Player Discussion Ivan Demidov: Welcome to Montreal

He was an absolute force last night for sure, Definitely excited about what I saw, but we need to figure out the Top 6 this summer, if we want him to be succesful. That line needs to be able to take matchups away from Suzuki and co to be succesful and with Newhook missing open shots it's not going to be a threat. we need a 50-60pt defensively responsible center to play with Demidov and Laine so that we can free them both up to go off. This will alleviate the pressure on the top line and allow the bottom 6 to adopt a more checking style role.

Levshunov will be very good though.
He will be for sure.

Dunking on Chicago fans about Lev vs Demi is similar to people dunking on us for taking Rein over Michkov. It's way too far in the future before we have clarity on who are the essential pieces for their respective teams.

I for one am happy with both Demi and Reinbacher.

Yes. Just to be clear (as I clarified in another post), I have no problem with Levshunov being the Hawk's pick (like we went with Reinbacher). My criticism is mostly about them not doing their due diligence on Demidov. It felt amateurish not to bother doing the legwork to scout him properly.

If Levshunov busts (which I don't think he will) and Demidov thrives, the Hawks' chief scout will get much deserved criticism.

I know that this is a Demigod thread but anyone not wonder what it would have been like to have both Demidov and Michkov? After seeing Michkov this year and now demidov, one can only wonder what that could have been.
Slaf, Suzuki, Demidov, Caufield, Michkov we wouldn’t have been able to afford them all eventually.

I would trade Laine 100 times before Caufield.
Same, but the poster said we would have too much money on wingers if we have added Michkov. I’m saying who cares, make a deal. Michkov gonna be way better than Caufield. Anyway, it’s done, we can’t go in the past. Let’s hope Reino becomes at least a 3-4dman who’s not gonna miss lots of games

It was not a mistake to not draft Michkov? Ok bud, let’s see in 4-5 years lmfao.
It would be dumb to just get rid of Caufield.

As for Michkov... he could well be a superstar. But look at what happened with the Leafs. All of them are the same type of player.

What's the biggest hole in our lineup? It's right side D. Reinbacher is absolutely perfect there. Michkov may well be the better player but you're trying to build the best team. We've got a bunch of great wingers. We badly needed the RD.

Only because no one actually believed Demidov would be there. I thought for sure Chicago or Columbus (especially with all their current Russian stars) would take him.

So yeah, there was discussion on Lindstrom, Iginla, Sennecke and the defensemen. But, once he fell to us, there was pretty much a complete board melt down.

The Demidov & Hutson picks were 2 picks that everyone seemed to agree we should make. Unlike say the Slafkovsky pick, which led to fierce infighting.
Some media pundits ranked Lindstrom and overstated the Russian Factor re Demidov. As if the Broken Back factor wasn’t enough!!

Having Caufield and Reinbacher is better than Michkov and the definitely not top pairing RD you'd get from trading Caufield.
How do you know what we could get for Caufield and how do you assume Reino is a sure thing top defenseman? You just draft the best player, who cares where they play. Anyway I don’t want to start an other debate on that in the Demidov thread.

We can get something really good for Caufield. Like I said, let’s revisit that in 4-5 years. You guys act like Reino is a sure thing and I don’t believe he is. I really hope I’m wrong.

I wanted Eiserman. But drafting Demidov made him redundant. We're packed with wingers. Yes, Mich could be amazing but he's more of the same. We need a different dimension. If you don't add that to the lineup then you end up like the Leafs.

We can get something good for Suzuki and Hutson too. That doesn't mean it's smart to trade them.

Again, you always draft for the best talent not the position. You make trades to fix that later. We could go all day long but it was a big mistake. Michkov is the best pick right now and he’s gonna be the best pick again at the end when they retire.

I think Reino will be fine and a big piece of the puzzle but the cope about not picking BPA is really unbelievable sometimes.

They preferred Reino, so be it, but acting like Reino is already a top NHL dman is very funny because we all know as soon as Reino does play in the NHL these guys will be quick to preach and demand patience. They want it both ways.

Meanwhile Michkov torched the league as a rookie and has already lapped Slafkovsky and Caufield.

I’m fine with the pick, it was fine, but the cope afterward is nauseating

We could get a top line winger, but it doesnt mean we need to draft a no3-4 dmen because we need some lmfao. Anyway it goes no where, just look at what u posted, enjoy ur day.

You just draft base on talent, it’s really a comon knowledge. The Reino army here is something else.
