Didn't love his performance in the Vegas series, he was way too slow to make adjustments and leaned WAY too hard on Graves and Nemeth.

We will see what this upcoming season brings. I think it's pretty much his final season to do something in the playoffs. Anything less than a Conference Finals appearance will likely end with his firing.

Not breaking Mac off the top line in the Vegas series even for a few shifts is a fireable offense. Was plain to see that Vegas would shut the top line down and that was all they had to do. Never did he test their ability to defend two lines by putting Rant and Lando with Jost - the line that carried the load the last few weeks of the season— and put Mac with other players to both open Mac up and maybe get them going, like Bura.

Of any adjustment that could have been made, that was the most Obvious one that could have solved many issues.

Clearly Bednar is a guy the team likes and the players like. But not being able to shake the team up was a major flaw.

Yeah I'd say Bednar's seat is hot for his performance and he needs to take the team to the next step or it will be time to move on.

Bednar did break up the top line though moving Landy off it. I don't think JT Compher or Tyson Jost as 1C instead of MacKinnon would have helped them. Most likely would have made them worse.

Remember Nate had two nice primary assists in game 6, to set up Toews and Rantanen with time and space to score the 1-0 and tying 2-2 goal.

But that left only one line still. Lando-Jost-Rant would have been a competent line by itself. Mac would have then made a second line that could drive the play and forced Vegas to cover either Mac or the “top” line.

We're in the minority here but I don't think he's good enough to win it all
Every summer I read how he should get one more chance to improve some things and to show how good he really is. And every year the team shows exactly the same problems in the playoffs and during long stretches in the regular season. Then it's summer again, we blame our failure on 3rd pairing dmen and bottom sixers and give Bednar one more chance to improve some things and to show how good he really is.
He is a poor leader and a good but extremely overrated coach.

What long stretches are you referring to there? Avs didn't lose 3 straight in the regular season a single time, and the only real periods they struggled came after the enforced two week breaks.

More often than not, when the Avs have had poor stretches during the regular season under Bednar, it was because the goaltending sucked. And that includes that disastrous first season. Even this season, the primary reason they didn't completely run away with things to start was mostly because Hunter Miska is an ECHL goalie and played like one. And they were by no means bad, they just weren't quite dominant yet.

Players wouldn't like playing for him so much if he was a poor leader and extremely overrated coach.

Bednar got the leadership core and entire team to buy into his system. Also got Landy and Kadri to tone down their physicality a lot.

A coach can't get his players to buy in that much if he's a poor leader.

Bednar's seat needs to be hot after this third straight second round exit. If the team has an extended tough period during the regular season or fails to make at least the SCF he should be as good as gone.

You mean like this?

Criticism is fair. No coach is perfect whether your name is Al Arbour or Scottie Bowman. I don't consider this something to be overly concerned about because this was a one time incident. Bednar having heated conversations with players almost never happens. Like, this is the one example. If it happened several times a season we could talk.

I mean, when we watch games and misplays by those 3rd pairing defensemen are literally the difference between whether we win a series or not...
And when the team doesn't have the center depth to put together more than one scoring line when they're missing their 2nd line center...

I'm not saying he's perfect or blameless - I mean it was his choice to play Nemeth and Graves - but he's not the one who assembled the roster either, and I'm not sure how much you can blame him when streaky players like Bura, Donskoi, and Nuke go cold at the wrong time.

LeBrun says Bednar and the Avs are currently having talks about an extension as he heads into the final year of his contract.

Is it too early to start this year’s #FireBednar movement? Need to get ahead of the inevitable post season second round fail

I like Bednar. He has gotten better as he learns how to coach in the NHL. I agree he should not be completely safe. I wish he could make in game adjustments better. I think he was out coached by Deboer twice but I still think he deserves a chance to see this through. I have to think there would be several other teams interested in him if he were to become available. Sometimes it’s on the team and the players too. Does anyone think Craig Berube is a good coach? And yet the Blues won under him. There was a time where I really wanted Gerard Gallant but now he is on the outside looking in. At least the players like Bednar and I don’t think they have tuned him out yet. I personally would like to see a change in assistant coaches before Bednar goes.
