Thats a valid point, lets hope Kleven can make the roster sooner rather than later to provide that physical edge, and hopefully Sanderson can develop that aspect as well once he fills out and settles in as our top Dman. Contrary to the perception, our dmen are not small at all, but they need to have the coaching that emphasize playing a more physical game. Chyckrun, Chabot and Zub are all 6'2 and around 200lb. Sandy is 6'3 195lb but still probably needs a couple more seasons to reach physical and strength maturity. Kleven is 6'4 205. They are all pretty big, but need to be taught to play big as well
I will agree to disagree with you.

Absolute nonsense.

But I don't think it will take long for Jake to change people's opinions.
Don't understand how Power had that many more Calder votes than Sanderson. Don't the advanced stats line up pretty favourably for Sanderson?

Ok…hear me out. The Ottawa Experiment.
Top 5 goalie in the league, the best D in the league and some very dangerous threats up front being fed by an elite attacking D with size.

Sandersons contract doesn’t kick in until after next year.
Chychrun the year after that.
EK is almost like a UFA
Then use the assets from AD to get Saros.

Also the salary cap is going to jump let’s say $4 million per year for a couple years after next.
So cap is about $92 million.
Can you win over the next 2-5 years with this lineup filled out. You’ve got $9 million left, and Grieg.

He had a great rookie season, but he’s going to have to find another offensive gear if he wants to get paid in the 8 mill range after next season.

By the time Sanderson is an $8M dman, it will be the equivalent of a $6.5M dman now.

Assen na yo!
That's equivalent to a $100M cap. Even with fairly substantial increases of $4M+ per year, it would still take at least 4 years after this upcoming season to reach a $100M upper limit and for Sanderson's $8M to be worth $6.5M. In your comparison, you're saying he's still 5 years away from being an 8% cap player. What's the reasoning behind that?

Increases in the cap aren't equally distributed. Top players receive a greater percentage of a cap increase than the players who are average or worse.

A $6.5M dman today is worth 8% of the cap. For him to be worth $8M down the road, the cap will have to be $100M. It's not a theoretical concept, it's just simple math. So why will it take that long for him to be worth $8M on a $100M cap?

Maybe you should try looking at math that's not simple. If the cap goes up by $10M per team, the players on contracts close to the league minimum won't be getting any of that. And there's a lot of those players in the league. That means there's more to spend on the better players.

Trotz said that they were looking to hold around Saros….. Could be classic GM double speak, but the price would be too big to acquire him.

Its not about finding another gear, Chabot is blocking his offensive potential. As long as he is getting second pairing minutes and points, its hard to justify paying top pairing money.

ideally they are both here playing great.. for the benefit of the team vs individual achievements

Is there a single thing Chabot does better than Sanderson?

Maybe his slapper? but it's not like Chabots is great and it is more likely that Sanderson improves his shot than Chabot improves his.

So yea I don't think there's any part of the game Chabot is better at.

Chabot is still better than Sanderson at producing pts, maybe that changes next yr & maybe it doesn't.

Chabot spent all year playing hurt and still got 11 goals.

Chabot was playing hurt all year? And DJ was still playing him the most out of anyone ? Wtf

And anyway cool, I'm sure when Sanderson gets the same pp time and ice time he will put up similar goal totals and destroy Chabots point totals while being much better defensively.

The thought of Sanderson improving every year is a bit crazy considering how good he is already

Chabot is def better on the rush.

Slapper, like you said.

Generally better in the O-zone.

Way better at solo effort goals.

no these things are because Chabot is in 6th year and has more confidence and clout to do these things while Sanderson was a 1st year rookie still gaining strength, speed and confidence for himself and from the coach.

you're confusing these factors with their ability level.

Chabot does not have greater ability in the o zone or any zone, and it will be clearer in the next 2 years, let alone when Sanderson is in his prime at 26.
