First Mika, now Jacob? Look at how it's affecting Laf too, playing softball and shit.

These players need to stick to their game. Keep their nose down and play hockey. Work on their game.

Just another example of the pansification of NYers since 9/11.

Don't forget Kreider learning to play the piano. Pathetic. That's time that could have been spent deflecting pucks and jumping out of pools.

One of the ways that the game has really changed over the last couple decades or so is in how much it costs to equip and put a kid through the variety of competitive travel leagues. A rough guess maybe a decade ago would be about $15,000 a year starting around 8, 9, 10 years old. For those who don't have parents with a lot of money it's pretty damned unaffordable and if you have 2,3 kids then..... That kind of lucre is pretty much unaffordable to all but kids with professional types of parents (doctors, lawyers, corporate execs etc.) A reason why despite the efforts of the NHL and other hockey organizations to get more players of color into the game has kind of failed is pretty much right there. It is by far of all the major sports the most expensive one to play.

It's very true.

Hockey is an expensive sport to get into even just as a hobby/fun thing, let alone being young and having serious aspirations to become pro.

What's interesting as well is I started following the Rangers in the early 70's. I remember reading Brad Park's Play the Man. At the time after Orr...Park was the best defenseman in the league. In his book Park details a contract dispute with Emile Francis. Park wants something like $15 grand a year. Francis is playing hardball with him for something like $12,500. Back in that day lots of NHL players had summer jobs. Phil Esposito for instance for several years drove a tractor trailer in the summer. The Rangers actually grabbed Giacomin out of a mining job in Sudbury Ont. They were looking for his brother and he was off on vacation or something and I guess Eddie was the next best thing. Back in the 70's I could get a hockey stick for $8. It was wooden mind you but......OTOH things were a lot less organized for kids in just about every way. For NHL players the WHA coming along in 1972-73 kind of ratcheted salaries up quite a bit. There was another league competing for the same players. NHLPA kind of sucked and the owners were used to exploitation as it was. Before the first expansion there were 6 teams and if you were lucky enough to play in the NHL back then and you weren't Gordie Howe or Bobby Hull you kept your mouth shut. Back then though it was more the working poor and working class.....elements that pretty much stayed into at least the 1990's.

Things change over a lifetime. You roll with the punches.

The most surprising thing about Trouba is dabbling in oils in DUMBO and not UES/UWS.

What Trouba cannot communicate through his cotton-mouth, he does through abstract expressionism.

Only thing I can give him props for is turning into a killer after Matt Martin turned him into Wile E. Coyote that one time.

He has doled out quite a number of mega hits since then for sure.

Will always be 'meh' on him as a whole. His art blows tho and he really should stop or at least not tell anyone.

DJ Khaled and Van Gogh wannabes runnin' the show.

See, the real trick to his art is that he has one color painted on him, and his target has the other painted on them. And he's actively checking someone into the canvas each time. And the way Trouba's paint is getting onto the canvas is because he's actually just straight up sending the other person to the shadow realm every time, so both of their paints end up on the canvas. Like a sandwich with Trouba and the canvas being the bread, and the other person being the sandwich fixins'.

It's truly a moving piece once you understand the amount of other people's lives that Trouba has taken in the name of art. The pain and suffering the captain is provoking from each subject as he ends their merciless lives. I can only imagine that the subjects were all dressed up as Crosby.

Trouba never should have been an 8M player, even before the cap ended up going flat, but he IS actually a damn valuable and solid defender. He isn’t that top tier defensive D that like a Slavin or Pelech is, but he’s FAR more physical and imposing. He isn’t a stud offensive D, but he puts up respectable numbers without PP production. In general, he is a very good defenseman. If he was on like a 6M contract, no one would ever bad mouth him.

I hate to say this but the entertainment factor of having a guy like Trouba is huge for me. Of course if he costs us a game, its not worth it, but I love having the guy on the team just based on the holy shit factor that he brings.

I only caught the end of the game but my brother in law said that Trouba hit someone in the head with a stick today. I haven’t watched a replay yet - was there an “incident”?

It was real careless with the stick and yeah probably should be a suspension. I think he was kind of turning blind and swinging like a lot of guys do in scrums to whack someone hard on the pants but was way off
Trouba doesn’t usually go in for stick work so dunno that I think it was intentional but definitely careless enough to warrant a suspension

Eh looking again I think it’s worse than I first thought. He’s at least trying to slash the guy on the arm

Trouba was trying to free his stick from a guy holding it. When the guy let go he hit the guy - or another guy - in the head. I don’t think it was an attack or even done in anger.
I figure everyone on the ice knew it was an accident/incidental and thus - with the fine the league is saying ‘you should have gotten two mins’.
Of course there’s a hysterical main board thread complete with the absolute most damning slow mo cropped out-of-context clip conceivable.

Edit: maybe not trying to free his stick but they were awkwardly tied up and when trouba unwound he came down on the Boston guy. Either way, I’m pretty sure it wasn’t intentional. Still amazed there was no call.
