Player Discussion Ivan Demidov: Welcome to Montreal

We don't. But the team looks really good going forward.

My cups comment is tongue in cheek. But it's silly on the one hand to say that Demidov will be a first line winger and then turn around and say we can't know anything about Reinbacher...

It's one or the other. Either you can know something from a player's minor league career or you can't.
At the end of the day, I’m taking a future top10 winger before a second pairing dman. I dont think Reinos gonna be a top RD. Injuries are a big concern. I really really hope I’m wrong, would not be the first time.

You will be wrong. RB is going to be top pairing with Hutson. I think it's very safe to say that.

It’s as much safe ti say he’s gonna be a top pairing than not at this point. Time will tell.

You seems like the optimist one, with the multiple cups and everything, gotta give it to you. Maybe I’m too hurt from beeing a habs fan for over 30years lol.

He doesn't play defense. Going to give up a lot of goals, I never seen nobody in NHL do that before. Can see why Russian coach was benching him. Not the slightest clue how to play defense. Never took his man, didn't even skate hard coming back.

Lots of speculation on ur side. I tend to look at facts and facts says Michkov is the best pick. It’s like all those teams passing on Demidov. Pretty sure Clbs fans are pissed, even if center was a need for them.

Anyway, back to Demidov, he’s gonna be a star.

Lindstrom is not even your typical center, he plays like a winger.

I'm simply saying it's not as cut and dry as you think. I'd say RB is a blue chip top pairing blueliner. Won't be flashy but will do all the things Hutson can't.

Obviously it would be great to add Michkov. But at the end of the day you have to choose how to put together your team. The club looked at the following draft and saw a lot of talent at forward. Easier to get... and that's exactly what happened.

We have Demidov. We don't need Michkov. But we defintely need Reinbacher. You're building the best team and we've got a pretty complete group.

It's only been one game but I'm sold on Demidov. I saw enough of him in the KHL to know he's the real deal. Just like I saw Hutson and Reinbacher. These guys are all really good.

Demidov, Slaf, Nick, CC... our offense is in really good shape. Need a 2C but we'll get it. Love the way our team is shaping up. Here's more speculation for you... Hutson wins the Calder this year and Demidov next year.

I’ve seen enough of his play in the KHL to say he’ll do better than two-way responsible center Macklin Celebrini who’s -30 this season and Bedard who’s -82 these two past seasons.

Couldn't care less about his two way play, personally.

Czar. Demidov is the guy you can focus on his stats and trash if his stats are not outstanding and If he’s not a superstar right now. Not Slaf. You went after the wrong guy…I’ll fully back you if Demidov doesn’t meet sky high expectations.

Not really a bold statement to says Hutson is gonna win the calder :P

I dont see Reino as high than you. But I get your reasoning. I stand by my position on Michkov, time will tell. Like I said, hope Im wrong.

My obsession with Slaf is that I thought he wasn't a good enough prospect to be rushed to the NHL. I felt smug and vindicated about it until after midway in his second NHL season where he showed that he can hang (and thus proved me wrong). It didn't have anything to do with his production directly, I just don't trust that "projects" will develop in the NHL. So if a prospect is in the NHL full-time, he will be expected to play well or put up points. He wasn't playing well AND he wasn't putting up points. So I grumbled and continue to grumble.

Demidov is different because he already has nowhere else to develop. He's set records for his age band in the KHL. He's a blue chip prospect... As long as he plays well or puts up points we will be happy -- his "defensive game" can be bad, who cares? He won't be the first or last attacking player to be "bad defensively". The rest of the team will have to cover for him.

RIP the Russia factor.

It was claimed that Hughes wouldn't draft a Russian, and that a Russian wouldn't be allowed to come here because they'd be drafted to the front lines.

It’s Demidov should have been a classic #1, just like Bedard and Celebrini. You want superstar now. Slaf is a Power Forward. Usually Power Forwards are not drafted #1 but if you look back on their careers they often should have. There are exceptions like Lindros and Sundin… It’s not as different as drafting a D or a G at #1 but it’s certainly not a classic #1.

Putting aside that I disagree with Slaf being a Power Forward...

If Demidov had the rookie season similar to what Bedard or Celebrini had I'd be enthusiastic with any reservation. Both Bedard and Celebrini showed promise of great things to come. Hopefully Demidov follows in kind. His scoring race against Michkov will be a hoot.
Cole Caulfield has 37 goals this year, largely at even strength. He deserves more respect from this forum.
Caufield is good, but he's not been great like we know he can be. For one, he should shoot the puck a lot more -- he has a lot fewer SoG this season than last (and his TOI went down by a full minute). Secondly, his puck management seems like it should improve, because he's otherwise a clever and economical player.

Is it disrecpect to think someones gonna be way better when they have like 10pts differential and 4 years apart? I really like Caufield, he’s a good player.

Goals are worth more than assists and even strength goals specifically are the most valuable kind of point.

Kovy man, I know he wasn't consistent all year but when he was on, he was a beauty.

Outside of goalies, am I wrong to say he's been our best playoff performer in the last 25 years?

Cant wait to see more from Demidov.
Mike Cammalleri deserves a mention for sure

I think he’ll blow Bedard out of the water. Both Celebrini and Demidov will be top producers. Flip a coin for who’s better.

Despite being a d-man playing in Therrien's defensive system and for Bergevin's talent-less rosters, PK Subban led the Habs in scoring in multiple post-seasons.
