James T.S. Murphy telling someone they're wrong on birdsite.

Or lordy, me.
Most likely to protect the HockeyNow name. There's a big difference in proposing a creative trade and starting a rumor mentioning player names, ala the situation between Gibson's agent and Seravalli.

Debrusk for Pageau would be one of those trades that everyone knows is dumb at the time but they just go ahead and do it anyway like Smith for Hayes

Over the last 2 seasons DeBrusk goal totals rank 32nd among LW's & 22nd among RW's per NHL.com. He also ranks Top 5 among both LW & RW's in GWG's over the last two years. He scores goals in the dirty area which is what teams look for in guys. He'd be a sought after player should he hit FA.

I don't see what comparables would put him at $6.5M. Most of the guys I'd compare him to have gotten around 6.75% of the cap, which would put him at $5.9M with the estimated $87.5M cap. That for 5-6 years seems much more reasonable for a guy who's mostly been the 3rd best player on a top 6 line any time he's had success.
It will be highly dependent on his upcoming season since he had great stats in 60 games, but I think you're missing that goal scoring is paid a premium.

From guys making 5.5 mil to 9 mil range he would be T41 in Goals and T71 in points out of 121.

Obviously a bit arbitrary of a search since I do not have the full time to do more, but I think it isnt a stretch to say he would have been a 30 goal scorer last season had he played 82 games, and out of all 30 goal scorers last season, only 4 of them make less than 5 mil, with lots of guys in the 5 mil range signing before they broke out for 30+.

Jake is going to get his 6+ per year contract and he deserves it. He's the Robin to Pasta's Batman in terms of goal scoring hierarchy on the Bruins.

I know they'll likely keep Marchand & DeBrusk together, but I'd love to see a line of DeBrusk-Zacha-Pastrnak

5 years/ 6.5m per. Fair imo

If you were Jakes agent would you tell him to take that now?

Depends how Jake feels he can do next year if bergeron is gone and marchand is a year older. Does Jake think he’s going to build on those numbers or does he think he might take a step back with possible lesser linemates like when he played with coyle.

If you prorate 2020-2021 to a full year Debrusk averages per season

67 GP 20g 19a 39 points in his career

Does he bet on himself for one more year or lock up what he can this year with uncertainty in his linemates next season?

Also would the bruins offer 5x6.5 or do they want to see Debrusk for one more year?

Again, forgetting about $120-$135M coming into existence out of thin air from cap growth. That money isn’t going to players who aren’t UFA/RFA, and it’s not going to bottom sixers. 5x$6.5 offered and I hang up if I’m Jakes agent. 8x$6.5? Let’s talk. But shorter term starts close to $7M if not more.

Probably going to crush 35 goals and demand 7.5. He coming up to his prime on a contract year.

f*** the comparables common sense knowing what you have in player and what the organization needs

If I were his agent I would advise him to take that rate, but I would not advise him to agree to the term. He should take want either 3 or 8. At 3 years the idea is to take home 20 million home; it's insurance that can fund the rest of your life if you do have a career-ending injury in that time. Then hit the market at 28 for a bigger payday. An 8-year deal gives you more guarantees and a better chance to be a Bruin for life but has a lower maximum value. 4-5 years is what the team wants, not the player.

I would argue this past season it was Debrusk driving the line as insane as it may be.

I think it's more than his UFA market value right now. If he scores 35 and goes to the highest bidder next year I could see it though.

I think he gets locked up around 5 years $5.5 per year. Will be interesting if he is not signed at the trade deadline.

Jake played at 60+ point pace this season. His number starts with 6.5 minimum likely 7.

Anything under that is a gift.

Can't be paying UFAs for pace or what they might do in the future.

Well, you can, but you won't be employed long.

Agreed, but I’m sure he and his agent will feel differently.

Never underestimate a GMs willingness to spend on the open market. Especially with the upcoming cap bump.

If Jake does what he did last season, I think he’s easily looking at that on the open market should he and the Bruins not find common ground.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see him have a great year in a contract year either. So I guess the number could go either way.
