Traded Jakob Chychrun (D)

Chabot is playing well and has been for a while now. Chychrun is still as maddening, confounding, perplexing as ever. His reads are an absolute disaster and almost cost us the game last night with an all-timer stupid play from behind his net. Maybe he is playing hurt, or maybe he is sulking. If you pressure him , even a tiny bit, he crumbles.

Either way, get a 1st and a top RD prospect for him. He is not going to be worth what the market says, and his contract will make Chabot’s look like bargain.

It was a good story, but time to move on

Yes, I don't see this move entering the long list of Dorion's blunders, unless we get a really bad return? It shouldn't happen (well if we don't wait too long)

Should be dealt for a futures package asap.

Use those at the draft to find a piece they need.

Need to continue purging Dorion's mess. Not that Chychrun can't be a good player, he has been in the majority of his career but he never was what this team really needs. They need another Zub/DeMelo, not Chychrun

Get futures now before his value plummets in the summer

In a lifetime of watching hockey, I don't think I've ever seen a guy with only one hand on his stick so much.

Goalies :sarcasm:

After going back and forth on either 6 being dealt or 72, I just see more talent with Chabot. I feel that chychrun is going to want Chabot money and I think we will be massively disappointed with him for that kind of money. He is destined to be Ottawas whipping boy for 8million or more. I say move him now

Some of his passes are truly perplexing. Like i don’t see what he is seeing at all. Mix it with his super lackadaisical play defensively and it turns into what we are seeing now. Not a guy i’d pay top pair money for.

Saw something on twitter that said he leads the league in turnovers, it matches with the eye test.

Guy just can’t play with the puck in his own zone. It’s a grenade every time.

If he upped his physical play and had a partner who could play a pass no reason he couldn’t be better. Looks better with brannstrom than he does with hamonic that’s for sure

I remember when he was the hottest topic on these boards, fan bases were endlessly pitching trade proposals knowing that he was going to get moved. We played Arizona and he was a beast. When we landed him out of the blue it seemed too good to be true. In his first few games with us he lived up to expectations.

Overtime some warts have shown but I guess I’m in the minority when I think he is still an effective top 4D? We’ve seen what he can be. And he loves Ottawa and wants to stay. I really wish positional needs aligned, that is the controversy in my mind.

There's no question Chabot has looked a lot better than Chychrun since the coaching change, and there's really only room for one of them going forward since neither has looked comfortable at RD.

If Chychrun is the guy we're moving, it should be done at the deadline this year and we should strongly consider retaining 50% of his contract to maximize his value and try to get as much back as we gave up.

With the consistently yearly rising cap , feel like they'll be able to afford Chych no issues
At one point or another that contract would come back to bite us. Sure the cap is consistently rising but that’s going to affect us when we’re looking to re-sign our UFAs. Joseph expires in two years, Zub and Batherson in three, Brady and Chabot in four, etc.

He’s also not all that good on the right side (or on the left as far as I’m concerned), and we have enough offence coming from Sanderson and Chabot. Just because you theoretically can spend the money, it doesn’t mean it wouldn’t be better spent elsewhere. We need a top four defensive RD more than we need Chychrun imo.

This. But any acquiring team won't have the ability to talk extension so it might reduce the return.

We need to move Chychrun for either a RHD, or the assets that help us acquire that RHD. There is simply no way we can afford to pay top shelf money to three left shot defencemen - that makes zero sense. Right from the beginning this trade was Dorion chasing a name again instead of constructing a roster that fit together. He did it with Debrincat, with Chychrun, Tarasenko and early in his time he did it with Duchene. Chychrun is a great athlete - he has a tantalizing toolbox and a big shot, but doesn't have much hockey sense and is prone to bad turnovers. By all means hold out for the right offer, but I think we need to move him at the deadline, and if not there then at the draft...

Chabot outplaying Chychrun for a dozen games has been this for a lot of Sens fans...

Its very evident they prefer Chabot. So they gotta trade Chychrun in the next two weeks before TDL. It would be very poor asset management to not do it, just like they should have traded Debrincat last year.

Once Hanifin moves whoever lost out on him will likely be targeting Chychrun. Really need Conroy to get on with it here haha.
