Confirmed with Link: Jason Arnott fails physical; Deal with NYR off

NHL season was 99 days. 8 days are gone. Say Arnott takes his physical today and signs tomorrow. 89 days. 185/186 day is the usual NHL season. $1.6M cap hit. Pro-rated. $769,729. Arnott is getting $1.2M guaranteed.

Or even players still on the team. On the one hand, Ryan Callahan can get nominated for POTG for just stepping on the ice by some Ranger fans, while Michal Roszival could never get a fair shake even when he was playing well.

Fair enough. :laugh: Although, I think that you more rarely see positive reviews from fans of a guy's former team. Most of the people who liked the player have moved on, while people who didn't are far likelier to be vocal about it. Same thing happens with user reviews of products or restaurants.
 
Rangers stink on faceoffs and he can help...

Also i think Krieder will be fine. just slumping

Torts said the Rangers lacked the players to push other players and the ability to play around with the line-up. He put Stepan on wing last night. Put Arnott in the middle with Richards and Boyle. Those 3 centers. Stepan on the wing.

Here's where we suffer from the loss of Dubinsky and AA (not that I don't think that Nash was worth it). Those two guys, able to play center on any of our lines for stretches of time, and play on the wing, gave Torts incredible flexibility. We seem so much more slotted into our roles this year. Not sure about Stepan on the wing where he will need to play along the boards. We've been lucky with injuries thus far, other teams are really suffering; Arnott just gives us so much more depth especially since Miller, Thomas, and Jean are not ready, Newbury has proven he isn't an NHL player despite many opportunities, Hrivik is hurt, who knows about Mashinter. Just felt that when the Flyers signed Knuble, that eventually many of the vets still out there would be snapped up and glad we signed Arnott before someone else did, if for no other reason to give us options.
 
If the spot in the lineup is between Arnott and Rupp then that's fine. I'd rather have Arnott because he'll score once in awhile.

If it's between Arnott and Ferriero I'd rather have Ferriero's speed.

A young hungry player who in his one game has played pretty much textbook ranger hockey offers more than an over the hill, absurdly slow skater who hasn't even put on the sweater yet and wasn't signed by anybody until yesterday? Yeah. I'm comfortable saying that.

For those who skate/play, think how painful it is when your tongue getswedged between your ankle and boot. Or if you have anysort of pressurepoint on the ankle bone.

Can't imaginehow it feels skating in Bauer TotalOne, which is not the softestboot in theworld, with a chipped ankle bone.

The kid will be fine.

Yeah he's really over the hill scoring 17 goals last season. 6 PPG and 8 PPA. Our PP has struggled. His 34 points would've tied him for 8th on our team in scoring last year. His 6 PPG would've placed him 4th on the team. Ferriero is not going to be providing that for us as much as you guys like him because hes fast and energetic. Not saying he shouldn't play but please stop putting him on the 2nd and 3rd lines. He is a 4th line player.

While I don't know enough about the new kid, he did play well last night and I totally agree about the old slow overthe hill comment on Arnott. I thought the Rangers stopped that program after lockout 1.
 
Honestly, Arnott is another big body up front that's got experience, won a Cup, and is decent on the PP. I'd much rather Sather sign a guy like this now than drop a 2nd round pick at the deadline for a similar type player. With the injury bug clearly going around and affecting nearly every team, it doesn't hurt to have depth and have options. I think this bodes ill for Kreider (who, honestly, hasn't shown much in the AHL this year) and Bickel.

I don't dislike bringing him him. I think he could work well here. I don't think at his age he is with that much money, that's all. And the money isn't irrelevant if a better acquisition was available at the deadline with a larger cap hit.
 
I'm sure Torts will use him correctly.

What's good about arnott is that he's always around the net, can win face offs (53% at home last year), is another big body on an already big team and is skilled enough to work the PP (14 pp points last season) which might be the biggest asset.

The rangers have been starving for a big body in front on the pp and maybe his presence can help out both on and off the ice. Let Richards or him take the face off and you can cheat on every offensive zone draw because you have two centers on the ice with Richards at the point.

I would've preferred more speed in a depth signing like this but torts will figure out where everyone fits. In a short season having extra NHL ready depth is going to be key regardless of what the drawbacks are.

Type of guy that we could have used in all 3 playoff series las year when guys were playing banged up and we were dressing Dmen at FW . He's slow but no slower than Prospal who people are constantly clamping for . Arnott can play around the net , off the half wall and take face offs to boot .

The Rangers will probably have ~$7.5m to work with at the deadline. I don't foresee an issue.
 
I don't have a problem with this signing - as long as he doesn't become a Tortorella favorite and ends up playing 20 minutes a night while Torts rolls 2 lines in the 3rd period.
 
Some fans on the trade board have said he has had locker room issues in the past. I had not heard that before. If true, that is the last thing this group needs.
 
I don't think a veteran addition like Arnott, coming in on a one-year deal is going to destroy the chances of this team, because he might have issues in the locker room. What kind of issues should those be? The soap in the showers is not the right one?

His goalies having a 0.943 SV% while he was on the ice certainly helped some.
