Please keep the Penguins out of this. Which it seems like they are.

Chychrun isn’t the savior some around here seem to think he is. This will be an overpay by some team.

If the Canes pick Chychrun up, it will not be as a "savior" but rather because he is the best player available and the only true needle mover available.

I’d do 2023 1st and Pickering for Chychrun. I’d do a 2024 second if it meant the deal. I’d ask for a 2023 4th and 2024 4th. Might have to give Archibald or another expiring contract to fit him.

Pretty sure that'd be enough. Then you have a 24 year old D-man who might become your #1 relatively quickly (depending how Letang's game ages), and also Chych's current deal expires the same year as Crosby's so you can decide whether you want to extend him then or go full rebuild. In the meantime he undoubtedly helps the current core remain at least playoff relevant thru 2025.

Seems to me this would be a no-brainer for both sides but what do I know

They are both used as PP specialists in the same spot. Chychrun gets more time & AZ is feeding him on the PP while Kaliyev is on the second PP & not fed.

Chychrun is at 21 assists. I've watched Muzzin rack up 30 assist seasons from playing on the PP & chipping the puck to the top line players. Unmoved by your assist total argument.

Chychrun would fill the same location on the PP as Kaliyev if traded for. Kaliyev at 122 games into his NHL career is preforming about equally, arguably better on the PP & costs around 1M.

If Chychrun isn't a major upgrade on the PP why would the King's be interested in his offense & willing to pay for it when they could just add a shutdown D in free agency this summer?
You're comparing a winger to a D-man lmao. Chych is far more than a PP specialist and is def a better hockey player than Kaliyev will ever be.

I would love Brandt but a return of
23 1st, Kaliyev, Grans, and Walker sounds really good to me.
I’d do it.

I think a 1st, Kaliyev, Durzi, and Walker would get it done, and the Kings should do that. They would have 3 runs with Chychrun. The Avs are still great, but until they figure out the #2 C spot, they aren't last year's Avs. Vegas is good but aging fast. Dallas is a pretty good team, but not a juggernaut. The Kings could do some things over the next few years.

‘23 1st, ‘24 2nd and Pickering would work for me. And an expiring contract would be fine for me, too.

AZ meanwhile wants to dump 5M of Chychrun salary without taking anything back. How much did we decide moving out 4.6M over 2more seasons was going to cost?

Here's a fun fact, Cal is owed 11M in real money over the next 2 years. We all know what AZ fans have asked to move that contract in this thread. Chychrun is owed 12.4M over that same time. AZ is literally asking 2X 1st & to move out a bigger contract than Cal's for free.

Player A—Chychrun is outperforming his contract. The teams interested in acquiring him don’t care if his average salary remaining exceeds his AAV. They’re happy to spend more dollars on the lower cap hit.

Player B—Petersen is vastly underperforming on his contract—buried in the AHL—with $11m in salary the next two seasons

It’s a bad comparison.

Buffalo won't pay what the reported adk was......2023 1st, one of Savoie/Kulich, LD Samuelsson. Those 2 prospects and that defenseman won't be moved is my suspicion, and if I'm Adam's, rightfully so. Given the way the Sabres growth is surging, no reason to.

Neither do I. But the ask reported by reputable media with verifiable sources, is that Arizona is looking for the equivalent of two 1sts and a 2nd. Buffalo could do that rather easily, I think.
Buf 23 1st
One of Kulich/Ostlund
A signed Ryan Johnson (who steps in and takes Chych's place in the lineup next year).

For Chychrun. Augment slightly how you see fit, but that should be the heart of it.

You guys know I'm a fan of both our teams. I'm invested in both sides of the equation. I dream of seeing us play each other in the Cup Final year after year. I want to see this deal because Chych makes the Sabres blue line absolutely filthy for the next several years and beyond (we could totally re-up him) and because I'm sick of people saying the ask for Chych is outrageous after seeing what players are going for the last few days and change. There is 100 percent a deal to be made here to help both our teams get better.

Johnson doesn’t have to be signed for me to accept that deal. His compensatory pick is a ‘24 2nd.

Buffalo wont give up Kulich for Chychrun. Not worth it.

More like 1st, 2 2nds and 1 or 2 B Prospects.

Buffalo will probably be the best offer because their 1sts and 2nds will be better than a team like Carolina.

Part of the problem with the Kings I think is they already traded their ‘22 1st, so are TL likely to trade ‘23, and unlike the Penguins, I can’t bank on their ‘25 and ‘26 1sts being early. So it doesn’t make sense to delay.

Okay, so maybe a good prospect? Well Byfield and Clarke are off the table. Untouchable. I guess Vilardi probably is, too.

Turcotte, Kupri, Durzi, Spence, Grans, Fagemo, etc - these are not 1st round equivalents. They just aren’t. Maybe Rob Blake thinks they are. Maybe that’s part of the problem.

It also seems he wants to dump Walker without giving up a decent asset. Which, I’ll be honest, makes sense to me. Walker isn’t that bad and he isn’t that overpaid. He’s not great and he should make less, but he’s not heavy negative value, I don’t think.

For me, no deal with LA makes sense if it doesn’t include Kaliyev. He’s playing on the 4th line and eating some scratches lately. He’s not as untouchable as Clarke or QB. But he’s definitely more appealing than Turcotte or Kupari. To me, he represents a real compromise for both sides.

Blake already said he's not moving the '23 pick because they moved last years 1st round pick already. It will be either '24 or '25. Byfield , Clarke and Valardi from what I understand are untouchable. Kaliyev maybe too but I'm not sure. Turcotte, Kupri, are former 1st round picks , and one guy they might want is Martin Chromiak. The guys a pure scorer and is going to be a real good pro. As for Walker, doesn't ARZ have to still make the floor? Subtracting 4.5 mil gets them below. Walker and another contract have to go back for any deal to work.

Pens fan here who would do 1st, Smith, mid-tier prospect and 24 2nd. Would probably do Pickering instead of Smith if push came to shove but the Pens have literally no prospects, so would prefer to keep him.

How can the league let this happen is beyond me.
So, not playing while a Coyote is bad, but not playing for the Coyotes if/when traded is good? Or is it all about Bedard, a non-NHLer? Complaining about it when you're not a fan of the Coyotes and doesn't affect you one bit makes it WHAT? The Coyotes sat Kassian, why no complaints then?

If the Draft and Bedard wasn't a factor then this thread would be 1/10 the length. It would eliminate all the salty Montreal fans who could care less about Arizona, their fans, Chychrun, the NHLPA, etc.

They want Bedard and they feel like this threatens their chances.

Sorry to break it to those fans - healthy scratches happen every night. The NHL will never care. There is not some star meter that requires a team to play somebody if they rank high enough. Really, really wanting Bedard doesn't change that.

This Pens fan disagrees. Our defense has been one big sloppy mess for years now, and not even a complete restructuring last summer seemed to help much.

Chychrun brings everything the Penguins need: He is a strong, top-2 LD who can play anywhere in our top-4 (so different options to try out with Letang, Petry, Petts) and can add production where Letang has fallen short this year. The only question mark next to his name is his injury history but I'm more than willing to give him a shot for his cap hit (Pens will have trouble finding a better deal elsewhere than Jakob's 4.6mil locked in til '24/'25) and the fact he is a beast in the gym. He is one of the few players on the market I believe can be a needle-mover for the Pens and I think he can, to a certain degree, revive the rest of our d-men's game.

Perhaps most importantly, he's not a rental and his contract lines up pretty perfectly to the rest of Sid's. He gives us flexibility in the next 2 years to make other moves and to comfortably walk away from a guy like Dumo this year at UFA.

If you can get this guy for 1st+2nd+Pickering, this is a no-brainer for Pittsburgh.

No a healthy scratch for a trade usually last a few days. not two weeks. And it does not happen when it's one of your best players. It's not performance-driven.

Yeah, I'll believe it when I see it.

I think it's basically impossible to come back from healthy scratching Chychrun for "trade related reasons". I can't even fathom an acceptable scenario where the deadline passes and Chychrun is still on the Coyotes. That's going to be a completely toxic situation if the Coyotes refuse to trade him and then just throw him back on the ice.

It would be nonsensical for the Coyotes to turn down a package of 2 B prospects, a 1st and a 2nd to just hold onto Chychrun. Even taking out the impact of scratching a guy for a month because of "trade related reasons" only to not trade him, his value is going to decrease due to the less years of control he'll have.

The PA is going to be quite angry as well.

Not with proration, they didn’t.

Take it up with Friedman and LeBrun and Dreger and Co.

Two late 1sts and one late 2nd?

Late 1st is subjective. Bostons 1st this year looks like a "late 1st" but if they lose in the first round it will be a higher pick.

Its still a lot to give up for a guy thats had one outlier season + has injury concerns. I'm a fan of the player but the asking price is just a bit too steep.

They want swayman or debrusk from Boston. That’s why Boston gave up. U do t subtract key roster players when your teams the best.

The way Arizona has handled this situation is on the verge of circus level. Been literally over a year since theres been talk about trading him. And now he's been scratched for like 2 weeks straight? Arizona must be holding out for the moon, and once he finally gets dealt, I'm sure people will have the reaction of "that's it? All this just for that?"

I remember when Sakic was called a clown for Duchene trade-saga. It turned out to be alright
