Amen.

Shit, they were paying Hextall $3.5 million a year to have agoraphobia. I'll take $300k and do no worse of a job.

*Trade Granlund and a second for an expiring contract at the draft

Is probably much more realistic.
I promise not to answer my phone and to ignore any doofus from a sports media / sports cutz franchise.

I don’t know what I expected but $3.5 million for Ron Hextall seems like a ton of money. Just think of those stretches in the seasons where he did literally nothing for months at a time.

How much do actual competent GMs get paid?

My two guesses. Call them my pessimism:

-Sully is retained by the new GM maybe ownership allows them to sacrifice the assistants yet again.

-if this happens I'm highly confident they extend old Dumo. Still playing top LD minutes, setting a career high in points. Smells to me like a 4x4 NTC deal. People can poo poo this but I'll believe in change once I see it.
If I had to guess, Sully's kept unless the new FO brings a clear upgrade to FSG worth potentially eating the $25+ million owed to Sully. Ownership's not gonna risk lighting that amount of cash on fire with playoff revenue up in the air and attendance ready to plummet. Sully has direct input on who the new GM is gonna be, so I'm sure he'll be present during the interview process. That likely means the new GM is gonna be someone open or downright willing to keep Zucker and Dumo around because Sullivan thinks extremely highly of them. I still think Jarry's as sure a bet to return as you can get because the FA options aren't clearly better and trying to imagine this team swinging a deal for Saros is impossible to me.

Say hello to your 2023-24 Pittsburgh Penguins! One Sidney Crosby injury away from a top-10, maybe top-5 pick!

Is Seattle going to fly Sleepy out to Seattle to thank him for his help at the expansion draft ahead of their playoff game?

They owe him. Maybe he gets a job as a scout there.

The one "positive" to Sullivan seeming to have a good reputation around the league is that he'll get scooped up if the Pens did fire him. Chances are they wouldn't be on the hook for the remainder of his contract for very long, so they shouldn't worry about that as an impediment to letting him go.

Probably. But he could also just get some cushy job on TNT shooting the shit with Gretzky and Biz while raking in like $5 million a year from the Pens, then when his deal is up, he can just pick a new place after a nice vacation because once you're in the NHL coaching/GM fraternity, you're in for life. Two Cups to his name and he can do whatever he wants.

Revenue's gonna be drying up as the era winds down, the team misses the playoffs more and more often, and eventually ticket sales crater once Sid is done in a couple years. I think that's gonna play a huge part in whether Sully is fired or not, now or moving forward tbh.

Does it work that way?
Trade a coach?

What does this guy even make a year?

I want someone to buy ME out. No, actually I want someone to buy our Rust and give me the money instead.
I'd plant you in Wilkes-Barre. Zero risk you'll be claimed in wavers. ;)

You kidding me, Pens x? Kraken was DYING to snag Jeff Carter. That one still hurts.

I don't hate him. I'd just prefer an outside voice who doesn't know these players, coach, or organization.

Same for me, if they hire Botts, I feel it's a legit free pass for Sullivan.

Someone with outside the circle using of analytics will be able to call BS on his PP, etc. We don't need a GM that just nods his head... they need to put the pressure on the coaches and players.

I mean. Sullivan is getting a free pass regardless. So.

Tulsky or Ventura are my main choices.

I don’t want to go overboard with a bunch of computer nerds and their stats, making roster decisions. Analytics has a place but there are other factors too.

We'll see... I'm not watching another Sullivan coached game so I'll be okay.

I'm speaking about smart analytics like looking at like contracts, term, etc.

It's exactly how you avoid Carters contract or Granlund. (Age vs. Money vs. Production decline)
