I could be wrong but I don't believe the Bruins will ever pay $10 million for a free agent. They'll give Charlie and David big bucks, but those guys have been and likely will remain career Boston Bruins.

Would you really pay Nylander that kind of money, as inflated as the free agent market is? Imho, not at all worth it. Plus, he's a Leaf through and through. That's not a compliment.

Everyone wants a center long-term, and they should.

How about a winger for the short term?

Pick up @ 14:53,

Idk, he’s 27 pacing for 41G 77A 118P. Rumored to be pals with Pastrnak. I’d say that’s worth the phone call come July 1st. Not sure what you mean by “he’s a leaf”. I see a kid with oodles of offensive talent, and the Bruins a team lacking it after 88. Marchand’s age soon to catchup to him.

Thanks I’ll give it a listen tonight.

I forgot about his friendship with David. Worth a call, I guess.

"He's a Leaf" means anyone with a bit of bite who goes there (Bertuzzi, Reeves) appears to lose it almost instantly.

Seriously, is there anyone you like? Was Bobby good enough?

I'm having fun, but you are a notoriously tough grader.

As for Bert, I thought he brought something to the Bruins. He's certainly had his injury and production issues.

TO was the worst place for him to sign. I'm sure he'll take the dough, but to paraphrase Morrison, no one there gets out alive.
He is a poor fit precisely because he has the same defensive weakness as the Leafs. He has very little redeeming value when the rubber meets the road.

The legend of bertuzzi’s bite is largely urban legend, IMO. He had moments in Detroit, less in Boston, even less in Toronto. Overall… Minor and inconsistent snarl from what I’ve seen.

I may be wrong but he never really struck me as a physical presence.

Not a major physical presence, no. But some.

Pick up @ 14:53,

Duclair & Tyler Johnson.. color me underwhelmed. Both putting up DeBrusk numbers whom we ride here daily. Johnson 5m cap hit. Duclair at 3m. He’s more of a 3rd liner imo. Was okay with Florida last season. You’d be banking on him rediscovering his game of 3-4 seasons ago. If SJ retains 50% what do you give up for Duclair?

I may be alone here but I’d look to plan for next season. Cap space. Summer UFA class can fill some long term needs here (Hanifin, Lindholm etc). Maybe a trade for Hertl. Poitras & Lohrei in year two should be improved. Perhaps a goaltender moved out for more cap space. I’d be shopping DeBrusk & Gryzleck at the trade deadline for picks. Reassess & load up in the summer.

I never thought of Bertuzzi as a physical presence. He had a Mark Recchi presence to me. Knew how to use his body to position himself to make plus plays. A slimy slippery net front presence who could bang home rebounds/ deflect pucks. He was good at it. 10 points in 7 playoff games vs a tough physical Florida team. Nothing to sneeze at.

I agree Johnson, and add Duclair, do nothing for me. I do not think you will get the value that everyone thinks you will get at this time for Debusk, I would consider him as a rental, that cost nothing to obtain. Just moving Gryz is a positive jut for cap room. I think unless something falls in their lap like Taylor Hall situation they should be cautious this year, that is why I have said from training camp do not go out and overspend for a 1C. I would like to see them get a defenseman, and a forward somehow. I think Lohrei and Poitras have played well, but I think the fans are going over the top with their views of them, if they are needed for the right deal use them. We now get to satisfy the fans lust for Merklov promotion, hope it works out, but do not want to see him and Poitras in the lineup at the same time. I would not give up on this season just yet, but Sweeney needs to be cautious. I know they were value pickups, but JVR, Heinen and especially Shattenkirk, just not doing for me and if anyway someone might have any interest and I doubt they should be moved.

For $1M.

And so casually moving two long term lineup fixtures who will be on ELCs the next two years is crazy. That’s the way you have to win in the NHL now - have to have young risers taking spots cheap.

I would like two bangers, on D & the wing. Who, I don't know as I'm no expert. The Bruins don't need Danton Heinen clones. They need a spine transplant.

Imho, Boston should hold on to both Poitras and Lohrei, nor do I mind both in the same lineup. Same for Georgi if he proves valuable.

As a fan I've occasionally lost sight of the fact that this is, and should be, a transitional season. Boston should take a golden opportunity to see what they have in the prospects mentioned above. John Beecher Is a Keeper. Acquistion of a legitimate 1C should wait until summer, as they don't have the assets or $$$ to land one now.

I would not trade Matt Gryzlick simply to trade him. He has value.

Yup. Look at what happened to us after the Boychuk trade right before the season in 2013 (?).... Completely gutted the team.

Boychuk was a better player but both are/were big locker room guys and guys who have been here for a long time. Not a good message to trade them for picks or anything else that's not an immediate upgrade, unless you wait until the summer to do so.

Say what you want about the Boychuk trade but it ended up being a homerun...used that 2015 2nd to grab Brandon Carlo. I admit, I despised the trade as did basically the whole fan base and the team itself but it set us up better for the future.

I actually think this is what separates Sweeney and Chiarelli.

Chiarelli wasn't afraid to make an emotional trade and outside of Sweeney's first year of trading Lucic and Hamilton, I don't think he has ever traded someone for a 1st or 2nd round pick....and it's been a while

Thats why I think moving Ullmark is important. I mean nobody in Boston wants to see him go but Swayman is the guy and you have to maximize his value when you have holes elsewhere.

But what about the goalie hugs...or Gryz's father...or JD being his first draft pick...its time for Sweeney to make bold trades like this to set us up better down the line. It's what a "transition" year is for.

I like Gryz, but come playoffs his value depreciates greatly, Gryzs value come in cap relief.

Since when is Grzelyck a "big locker room guy"?

In 2011 Chiarelli sent Wheeler & Stuart to Winnithrashers for Peverly & Valabik. That’s where I’m at with DeBrusk. Just not working here. Move him out for a Swiss Army knife type player.

Like some sort of guy who can score 4 pts in 2 games, play PP, score goals in many different ways, be the #1 PKing forward in the league, and have adult ADHD?

I may have a guy for you
