G.T.A.
Tkachuk Stutzle Giroux
Batherson Norris Tarasenko
Kubalik Pinto/Grieg Joseph
Kelly Chartier Kastelic

Chabot Chychrun
Sanderson Zub
Branstrom JBD
Hamonic

Korpisalo
Forsberg

This is the roster that Dorion built and I still maintain it's a good looking roster (on paper) with promise for the future.

We know now that the team defense (forwards and defensemen) and goaltending isn't good enough. But back in August, I think a lot of us had this roster in the playoffs.

I don't fault Dorion for the Debrincat and Chychrun moves. At a certain point, you have to break out of rebuild mode and make the jump. With hindsight, it's clear we should've targeted a natural RHD. Who's to say Dorion didn't and couldn't land one? Maybe Chychrun was the consolation prize. Regardless, Chychrun was a massive get and at the time, it was the envy of every other fanbase.

I do fault Dorion for handing out massive contracts to players like Chabot and Norris before they had really proved themselves. I think he may have jumped the gun with Sanderson as well.

They’ll play better when it doesn’t matter
Game have not mattered for a while now.

This core is on the verge of busting with how bad we are.

The hope is that the turn around next season is quick. Quick turn arounds in pro sports are not that rare and we have some stud young players who should be able to stop sucking.

Ottawa
I think success comes from the top. It starts with the owner - they have to put the people and systems in place to foster success. Part of this is investment, and part of this is finding the right people. In Ottawa's case he put a weak and unintelligent man in charge of hockey ops, and then exacerbated that misfire by starving the team of resources. This hasn't been an environment conducive to success since Murray's departure, and even then Murray was fighting an enormous uphill battle against ownership just to prevent the gong show we've seen for the last 7 years.

Thankfully, all of that will soon be a distant memory.
How long will you guys continue to use Melnyk/Dorion/DJ as an excuse for underperformance? Melnyk's been dead for almost 2 years now. Dorion was fired November 1st. DJ was fired December 18th. And yet the team is worse than it's been at almost any point in the last 5 years. Think about that sentence and how absolute dogshit some of those rosters were, completely devoid of talent and full of misfits playing their last stretches in the league. This team over the last month has been worse than any of them.

Start blaming the players, the guys you're talking about are long gone. How about this...without looking it up, how many game-winning goals do you think Brady has this year? How does that compare to how many he had last year?

Melnyk and Dorion's decisions have long term impacts.

The core is locked up, Staios does not have a lot of room to maneuvre right now but we get a bunch of cap space back this summer.

I'd say that starting at the 2024 draft, it is all on Staios & Co. all while having to ackowledge that they inherited a disaster.

Also called Andlauer being the owner a month before it happened while 2 other big names were still in it.

He also broke multiple signings, Gotta give the guy his flowers.
Half the time he posts after the fact, like the Chychurn one, Seravalli was a week earlier.

A lot of people were in on Andlauer, as he was already a part owner, and was the only one not bringing in celebrities.

My money was on Andlauer winning lol.

Hate to inform you, doesn’t matter now.

Teams aren’t going to be trading blue chip prospects or solid NHLers.

Remember when we wouldn’t give up…Kleven for him. That’s going to happen to us.

Generally I agree but I think it's worth remembering that Chychrun's health was a concern for many teams prior to the trade to Ottawa. I think that most of the concerns regarding Chychrun related to personality, health and productivity prior to the trade to Ottawa seem to have been addressed.

Shut up!

Don't listen to him. He's great! The best! He wants to play out west too. You should get him before another team does.

Lol! I totally get that, but the honesty of xVolchenkov is appreciated.

The great Chychrun debate is happening on HF oil (again). Such a perplexing player, enticing tools, athleticism, and a bomb shot, but questionable defensive reliability is my read of it.

Twitter analytics sees him much more positively though. I think no matter what there will be a sizeable market for him.

I'm not absolving the payers of blame - they haven't been good enough. They might not be good enough. I just see that as a failing of the people who ran the organization up until 3 months ago. Like I said in my original post in this thread, it's going to take a long time to fix this mess. This roster seems to have a lot of individual talent, but the pieces don't really fit well together and a lot of the core has now developed really bad habits after years of playing for a dysfunctional organization. Like, things might be "rebuild the rebuild" bad. Staois has a ton of work cut out for him if he's going to turn this core into a cup contender.

Looks like Chychy is still interested in staying with Ottawa.
