I don’t know if Zegras has the potential to be as good as Eichel, but I think he has the potential to be the best in his draft class or at least on the same level as Hughes. As a NY and westchester county native, really rooting hard for this kid to succeed.

Zegras is from nyc area?? Wow, didn't know that.

Well, what's your definition of value ?

Like are we talking a 2nd, minor prospects and Drouin, or are we talking good prospects, but not like Zegras, Caufield level ?

I don't think he gets traded until his injury issue is resolved and he returns to play. I can't see any team taking on that risk at this point, even if the acquisition cost is low.

They need to figure out what they are going to do regarding his surgery. The fact that it has lingered this long is crazy. Get healthy, play some hockey, and rebuild his value. That's the best course of action for the Sabres.

This is worst case for the Sabres at this point from a trade return perspective anyway.

They passed by all three of their best opportunities to trade him this offseason (expansion, draft, free agency opening)

Jack failed the physical, so they still have to pay him.

Their options will be limited next offseason due to the NMC and bonuses.

The only way they can get a better return now is by having Jack get surgery. Unfortunately they can't compel him. They don't really have any leverage to get him to do it except that it allows him to play in the Olympics, but that hope is dwindling.

The longer this goes on, the worse it looks from a PR and player relations perspective.

IDK what the endgame is, because it looks like they continued playing a bad hand and now they're stuck with even worse options than they had before.

I think Eichel will have to play some games and prove he is healthy and the same caliber of player. Obviously Buffalo doesn't want to trade him for les than he's worth, but teams will be hesitant to trade the haul that he normally would get until he proves he can play

Not gonna happen unless Eichel caves and gets fusion surgery. The Sabres are never signing off on ADR. The risks are far too great (at least in the estimation of the teams' doctors...And, not for nothing, the team's spine specialist has done a ton of research and development on ADR surgeries, so I feel like he would know).

Obviously Eichel in injured and the contention is which route he takes to get healthy. It doesn't matter whether he has fusion surgery or ADR. Teams don't care the route he takes to get from point A to point B. They want to wait until he gets to point B before trading for him at fair value.

The risks of ADR don't go away once Jack recovers. Opposite, actually-- that's where it starts. We have no idea if those replacements can hold up to the trauma of contact sports. The Sabres are never taking that risk. If Jack so desperately wants to, it will need to be with the blessing of some other team's medical staff.

Then that will definitely diminish the return

Eichel will never play another game for the Sabres again.

All fan opinions are basically useless at this point. Only ones that matter as a threshold matter are Jack's, sabres team doctors, and other team doctors.

No trade is really possible until Jack has or schedules a surgery that another team's doctors would agree to let him play with. That may not include ADR.

By all accounts, Jack is demanding a surgery that many doctors wouldn't feel comfortable letting him play again. Those discs can break, and might seriously hurt him in the process.

That's the threshold issue. If it's resolved, we can talk return. If it's not, he's literally a useless $50m liability. So just wait for some medical news, because there's no NHL-eligible player named Eichel right now and there won't be until doctors and player can agree.

Probably time to close this thread and any others that propose an Eichel trade. He's not going anywhere under the current circumstances.

Until Tampa swoops in and trades for the LTIR space and gives up a couple of 1st (late picks and mid tier prospects) uses the LTIR to go for it again and deals with the Eichel situation after he’s healthy and trades him for a bigger return when medically cleared to play next off season.

Would be amusing to see the hockey world lose their minds. Especially if Eichel returned for the playoffs when the cap no longer needs to be managed.

Can you imagine Tampa Bay with cap space for rentals at the deadline and being able to potentially add Eichel for another playoff run? Oh I’d honestly love to see it.

According to the OC Register they asked for Drysdale, Zegras, and our 3rd pick from this draft.:laugh::laugh:

Can’t blame them for trying. After today’s news the counter offer is a family pass for Disneyland with a 20% off food voucher and a pair of Mickey Mouse Ears. Anaheim will also give Buffalo Dallas Eakins to help their tank for the next 2 years.
