Because it’s so vague it’s impossible it is wrong.
Yeah, I love those kinds of "insider" tidbits. Reminds me of Darren Dreger constantly dropping "insider information" about teams being interested in certain players but qualifying that he hasn't heard if anything has been discussed between the two teams. And it's usually the most obvious players on the move.

I, Sidney the Kidney, have heard that multiple teams are interested in Timo Meier if he hits free agency. So when he gets signed I guess I deserve the Insider label as well!

Take months, whatever. As long as the next GM (or group) are competent and have a focused objective. The scouts already have all the draft info, and the amount of scouting GMs themselves put into picks outside of the top-5 is minimal at best.

Shit, take all summer. Nobody's worth chasing in FA anyway.

Yes, but trades need to be made with this team. You absolutely need a GM in place before free agency starts.

If you wait too long, you’ll end up like Hextall at the deadline and make a dumbass move for Granlund, because all of the good players were already moved while you were sleeping, I mean being patient.

Also, I don’t want the scraps of GM candidates. We can’t handle another brain dead GM like Hextall.

Not only what happened in Chicago... Bergevin was a terrible GM in Montreal.
Exactly this. Take out the connection to that repugnant franchise, and he’s still bad. Hitched his horse to the wrong wagons, time and time again, and built a team that was too good for the lottery but not nearly good enough to contend. 2021 was a fluke, and I pray that guy comes nowhere near our team.

That team went as Carey Price did. They never properly built around him. Managed to trade all of their star players, missed on two top 3 picks and left the franchise worse off than he got it.

Digs then.
Digs now.
Digs forever...

Molinari: Penguins’ Next GM Can’t Need On-the-Job Training

That is why Hextall’s replacement should be someone who already has the experience and contacts and relationships that come from serving in a position that requires interaction with colleagues from other organizations.

Expect to see LOTS of beating on this drum until someone is actually hired and it's such a crock of horsepuck. It's such a stereotypical "NHL" way to think.

We see other leagues start to transition the role of GM to more and more business and analytic minds and away from these "lifers" who continue to breathe outdated and disproven tropes but media and journos push this campaign to tell us that if the GM of the Penguins isn't a person who's had a donut and played golf with Lou Lam before, the noob will be left on "read" by all other teams.

Yeah Molinari is basically describing Burke here. And frankly I STILL don't know what that guy did on this team except refuse to tie his tie.

If we are hiring an experienced, former GM, we should also hire a progressive and younger up and coming executive from another team who can be the successor when Crosby retires and the rebuild starts.

Honestly, that's a fair assessment. You need someone that is already plugged-in to the system so to speak. You need someone that knows the "players" in a sense so that you don't have to spend time building relationships and feeling guys out.

Friedman brought up Marc Bergevin as a name that “could” be interviewed by FSG. Honestly, it seemed like he was just spitballing and there was no real substance. If you listen to the segment on 32 Thoughts, it 100% sounds like Friedman doing the agent a favor by getting his client’s name out there.

With that said, FSG has talked about involving Mario more. I do fear that they’ll ask for his input because Bergevin sounds like a guy Mario would recommend considering his last two GM hirings.

Lol. Mario being more involved is one of the problems. f***ing nepotism and favoritism orgy with hiring friends and pushing shitty narratives.

Let's just go with this:

If a new GM that is analytics oriented and smart as they say they want in a GM and he doesn't fire Sullivan.

The f***ing GM ain't smart.
