torts wants and preaches that also can give us success! And then it is easier to roll more lines spreading out playing time amongst the team, in the end eliminating fatigue as a factor. No???

Just go ask a Blues fan if what you said is true. They will disagree with you.

It is not immediately clear when Arnott, 38, will be evaluated by the Rangers' medical staff. Arnott reportedly underwent arthroscopic knee surgery this past summer after playing through both a knee and shoulder injury last season.

If he does pass the physical, the deal will be worth $1.6 million (pro-rated), with $1.2 million guaranteed, the source said.

Pro-rated cap hit. Arnott will get $1.2M. Haven't seen that before in the NHL. Someone found a loophole. :)

Torts said the Rangers lacked the players to push other players and the ability to play around with the line-up. He put Stepan on wing last night. Put Arnott in the middle with Richards and Boyle. Those 3 centers. Stepan on the wing.

1.7 is a bit high, but for one year, there isn't too much to complain about. I like Arnott on the 3rd line, especially since Miller isn't NHL ready yet. With Arnott on the 3rd line I wouldn't mind seeing any of the wingers on this team playing alongside him. I always had a problem seeing Callahan, Hagelin, Kreider or really anyone besides Pyatt playing with Boyle.

Thanks for typing out my thoughts verbatim. Especially the last sentence.
