Between all of Heyman, Moroni, Passan, Rosenthal, etc., who do we trust the most? Seems like Morosi and Heyman just tweet to day things and get more wrong. Passan seems to be more credible to me but he doesn't break as many things.
If Passan says it, you can take it to the bank. The rest are all hit and miss

Yimi seems to be another Chatwood-type, lowish risk, lowish reward. We signed a lot of those guys over the years and so far they've been a waste of money. Really hoping they can pick up an ace reliever like Iglesias.

I think Garcia has a much narrower range of outcomes than Chatwood, which is a better fit for the team.

They're really gonna let Ray walk in favor of Gausman? Gross.

Sources are saying it breaks down like this; Gausman prefers to stay on the west coast (which is why Seattle is apparently one of the favorites to land him), but the Mets have the most money on the table. Toronto factors in...somewhere given all the insiders are saying they're in on him.

Idk man, Gausman with only 2 good pitches against those AL East teams all year? I think i'd rather Ray since he's already shown he can be successful.

It could be that Ray isn’t close to deciding either. So the Jays wouldn’t want to hold out and miss on Gausman.

I prefer Ray though.

I really don't think he is similar to Chatwood in anyway at all honestly. Garcia's stuff is far beyond Chatwoods to a pretty significant level.

About the same age, both guys coming over from careers in easier NL where their FIP/XFIP was around 4. Chatwood had the much better groundball rate and higher walk rate (so maybe a better candidate to be fixed by Walker). And Yimi is also very injury-prone.

Steamer projects both guys to have near identical ERA/FIP/XFIP next year.

Kinda hate this signing tbh. The last thing I would have said we need to waste money on is mediocre relievers. Spend the money on one ace reliever, and find the lower leverage guys on the scrap heap/organizational guys.

Did Ray develop some awesome 3rd pitch I'm not aware of? Ha. They're both 2 pitch guys, either splitter or slider. And both very good to great at it.

This is my thinking as well but maybe they think they can tweak a few things.

Mets vs Jays in free agency has been quite the rivalry these past two offseasons lmao they’re in the running for everyone
It was pretty funny when they basically signed all the wrong players last year.

Would you welcome Stroman back?

I dont object to Stroman coming back, but I expect his contract would hurt.

If he would take something like 2x15, I think we could bring in the leadership to work with him and everyone else to make this work.

Edit: projections suggest he could make in the 20s and he might chase a payday over a chance to win.

I would have to say no, I'd I'd keep him and his whiny little antics as far away from our youth as possible
Just that Stroman has better numbers than Gausman in AL. Should be able to get him cheaper. Around 3 years - 20 million per I would guess. Gausman the demand is so high, going to be 5 years, 22 to 24 million per. Can count on Stroman for 200 innings. Gausman not so sure on

Do not need that moron Stroman and his idiotic, race baiting mouth.

We want players who put the team first, and don't cause chaos and division wherever he goes. He's nowhere near good enough for those kinds of headaches.

Perhaps he should practice gratitude for where he is.....instead of whining about how hard done by he was.

The Mets’ quest for pitching

The Mets want to add starting pitching, but how exactly are they going to do it?

Price seems to be no object for owner Steve Cohen, but the team’s luxury-tax payroll already is approaching $230 million. That number would rise to $270 million if the Mets added free-agent right-hander Max Scherzer at about $40 million per season, and for that to happen Scherzer would need to abandon the preference he showed for West Coast teams at the trade deadline. The luxury-tax threshold in a new CBA is likely to increase, but not to $270 million. And even at that number, the Mets likely would need another starter plus two more relievers.

Scherzer, then, appears a long shot. Robbie Ray would cost the Mets the 14th pick in the draft, a selection they want to keep. Marcus Stroman tweeted Saturday that he is “not preferred by the front office,” saying they “rather (would have) Gausman and Ray,” only to apparently delete the tweet later.

Gausman, Jon Gray and Carlos Rodón, none of whom is tied to a draft pick, would appear more likely targets for the Mets. But the Mariners, Blue Jays and other clubs are on Gausman, and Gray is drawing significant interest as well. The Mets also are exploring trades for starters, but beyond the Athletics’ Frankie Montas, Sean Manaea and Chris Bassitt, that market, too, is relatively thin.
