King Ryan....love your area of the country. Awesome summers. My parents just moved to Vernon this past summer. Lots of hockey during the winter in that area.....with the Rockets and the Vipers.

Too many uncalled penalties on Canada. Wrestling, clutching grabbing. Really should be 5 on 3 now but the ref turned the blind eye on it.

Just as many uncalled penalties for Russia. You might be the one turning a blind eye as well my friend.

Pogge is looking pretty freaking hot, that tipped/deflected shot snag was absolutely phenominal.

Canada, at the end of the 1st period, looked like they were starting to take over the game. It looks like Canada's physicality and tenacity is starting to wear Russia down.

The key will be keeping it up for a full 60 minutes. They have got tp keep the foot on the pedal for the last 2 periods, because as we all know, Canada has had a lot of trouble in the past few years when entering the mid-to-late stages of a game with a lead.

you guys better stop this

Was that a menace? Why do you react this way? It is true that Malkin has been quite bad on defense in this game. He was -3 last year against Canada and he is -2 after one period now.

Not saying that he won't be an awesome NHLer, but you have to admit that he is not very good as in this game thusfar.

Kudos to Marc Staal for handling him well, there's at least one play that stood out where he just put Malkin in the board and cleared the puck.

That period was absolutely electric. It's great that the fans in Vancouver are finally pumped up.
Yeah, Whats up with that?!!?

So much for Malkin dominating us.

Shut up. Shut up. Shut up.

It's 1 period of hockey. Yeah, he didn't dominate. But the game is FAR from over. We likely haven't seen the best of Malkin yet.

Great period for Canada though. Bar none, even strength this team is the best team in the tournament. Now just stay the **** out of the box. :D

Well that was a pretty damn good first period by my standards

No doubt. I don't think I'll be switching over to the Canucks game when it starts...

BTW, the shot total is misleading. The Canadians had a lot of good scoring chances where the missed the net. It's been pretty even in terms of offensive pressure IMO.

I wouldn't exactly call it a "Great" period ... we were still outshot by a ton right until the end... Weak defensive plays at the end and, I feel the goals were kind of shaky on Khudobin's part...

Well if Canada can keep the puck out of the net, that's all that counts from now on.

GO CANADA!!

you guys are awesome ! Here we go !

Classy !

Malkin is the one who went on last night about how much more skilled the Russians are. Maybe he should check his ego at the door and just play some (defensive) hockey.

I think Russia will come back strong in the 2nd. They're starting off on the man advantage and the shot count says that Russia is getting the opportunities to score, they just need to finish.

I have GOT TO stop leaving the room though. Every time I leave the room for like 30 seconds Canada scores.

Russia fans, I promise I wont leave the TV again, I'm sorry for causing the 2 goals against us :(

One penalty you got was questionable but the russians are doing far more hooking and holding

I will be flipping back and forth with the Juniors having my main attention.... Unless The Canucks score early and often LOL. (doubtfull)

you will be happy to know Comeau has a goal and an assist and it's 2-0 Canada

Freakin' sweet!

Like I said, I'm remaining neutral this time around. I rooted like hell for Canada last year, though. lol

Hockey doesn't get alot better than that first period. Russia is clearly the better team, but Canada just works harder

Where do you get that? Even strength, Canada clearly looks better. Russia is clearly the more skilled team. Better team? The jury is still out on that one.

great 1st period, really a treat watching this go

Leafs fans have to be really happy with both Rask and Pogge in their system

I still can't believe Latendresse doesn't have more ice time, he had a good shift and he's still benched while other guys like Bolland are doing nothing ... anyway, can't be negative with this 1st period
