Jared Bednar Discussion

With all this injuries, new and underachieving players this team need something that they dont have and thats time to regroup and heal. No one could change this over night and bringing new coach in the middle of season would only push them further down not up. Lets hope this upcoming break will help a bit.

Gallant could be an option. He has a short shelf life, but he gets the most out of his teams during that time.
Off the top of my head:

Quenneville
Gallant
Woodcroft
Boudreau (?)

Yep, and I knew you'd severely understate precisely why I'm against his hiring.
He'd legit be the best hire by a country mile though. Like for on-ice results.

Yes, yes I know he's an elite coach, and the best candidate to break Scotty Bowman's win record, which could possibly put him in line for consideration as the best coach ever. Doesn't matter.

I think Boudreau would be a decent hire, at least when he gets pissed off at his charges, he makes no effort to hide it.

Gallant would be purely quick-fix. I wouldn't trust him at all. Literally everywhere he's gone, he's gotten into it with management.

I don't even want to consider Woodcroft, though I would think he'd bring Josh's old man with him.

If you take a look at the list of Avs players who have played significant stints with both the Avs and other teams over the last few years, most of them have their best performance under Bednar.

Overachievers:
Kadri
Burakovsky
Lehkonen
Drouin
Compher
Graves
JMFJ
EJ
Byram
Manson

At Par Achievers:
Newhook
Mitts
Erod
Wood
Colton

Underachievers:
Johansen
Tatar

Jury is out on Necas, Drury, and Rantanen, but I think we’ll see the same trend.

Honestly, who should Bednar really have gotten more out of over the last few years?

f*** Boudreau, f*** Gallant, f*** Woodcroft.

I can't seriously belive some people are suggesting Gallant and Woodcroft. Boudreau I get, because he's a nice guy. Shitty coach, but a nice guy. Exactly what we need, right?

I don't like the prospect of hiring Quenneville for obvious reasons, but if you fire Bednar you better replace him with a good coach. None of the above are good coaches.

Well it's too late for Mclellan.

So until last night, I was on the fence about Bednar.

After that loss, I think a change has to be made. Sure, Girard made a stupid ass play that led to a face off in our own end. It was bad, really bad but C-Mac just went out and got you a guy that's almost 60% on face offs and you throw out Mitts out there to take the faceoff?

Unacceptable. It wasn't icing...it was his choice. I don't even care if Drury had just gotten off or not. Stop thinking faceoffs don't matter, you tool!!!

So all day I've been thinking about this. I started thinking about how he always overplays his top guys - some might say out of necessity - but I don't think it's just that. I think he overplays his top guys as much as he does because that's the only advantage he can exploit against other teams.

Put it this way, when is the last time that anyone could suggest that he outcoached...'anyone'? I really can't think of one situation where I thought, he did such a great job coaching.

Conversely, I absolutely remember coach Q leading the Avs to the playoffs 2 out 3 years here with teams that didn't have playoff rosters. The other year, they barely missed. Now that's a f***ing coach!

So then we keep losing series : against the kraken which was 100% winnable, against pete deboer (vgk/dal) who isn't some sort of genius but knows how to counter your system and you apparently have no answer to that.

When you really think about it, the only time you won was when your GM assembled almost an all-star team AND you didn't have to face deboer ?

I don't know if they'll make a change this year but we need some new ideas. I'm not seeing much in terms of anything changing on a nightly basis. Seems like if we win 'we played hard enough and had good execution' and if we lost it's because we didn't.

If Q isn't available/being shun or whatever, then I want David Carle. That guy is a winner.

In other words, Bednar is still coaching the team well. Colorado has actually increased their goal output this month, despite one stinkin' power play tally.

But context matters. In last night's snoozefest, a functional power play could've changed the game. Instead, it cost them the game, thanks to the shortie allowed.
Does anybody have an update on these stats? Curious what they look like a month and some change later.

Improvements in green, reductions in red. Yes, somehow the Power Play being at 30th was an improvement.
