He's on a hot streak and playing up to his potential. it is great but lets see where he is 10 games from now.

His inconsistency is what drives me crazy and is going to be a detriment to us down the stretch and into the playoffs.

If he's on another slide come the trade deadline, I'd move him for whatever they can get.
I don’t necessarily WANT to feel this way but I sorta do

He needs to be resigned, his speed, ability to play both wings, defensive game, PK and goal scoring ability are invaluable to this team. He is also putting up his numbers without a lot of top PP time, get this guy resigned Sweeney.

I feel you. Consistency is paramount though! Lets see if Jake can bring it night in and nignt out, as if he has recently.

I'm just not sure what our expectations for a 40-50 point guy are....even if he NEVER had a multi point game (which would also be insane) he's at best chipping in a point in just over 50% of the games. That's just the nature of guys who are getting those point totals.

Then, the thing every person seems to want to to forget is Jake scores some BIG goals in the playoffs and usually steps his game up in the postseason. Was T-2nd for goals last postseason with Marchand, and two of the 2 of the 3 guys ahead are gone and had more points than Pasta. Why are we trading a guy like that? And if we are going to who are we getting back to replace that?

Doesn’t matter people just want to either way underpay him or want him gone. I can’t understand it for the life of me. It’s really hard to acquire someone at that level in todays NHL.

Who does 7x7 with a partial ntc

Might be what it takes
Sweeney should be fired if he offered that.

$20mil/4 year ($6 mil per) is the absolute maximum he should be offered. No protections on the contract. Take it or leave it.

You look at more than a 10 game body of work at a time?
Max he get is $6 mil and at that price he needs to be consistent from day 1.

Goal scorers are streaky. Again if he was consistent like this he’d be a 45 goal guy and make $9M.

Saying that it’s $6M max for 4 years with no trade protection is basically saying no thanks. It’s not the going rate/term/structure. I don’t get that at all.

He's not worth any kind of contract protection and his inconsistency over a number of seasons is enough to max his pay at $6 mil.

If he was putting 45 goals up a year, this thread would be on the 3rd page of the forum. He's not a 45 goal per year player and he'll never be.

He is worth that, and if you don’t give him that someone else will. But you’re not going to then acquire someone else who will be able to fill that role without those kind of terms, if you can even find a guy like that. And that leaves aside the huge cap jump coming.

He's not worth $9 mil per year hahaha. Don't let the door hit you on the way out then.

Not $9M that’s not what I’m saying. People are holding him to that he’s only worth 6x$6M+ if he plays like he has the last 10 games. Which is the rate of a $9M player.

You’re not resigning him for 4 years, you’re not resigning him without any trade protection. If you’re lucky you can get him at $6M.

He's not going to continue to score at the pace he is now. We've seen it over a number of seasons. Has a hot streak and then goes back to the freezer and then partially thaws in the playoffs. A desperate team will over pay him but the Bruins better not. We have enough cap space to bring in better players in free agency. I'll stop here before someone accuses me of bullying him since that's usually what happens.

What better players are coming up in free agency? Have you looked? Unless you think Reinhart or Stamkos are going to free up it’s not a pretty picture. And this is debate not bullying whatsoever.

Petterson, Guentzel, Henrique, Bertuzzi and others are UFA and Stamkos has no extension and it sounds like he's done in Tampa. The B's landing Savard and Chara have taught me never to count them out on July 1.

here's the list

Petterson is RFA. I’d trade the next four first round picks we have and give him $14M but it’s not happening. Henrique can’t hold Debrusks jock. Bertuzzi either. Guentzel is a good player but he’ll either resign or get traded where he will - that’s the game now. He’s not going to hit UFA. And how much do you think he gets? How much term? What trade protection?

Why does he have to be replaced 1 for 1? He's a mid-line winger with good all around game and streaky production. Im not paying $6+ for that. You can get JVRs every year. Use the money for C and D.

A top 6 winger with a good all around game and streaky but good production - what do you think that’s worth, especially one who can PK?
