Highlighted probably makes it make sense.

Even aside from bringing his wife into it...and even if it is true, you don't say an NHL player "Sucks at hockey" as a host on Spittin Chiclets unless you have an axe to grind.

This guy is a partisan douche who needs to stay in his own lane making shitty films. Not sure why he even has a platform on SC.

Devils fan from Vancouver, eh? Must be a big Cory Schneider fan.

As I said on the mainboard, this guy is a twat and i generally can't stand the Shittin' chicklets unless they have an interesting interview, their normal content is like listening to a bunch of has-beens or never-wases talk hockey... oh wait.

Devils fan. If Trouba is being earnest then good on him. Yes, I recognize some of the irony. But even if I hate Trouba (and I do) but he tries to do a good thing - then that's Ok by me.

FYI - not all Devil fans are jumping on Trouba. I think it's a mixed bag, and some of it comes down to individualism and not necessarily fanbase-driven. I do think he could have framed it a bit better - but whatever, he's a hockey player not a PR guy. If its coming from the heart then good on him.

Trouba is a shitty hockey player but a good human. I personally thought his art career was ill timed from an optics perspective, but he did raise 160K for mental health charities by doing it.

Yeah, I don't think he's a bad guy. I do think he's a bit dirty and a lot of his hits are dangerous.

The fact of the matter is, hockey is a rough sport and has some problems. Everybody has dirty players on their team. I'm not interested in hunting down an individual because of the sport's culture (like a lot of people on mains seem to want to do with Trouba).

I actually think his art is pretty dope and good for him.

I really appreciate the Devils fans who had level-headed takes about this.

I think what Trouba said had some questionable optics and could have been explained better but as @Mr Bojanglez said, he's not a PR guy. He meant well and that guy deserved to be called out.

Hate the game, not the player. It's not like Trouba is lowkey dirty, trying to spear, butt-end or slewfoot people behind the backs of the refs or something. He just throws vicious hits, which for the most part have been deemed perfectly legal by the rules.

If you hate these type of predatory hits, the issue should be with the rulebook. And I do think we might see a ban on open-ice hits at some point during the next 10-20 years of hockey.

That entire main board thread is basically infraction after infraction but it’s allowed to continue

Don’t even think about disciplining me when that garbage is allowed on this site

Well said. Very few things I care less about than people saying Trouba is dirty. Yeah he is, so what? He’s not the first dirty player and won’t be the last. You can tell most devils fans on the internet are kids because Scott Stevens is a war criminal if Trouba is dirty.

I still don't understand his tweet though. I agree the chicklets piece was trash but where does athlete suicide come from?
He's making the point that athlete suicide and athlete mental health issues are on the rise since the internet became a thing.

Every mouthbreather has a platform now and journalism isn't handled professionally anymore.

His point is that athletes often get spoken about both online and in the media as if they're not even human, when in reality many of these comments get seen and heard by the players themselves, and the effect that it has on their mental health is not something to be ignored.

Trouba kind of went straight to 10 by invoking suicide rates, but then again, you only get 280 characters to make a point.

I think his response could have been worded better, but as has been said, I honestly understood what he was trying to say right away.

Talk about my play. Talk about how I play. Say what you want. But don't even mention my wife, my charity or my personal ventures.

I agree with that. Fans have a lot of access now, but I still like to operate under different rules, so to speak. Don't talk about outside the rink. People might forget that through the 70s, 80s and 90s there were chants at various rinks that dont sit well with me looking back. Lot of ugly stuff from the NY area, Boston, Montreal, etc.

I understand but he didn't say that. There's a few implied assumptions to get to that conclusion and arguably more than inferring he's having issues.

Zero to 10 is spot on.
