I love it. When Boston plays hardball - aka the deal isn't done until the call is made - it's deemed brilliant. When Arizona does it, suddenly it's "pathetic."
Difference is that Boston pivoted to what they deemed a better deal.
We're still waiting to see what Bill pulls in with his net.

I think Ba fumbled the bag here. Chychrun is/was the best dman on the market, not to mention his contract, but BA may have already had his best offer. Frustrating as a coyotes fan for sure

Well if he's not traded by Friday, any acquiring team would only get him for a guaranteed 2 playoff runs.
And last draft, we saw what a 24 year old with 2 seasons left went for when Alex Debrincat was moved.

A 1st (7OA), 2nd and 3rd.

Except Debrincat had a better track record. Two 41 goal seasons and paced for 50 during the COVID shortened year.

Chychrun hasn't been near as good and has durability concerns. So what does he go for at the draft? Probably less than Debrincat.

That is a high first. He might end up getting a low first and 2 2nds still.

That sounds about right. A mid-range 1st (15-25) + 2nd. Maybe another 3rd or 4th in there. Or a B- prospect.

But seems to me that that's less than they could have gotten last year when a team could've had him for 4 playoff runs.

Seems like a miscalculation.

And are non-destination teams like Columbus even going to be interested with only 2 years left? Chychrun has waited this long in Arizona. My bet is if he doesn't go where he wants he'll be perfectly happy waiting another 2 seasons and walking straight to UFA. So if you're one of those teams, you're really only getting him for 1.5 seasons...

Boston got the asset they wanted at the price they wanted, Arizona has so far failed to get the price they wanted and there’s more D than buyers left.

It's gonna be
Pickering, 1st, 2nd from Pittsburgh

Hextall is waiting out all the others till he's the only one left with an offer.
Coyote fans would be happy with that.

Morrow, 1st, 2nd from Carolina is another package that I'd be really happy with.

Slavin - Burns and Skjei - Pesce are firmly entrenched. Chychrun’s a 3rd pairing guy with PP time in Carolina. While there are mid-term considerations with age and contract expirations, a premium return gets hard to justify based on role. Trocheck interest makes more sense to me; they’re in there just in case Arizona finds value somewhere in their prospect depth.

Trocheck?

and likely something the league, nhlpa and owners look at for some new rules regarding the whole, sitting for trade
... you know what, fine. I'll play along. Let's pretend this summer, the NHLPA gets the league to agree that players cannot be held out of the lineup for "possible trade considerations."

They'll instead be held out "at the coach's discretion" and there won't be a thing the NHLPA or NHL can do about it. "Problem solved" though, right?

I think Armstrong knows that Columbus will probably offer a real nice package this summer for Chychrun.

Makes little sense for them to do it now and risk missing out on an elite talent by making a big acquisition, but it's been confirmed that are very very interested in him.

So there might not a big need for him to deal Chychrun by this deadline, even if Chychrun would obviously be very disappointed by that.
