Players are telling the coach who to bench?? That's a stretch. I'm sure he gets their feedback but it's not their decision.

If McDavid feels like his coach is a significant reason they can't advance in the PO
you can't be so naive to think he couldn't go to the owner and have him canned.

It was beyond obvious Montgomery was a glorified cheerleader in the RS. If the injuries
hadn't happened to 37\46 it would have remained that way. Even once they were injured, he still slot them right back in at 1\2 C and Bergeron was totally compromised
physically.

I highly doubt any players were involved. This was a Monty and coaching staff decision.

Marchand no doubt is much more of a hard ass than Montgomery. Did Marchand have a closed door meeting with Jake and no Montgomery? Of course not, but my money is on Marchand laying the law down on DeBrusk harder than Montgomery.

I wouldn't be surprised if Marchand and Debrusk talked and brutal honesty was used. Brad's a straight shooter. Wonder if it will be covere on Behind the B.

I just hope it doesn't happen again and that this was a wake up call. Lets see how he handles things now that he's back in the line up.

Today’s Globe:

ANAHEIM, Calif. — Jake DeBrusk jumped back into the Bruins lineup Sunday night against the Ducks, a day after the right winger was benched against the Kings for being late to a team meeting.

DeBrusk owned up to the infraction and is focused on the future.

“I think obviously it was one of those things that we have a high standard on this team and we have a higher standard than people give us credit for and I broke a team rule and I understand that there’s consequences with that and I own up to it completely and I let the guys down,” DeBrusk said after helping the Bruins to a 3-1 win over the Ducks. “I wanted to join them in LA [Saturday] and having to watch really sucked and I felt it and I just wanted to do anything I could to help the team out today.”

DeBrusk, scoreless through three games, played with Matt Poitras and Morgan Geekie on the right side. DeBrusk had life in his legs and several good chances, including a breakaway. He also picked up an assist on Poitras’s second goal — the game-winner.

Montgomery said his message to DeBrusk regarding the one-game punishment was a simple one.

“Yesterday’s over with, we worry about today and he gets a chance here to come back and help us win hockey games,” said the coach.

Montgomery indicated DeBrusk dealt with the consequences of his actions “like a pro.”

“I was just kind of focused on tonight,” said DeBrusk. “Like I said earlier, I am proud to be Bruin and proud of the standards that we have here.”

Montgomery said the benching was not a warning to the team, in particular the younger players.

“No, there’s just a standard that we believe in here and when that standard isn’t met, there’s repercussions but yesterday’s over with again, it’s a new day and we’re moving forward,” said Montgomery.

No disrespect, but I don’t really think you understand what’s involved in coaching.

None taken, because there are more than enough examples in pro sports where its obvious that superstar talent calls the shots. Brady and his coach in TB is just one example.

In addition at even the High School and youth level I saw coaches who bent to parental pressure, never mind superstar level talents who carry the fortune of
an owners franchise. The old you can't fire 19 players maxim is a thing.

The “shots” you’re talking about account for .01% of what a Coach does.

Any coach would be foolish not to listen to his captains and star players and heed their input, but the plays they want to run don’t exist if the coach didn’t devise them, and train them up on how to execute them.

Whats the deal with Jake? A goalscorer in a contract year that has 1 goal in 13 games. Thats a pace between 6-7 goals. I know he is streaky but for me his play and his attitude at his age has to many red flags. His next contract will make him a core player moneywise and I doubt that his cap will start with anything less than 6 million and the term will probably around 6 years. I would be very hesitant to sign him to that. I would look for a trade as losing him for nothing would be a failure. A player I would target is Dube from Calgary or others that would benefit from a change of scenery. Florida did very well when they hoped that Bennett would breakout when they got him from Calgary.

Its still early enough he can turn it around. I think his play has improved a lot.

If he continues like this then he has no shot of making above $6m.

Simply can’t be a top 6 player averaging over 2 minutes of power play time and putting up his numbers.

Bruins can find a bottom 6 player for half the price to do what he does on the PK

I`ve been hard on Jake over the years, some of it arrogant stupidity on my part (my reaction to how he handled the bubble) and some of it earned as I saw him play with complete disinterest for stretches way too long for a guy with his skill and ability

I don`t have an issue with his overall hustle, I see a guy who is playing the right way for the most part but simply can`t get it going. I wish I had the answer but any way you cut it, in a contract year, if he doesn`t start popping goals, his deal, whomever it comes from, might not be so rich

This team as a whole is an offensive concern, still way too top heavy, need that contribution from those we come to expect it from and Jake is one of those players

I agree that he is hustling and playing the right way. He has actually made some really nice backchecks three games in a row. Other than not scoring goals I have no problem with the way he is playing on both ends of the ice. The number of prime scoring opportunities that were there last season haven't been there for him so far this season.

Seems like the last couple seasons Jake really came alive as the seasons progressed. Hopefully that'll be the case this season. His shooting pct last two seasons: 13.6 and 14.1. This season so far 3.4. Surely that'll go up fairly significantly over the course of the season. Just needs to get into a groove.

Everyone’s numbers are going to be affected by the loss of last years players.

If he turned down $6M+ this summer, he should fire his agent.

I don’t know what he turned down or even if he was offered anything. I know a lot of people were saying $7m+ this past offseason. Not sure if that was from a source or just personal opinions.

Unless he turns it around and drastically from a production stand point, he isn’t sniffing those numbers.

I’m ready to move on from this guy

DeBrusk is that stock you bought too high on, but it's come back from the dead before, so you keep giving it chances even though you should have just cut bait when it got back to the original buy price.
