Are you trying to will this into existence?
Just you wait, it will happen.

You may disagree but the Flames hands are now untied, conditions on the table and medical sheets are viewable. The shackles have been broken. Just Calgary and Anaheim, will Anaheim want to trade Zegras? NO!

Calgary is definitely a possibility. What do you see the trade being?

Hmmm if I were a betting man I could see the following:

1. 2022 1st round (possible condition attached?)
2. 2023 1st round conditional (I’m 50/50 if CGY would need to include two first round picks)
3. Jussi Valimaki / Oliver Kylington
4. Connor Zary/Jakob Pelletier/Matthew Coronato
5. And a roster player, perhaps Monahan or Lindholm (I’d much rather Monahan but I think there’s a legit possibility in Lindholm)

It’s been said that Buffalo’s not interested in a roster player. That’s fine too, we can LTIR Eichel until the playoffs a la TBL style and figure out the cap in the summer with Johnny and Tkachuk needing contracts. If so, we’d have to give up two of Zary/Coronato/Pelletier.

Thoughts?

Sure, but Buffalo actually needs $6.5 million in cap coming back to get to the floor.

Is that milan Lucic's music??

Lucic has a NMC. Monahan has a NTC. There'd probably have to be a third team that Monahan is willing to go to. Third team would have to send a lot of salary to Buffalo.

Is there another way to make cap space for Calgary with players that don't have a NTC?

It is challenging.

Here are the players without any sort of trade protection that make a decent chunk of change:

Tkachuk - $7M AAV
Lindholm - $4.85M AAV
Mangiapane - $2.425M AAV
Hanifin - $4.95M AAV
Andersson - $4.55M AAV
Zadorov - $3.75M AAV

The real challenge is that Calgary is unlikely to want to move most of those guys...

I could see some sort of 3-way deal like:

Calgary gets Eichel
Team B gets Monahan
Buffalo gets return for Eichel plus return for Monahan, while retaining money on Monahan to help reach the cap floor

So maybe like:

Calgary gets Eichel
Ottawa gets Monahan at 50%
Buffalo gets Tierney and a 2nd from Ottawa and Pelletier, Valimaki and 2 1sts from Calgary

I think I may be massively undervaluing Monahan, though. I'm really not sure how to gauge his value right now.

Honestly not too far off based on his last few season, but I think Calgary would rather hang onto him for that cost. If it meant Eichel though? You never know. They probably insist on 2 of those assets being taken out of the trade I'd guess.

The trade from Calgary's POV would be the same trade as above, it would just be Buffalo retaining half of his salary and then flipping him to another team.

Like I said, a third team would be involved and they would acquire Fiala.

This is nothing against Fiala. It's more about the situation the Sabres are in. They just tore everything down. They aren't in position to negotiate a fair long term contract which Fiala will require soon.

They just let Dahlin walk to one year before UFA because they had no leverage. I know if I was a good player there's no way in hell I'd sign a long term deal with the Sabres right now without a massive overpayment.

maybe AZ could be brought in?

Min in- Eichel 25% retained
Min out- Fiala+Greenway+1st+2nd

Az in- fiala+ retain on eichel (25%)+ wild 2nd
Az out- 1st+ dump to even salary

buf in- Greenway + wild 1st + Az 1st + az dump to even out the salary buff needs to hit floor
buf out: eichel

not sure if that would be enough but thats close to value they want

Lindholm + Zary + 1st + conditional 1st + young player/prospect is a good haul for Buffalo.

You just have to throw Rask and his expiring 4M deal into any MN trade to make things work. Sabres will not be retaining 25% of 50M, nor should they. They can, however, eat Rask's salary, while using him as a C this year.

I just don't think Guerin is prepared to throw away this season by trading his 2nd best forward(Fiala) and waiting around for Eichel to heal and get up to game shape. This was the sort of deal that needed to be made in the summer, so Eichel could've had the surgery then and got back to the ice by Thanksgiving.

In the video, it says “Jack Eichel is now sharing his medicals”.

was it Eichel’s camp or the Sabres camp refusing to share before? I haven’t followed it that closely.

Stupid move either way. This has never been about Buffalo not allowing the surgery but trading him to a team that will. Not sharing the medical information is about the stupidest thing you can do

Don’t disagree, but that doesn’t answer my question. Can a team release medical information without a players consent? And if not, was it Eichel or the Sabres refusing to release it? I agree it wasn’t smart if the goal was to facilitate a trade, I’m just asking for clarification.
