I wonder where our super star sports psychologist is on this one?

He fixed marner. What about jack?

Is he changing to more of a butterfly style? He still has that Cujo tendency of getting into a one knee paddle down, or that Cujo twist where he takes away the five hole by rotating his hips. He's not as wild as Mrazek but I wouldn't say he has a predictable pattern when it comes to reacting to similar routine plays.

come to think of it I remembered Freddie doing a lot more half butterfly in his later couple of years. I wonder if that is a Briere thing. I remember clearly because I tried bringing it to my own game but it didn’t work because I’m not athletic enough to transition out of it easily to the leg up side hahah

Not sure if I heard it right on the radio but they were discussing Soup's contract affecting his play. Strange that the contract was not a problem early on but is now ??? Signing certainly helped Rielly's game.

Soup is an OK tender .. not a money tender for playoffs but an OK regular season tender .. he is better than Mrazek but not by a huge amount .. all tenders have rough points in season and Soup is at his low point .. but like I said from start of year when most of you jumped all over me .. this team does not playoff money tenders .. and more importantly we don't have enough defensive defense .. nothing really changed from last year so same results should be expected a 1st round defeat .. but quite funny to read all da fan reaction crap on here .. what would be worse is if Dubie had paid for Soup before he earned anything .. mistakes were made to Mitch and Matty and I think he has learned from paying people before they earn it

Is it Mrazek’s net to lose now? Not asking what you think it should be more asking what coaching/management’s position is on this.

Definitely don't think it's Mrazek's net to lose because he hasn't seized it to suggest as such. However, nor has he been given the opportunity to do so (which I think should start happening with him getting more games).

What was wrong with Marner that needed to be fixed?
A lot of young players have issues with consistencies

You can't fix certain things. A lot of players also have great abundance of talent but can't seem to put it together

Thing about Jack is, he's one of those goalies. A lot of players were good earlier in the season, it's easier to play, the schedule is usually friendlier, your body is fresh from summer break
Now you see the grind, now you played a lot of games and playing a lot of games. Leafs even got a good break with the covid

Maybe, just maybe, he's not that good

Marner specifically said he worked a lot with Greg hardy about the noise.

Jack has documented self disclosed mental issues and appears to be crushed right now.

I personally think he gets it back but this hurt his contract which is good for us

well things can snowball and get out of hand. Who knows. Maybe he started out well super motivated to win a contract

then he has a bad streak and focuses on the money he is losing? Streaks happen throughout the year to every goalie. I just think that when jack slumps he craters.
It would make sense that now he is in a spiral about going into ufa and not performing well

Andrew Hammond was a star for a very short period of time. Only to disappear into obvlivion
Bilington
Murray out of Pittsburg

Maybe this is the group of goalies he belongs to

Maybe Hammond.

Campbell is missing something-- like a Stanley Cup -- to cruise into the Murray and Binnington category.

I really hope the best for Jack Campbell, but it's just hope.

Somehow he needs to stop the pucks he should stop, day-in day-out, and just go from there.

Nice guy and all that, but he has not yet established himself well enough to be counted on.

Marner was still elite while he was in his own head and under a point per game. There's really no numbers that exist to prove this is a mental problem at this point for Campbell. He's just not good enough and doesn't have the track record to prove otherwise. A pedigree is not a track record otherwise we should go and sign all first round first overall busts since their pedigrees are off the charts. I don't trust this guy right now even if it was true he was 100% mentally ready again by tomorrow.

Short version: I see the mental aspect as a side effect due to regressing, not as a cause for the regression.

Here's the main problem. I know I could be 100% wrong, but we don't have the playoff track record to bet against this view. We've been humbled the past 2 seasons so it would be really odd if we're just gonna brush it off and give him the benefit of the doubt like this.

This is a harsh take, but honest take
We are not a team that can take chances or bet on hope at this stage.

There's nothing he has done in his career leads me to belive he is capable of turning it around. We are not talking about a young rookie battling consistencies, we are talking about a career backup and expecting him to be a starter out of all places in Toronto
Especially knowing what we will be against, Vasi from Tampa. All he did was clinch 3 series with a bloody shut outs last year

Even with prime Cujo and Belfour, we are going to have a hard time beating Tampa. Those chances will resort to zero if we go with Campbell.

Wasn’t Dusty Imoo one of the Jack Whisperers that brought his career back to life? It’s too bad that guy turned out to be such a problem.

I don’t really know what Briere’s technical school is. I’ve heard he’s very supportive of his goalies yada yada but couldn’t tell you what his stylistic book would be.

As an armchair psychologist, if I were speaking to Campbell I would just tell him to forget about the noise. The all star game was earned, that's over now, that standard is what you CAN be, don't worry about trying to be it that requires overthinking instead of natural play.

Don't worry about your contract, you now have a career in the NHL, the hard part is behind you. I feel this contract ambiguity might have messed with Andersen as well (on top of a heavy load over years in a sub-par defensive Leafs team). They are both soft spoken goalies, not aggressive like a Patrick Roy or Hasek.

Stay calm and quiet in the net, focused on the task and hand and not the other stuff. He has won this team plenty of points over the last two years that they didn't earn with their play. The team has your back.

I’m good with Jack
Everyone goes through tough times !!!

That was like for the first 10 years. That was the toughest time, conaidering he spent half of that in the minors

Hes now a starter
These are the good times if I am jack campbell

This is who he is. A very poor starter

We are still waiting for Jonathan Bernier to become mentally strong, find his game and consistency

Those radio guys make up anything for content.

43-13-7, 2.42GAA, .918Sv% career numbers as a leaf. That's not a poor starter leaf fans are just fickle.

Is it Mrazek’s net to lose now? Not asking what you think it should be more asking what coaching/management’s position is on this.
Front office has always made it clear that they want Mrazek as their guy reading between the lines. Jack wasnt suppose to take the mantle like he did and they dont want to pay him in the summer. That covid break killed his rhythm and hes been splitting the crease since. Jack earned the right to get a few starts in a row but politics is in the way.
