Its about time Jake started producing on the scoresheet.

Its nice he has had a solid 6 game stretch but that doesn't erase the prior 20 where he put up 6 points and most nights looked like he wanted to be anywhere else.

For me at least he's got a ways to go to rewrite how I feel about the season he is having. Even with this hot streak where the puck luck is with him he is still on pace for the 2nd lowest /82 game point total of his career...in a contract year.

Kinda just feels like Jake is doing us a favor ie the value of his next contract

unless he wants to go make 6.5 million a year for the coyotes

Gotta start somewhere.

That said, I'm not disagreeing with you. I'm not rooting for him to fail though.

We are going to find out soon

$6 M sounds right

Congrats Jake
Only if he breaks 20 goals again this year, otherwise it should be less only because of his inconsistency.
Of course on the open market someone would be stupid enough to offer him 7.5 - 8.
Sweeney going to have a tough choice to make if come mid February Jake is sitting at 13 - 16 goals. Can not let him walk with no return, but also must not over pay for him to stay.

Jake’s close to 20 pace now

Zach Hyman never scored over 21 goals with Leafs or 41 points - he’s on 50 goals and 100 points pace

Put DeBrusk with McDavid he’s 40 and 100

This doesn't concern me until McDavid is playing for Boston. No sense paying him for hypothetical production on another team. This is silly talk.

I apologize for being silly - I saw the email HF was going in a more serious direction and refrain from hockey is my third sport childish tagline

&hfmods I’ll be better

I think that is more a testament to McDavid then it is to Hyman. And hypothetically, if DeBrusk were to ever play a season with McDavid as his center Jake dang well better have a career year.
For the record I want Jake to do well in Boston. I mentioned earlier in this thread it would not surprise me to see Jake score 15 - 20 more goals to finish out the season.
I just think it will be interesting to see what Sweeney will do and I think a lot will depend on how Jake performs especially the next month and a half.
As I said in my last post Sweeney can not let him walk for nothing, but he can't over pay to keep him. Maybe, they already have an understanding in place?
Have you heard anything?

4 goals in the last 5 games.

2 of them are empty netters.

Hes trending in the right direction.

Tale of 2 seasons so far for DeBrusk on the scoresheet

- his first 20 games, he played at a 12 goals / 32 points pace

- his next 23 games, he's been playing at a 25 goals / 50 points pace

let`s hope he continues the trend of the latter of those two tales
Or increases it to end at an actual 25/50 ideally for all parties.

I wouldn’t be mad at 6.5. I won’t be out here defending it, when the pitchforks are out, but I will be fine with it.

we also have a pretty good player they could pair him with, 3rd in the NHL in points actually, more than McDavid at the moment

Definitely a roller coaster offensively...but that really goes for anyone who's getting 40-50 points, they're going to be streaky. He's looked good away from the puck so at least he's bringing something when not scoring. At least if he keeps it up he's a trade piece if they don't like the number he's asking for.

Congrats Jake

I am hoping Sweeney will be spending the upcoming all tar break working on extensions

With how we've been on 5 on 6's up a goal, I'll take all the empty netters at face value!

Yup, and one of the 2 empty netters was an all time classic grit and effort play

I would be intrigued at Jake for 6M AAV (half a million higher than when I addressed this last time).

Despite how talented he is, and the great plays he makes, higher than that just seems very risky. We know this is a guy who can and does disappear at times, and if you're paying him big money, he's a staple on the top 6, like it or not.

Despite all the shit I give him, I would hardly feel great about seeing him leave this team. For as often as he is a frustrating player, there are those moments where he brings you out of your seat which are hard to overstate. I could watch his play on the fourth goal last night on loop for weeks and not get tired of it.

More money more *problems

*Fans problems with the streaky player.

Jake at $4mil per catches some flack. Jake at $6mil + --- oh boy will he ever LOL.

I love Jake and dont want to see him leave. But I cant say I dont start to cringe when we start talking about him as a player making more than $6mil per for an extended period of time.

agreed, if there is a positive in this seasons early slump it`s that I never felt Jake was doing drive/skate bye`s and effort was questionable, in years past it looked literally like he didn`t give a rats ass if he wasn`t scoring but man did this team need his production and he`s been red hot lately and also making significant contributions in his own end of the ice too

I`m still stunned at what this team has been able to do in light of the immense talent they lost up the middle, let alone others who moved on, toss in some very key injuries and it`s remarkable, speaks to the character in the room
