He also works for the richest team in the league who has no issue paying players to become injured to go on LTIR or in the minors.

Is FSG that kind of owner? That remains to be seen, but I don’t know how anyone can look as Dubas’ body of work having a legit top 3 player in Matthews supported with other Elite players like Marner and the good Nylander and still having never made it out of the 1st round and pine for the guy running your team.

If people were upset with Hextall’s nepotism, Dubas is just as bad. Anyone that has ever played for, or even attended a SOO Greyhounds game, can play or work for him.
So who are you worried about him bringing here, with Greyhound roots?
How will this affect the 2023-24 Pens?

We can start with Matt Murray. The same goalie with negative value he traded for last summer.

Hiring a mediocre GM will sink not only the 23-24 Pens, but many seasons beyond.

The biggest defense for Dubas I’ve seen here so far is the same defense JR got. “He’s not afraid to make changes.” Who gives a flying **** how many trades you make if your team is still mediocre, which the Leafs have been for his entire time there.

Again, he has elite players and has failed to surround them with the right supporting cast to make them anything other than paper tigers. I don’t see how you think he would do anything better here when our stars are not able to carry a team anymore. Kyle Dubas has proven to be nothing more than a mediocre GM so far.

I think it's clear that the one thing that Hextall and JR both lacked was a concrete vision for the team, so I'd probably start there, tbh.

Leafs have hardly been mediocre. Dubas makes great moves, his team chokes vs a very good team in game 7s, it's honestly just bad horrible luck.

He always finds depth for his stars. Knows when to let player go and get value for them. Sure he has a few bad moves, but who doesn't.

Boy, he must have the worst luck ever then.

They’re the Bylsma era Pens. Regular season titans and nothing to worry about in the playoffs.

Those rosters are not nearly as deep as the Leafs have been upfront. I honestly don't know what more Dubas could've done. The players didn't get it done, but the process was absolutely correct.

You sort of ignored the fact of how much more money FSG has the the Ownership of the Leafs, or my guess is you have me on ignore list

This can be said of pretty much every team other than like 5 over the past decade. Would that be a red flag for any GM of a team not named Tampa, Chicago, LA, Colorado, Pittsburgh, Washington or St. Louis?

What other teams had the young core that Dubas took over in 2018 that he hasn’t won with?

They’re perennial losers who haven’t even won a playoff series yet. Advocating for that GM is the same as advocating for the Capitals GM as they kept losing in round 1 every year.

Which retreads from juniors were bad additions? Murray's the only one I can think of and I think that was more of a gamble on Murray regaining his 2016/2017 form than it was because Dubas had him in the Soo back in like 2011 or 2012.

Him bringing in Bunting is hardly a bad move. Simmonds was brought in, but as a bit player who only dresses when they need a bit of muscle. The 13th forward being meh hardly makes or breaks a team.

Who else is there?

How can you argue against Murray being an awful addition? He had been terrible for years and was a negative value dump by Ottawa. No GM who is trying to contend should be adding Matt Murray as their starting goalie in 2022.

I wish we were regular season titans instead of missing the POs by a single point, to be honest.

Yeah. Just an unbelievable waste of a season. Accomplished nothing. Even their failure didn't rattle nearly enough loose. Everyone and their senile grandpa knew Hextall and Burke were getting burned regardless barring some kind of miracle run in which Granlund, Kulikov and Jeff Carter were lynchpins. And that's perhaps the most absurd thing I've ever typed out.

It has been reported that should the Leafs not extend Kyle Dubas’s contract that he will be highly sought after especially by the Penguins.

It’s often said that Dubas’s continual failure to get the Leafs to win Round 1 of the playoffs is team specific, otherwise he would be a terrific GM on another team.

Personally I don't give Dubas credit for hockey players growing up as Leafs fans and wanting to play for the Leafs for dirt cheap salaries :dunno:

If Pittsburgh had that allure, Hextall would still have a job here today. Imagine the impact a league minimum Spezza would have had in the bottom-6 on this team this season.

Well, TOR can be another first round flameout while the pens play golf.

Leafs are the real f***ing losers this year, that's for sure.

His contract is expiring. Toronto hasn't given him an extension.
How would MLSE look if they extended Dubas’s contract by say 5 years at the start of the 2022/2023 season if the Leafs would again lose in Round 1 of the playoffs? Should they beat the Lightning in Round 1, it’s likely Dubas will continue as GM. That’s the low bar of achievement expected from him.

This is the main thing. The only way Dubas is available is if Leafs underachieve yet again. Does anyone really think if he’s the guy that finally leads them out of purgatory MLSE won’t offer him a blank check to stay?

Good Non Answer ! Wrong again
How much money FSG is worth has no affect on if they’re willing to throw it down the drain to hide bad contracts from GM mistakes. The Pens aren’t a cash cow like the Red Sox or Liverpool.

Bob Nutting is like the 12th richest owner in the MLB. How’s that going?
