Trouba is a throwback player. He is dirty for sure by today’s standards, but he’s just a typical rugged defenseman if you have a little gray in your beard.

That said, out of control sticks needs to be punished. Rangers lucked out there.

I don't think he's a dirty player. This looked like a dirty play and I think the Crosby hit was too but almost all of his hits are clean.

Crosby play was entirely accidental. Anyone who thinks he has the reflexes to do that doesn’t understand how the human body works.

The Khaira is the only hit people can make a case for. I get that the player put himself in a bad position but that was a tough one.

Careless for sure. Fine definitely warranted.

Is it a suspension? I see lots of legitimately intended two-handers go without suspensions (not to the head obviously) so it's hard to say. I haven't seen a consistent standard. If they suspended him for a game I wouldn't be upset about it.

Trouba is the type of defenseman a team that wins the Cup must have. Love him old school as fuvk.

In my opinion it was worth at least a 1-2 game suspension also considering Trouba's history with a suspension and fine in the past for foul play.

The action wasn't malicious or intentional but it was still reckless. Frederic holding his arm and Trouba being slightly off balance are the mitigating factors why it shouldn't be a 5+ game suspension. But a 5k fine is a light punishment. Rangers and Trouba got away with one here.

Just goes to show you that the whole victim-mentality this fanbase has, is unwarranted.

His last suspension was in 2017. Unless I’m forgetting about a fine since then (before yesterday’s), he has no history as far as the DoPS is concerned.

If that happens to a Ranger I want a suspension. Feel the same way here. League needs to protect players from reckless plays. Regardless of what most think, his hits are almost always clean. That was reckless.
I’d prefer the power play to the suspension tbh. If I’m the bruins I’m most upset that there was no penalty called at the time. I think both teams were on the same page that it wasn’t worth getting all upset about otherwise. (Contrary to a few particular fans on this site).

I'm not sure how much a suspension from 6 years ago impacts their decision but it's part of his disciplinary record which the DoPS rules on.

The 5k fine was in 2020, by the way.

At least from my memory I can't remember a player getting a long suspension if there's no significant injury. So many people on the main board are out to lunch on that. To me it looked like a good case for a highstick double minor. Reckless use of stick yes.....malicious???? .....some question over intent or whether he was trying to maintain his balance as bodies were colliding.

Trouba is a beast. Yes he gets a fat paycheck. IMO he's lived up to it.
Fox out and the guy has stepped up big time.
What would a prime Chris Pronger fetch in 2023?
Difference with Trouba is Pronger carried his stick like a club. He would hit guys sticks so hard it would vibrate their hands. Today he would get many more stick on stick slashing calls.

Trouba goes right up to the line without crossing it 95% of the time. Barry Beck would try to hit guys as hard as he could but would let up if he felt the guy was in a vulnerable position and would get hurt. Guys like Stevens didn't let up.

Without Trouba this team would be tissue paper soft. We would be the Kleenex Rangers.

Said this before, but will say it again. I didn't know which was worse. Losing McD, or signing Trouba. Initially it was signing Trouba. Now I'm thinking losing McD. Does that even make sense? Trouba has really grown on me, disregarding his toughness and hard hits, his overall play has been MUCH better than I've ever seen. Maybe this contract isn't so bad after all.

Almost had me, until that last sentence.

$8 million per is bad. Full stop.
