Sidney Crosby: "I think that's something that we’ll have a lot of time to dissect it and learn from it. But hopefully, we're a motivated group because of going through this."

Sidney Crosby: "I just hope that we learn from this, you know? I think that's the biggest thing. Regardless of the situation, whether you win or you lose in the first round, second round, whatever – you’ve got to learn from it.". Captain Milquetoast

Can't wait for the perp walk of failed GM corpses to interview. Should be fun....

Best thing that could happen for the fan base is a big move up in the draft lotto. It's the only thing that might make the summer interesting for this team.

Jeff Carter had a 73.1% defensive zone start %. I'm astounded. I just assumed it was in the high 50s.

Imagine sticking a square peg in a round hole and riding that baby for 13+ mins a night. Jesus christ.

Yeah Carter sucks at this point but Sullivan completely exasperates the issue by forcing Carter into a role he just doesn't fit in.

As I said all year, Carter should have gotten the Jason Spezza in Toronto treatment. 4th line minutes with mainly sheltered usage and second PP time, with the occasional D-zone faceoff because of his ability on draws. Not used as though he's a legitimate shutdown 3C.

Anyone who doesn’t think that his voice, as likely the longest tenured Pens employee at the table and one most closely working with the new GM team, won’t be given the most weight is delusional

If you are not going to let the Director of Player Operations or GM make the call on who the HC is get ready for Pierre McGuire Part DUH, Don't think a Multi Billion dollar group is going to let that happen, Seriously are you always Depressed

Hextall’s legacy as Pens GM will be akin to Scaredy Squirrel.

I touched on this last summer and the Malkin Maniacs got all bent, but Hextall never wanted him back.

Yet he never had the courage to follow his own vision for this team and let the fans incessant whining force him into keeping the Get Along Gang together.

That milquetoast attitude was his undoing.
Gms have wanted to make moves that could have altered this team's course and maybe pushed for a good rejuvenation only to have ownership step in and block moves because....we're all friends!!!

JR wanted to move Letang to push for a revamp of the blue line built around Matheson and the younger lads - Mario stepped in and said no.

Hextall likely had ideas. But if it had to do with the core, you want to bet how little freedom he actually had? He signed ex Pens he had no ties to, kept the core together because Sid wanted it, etc etc.

I like how we've had two Gms that tried shit and were vetoed or very limited near the end and the biggest problem is the coach. He misused so many players that the gms had no choice but to move players to get value vs having to buy them out.

I don't give a shit to talk about the fired blokes - the biggest issue is Sullivan and he remains. Having hope when the coach is an epic f***tard is futile for me at the moment.

Only if they're bottom-6 guys with term, and ideally bloated cap hits.
But then we'll get to see them fail in the Sullivan method and usage only to go to another team and rebound and be the player we thought we were getting and see utilized as such only to see Sullivan use them like Porter and some of the worst usage in the league for 5yrs running.

This team's not getting fixed, imo. Sully's still here, and the new FO, whomever they end up being, has to find a whole lot of parts for a team that probably had their window close years ago realistically speaking.

This team needs a new scoring line winger for Geno if/when Zucker walks--and if he doesn't, then they still need a scoring line winger for Geno. They need to remove Granlund's awful contract, they need to reshape the bottom-6 (or fill it out with WBS dudes on the cheap to let them learn on the job--genuinely couldn't be as bad as it was last season). They need a partner for Letang if/when Dumo walks, and if he's re-signed, well... Then they're locking into end-of-career Scuderi. They need at least one, arguably two goalies.

And again, Sully's still around, so you know his TOI distribution, line combinations, and usage of guys (like Carter, and Granlund, etc.) to be all f***ed up.

All that being said, they needed to clean house in the FO. They need to follow up by revamping this *entire* scouting dept over the course of the next calendar year or so. Everybody needs to go; pro scouts, amateur scouts, all of 'em. The players this team has keyed in on and targeted in recent years have been f***ing awful, and as much as we all wanted the FO gone, that's just as much an indictment of the scouting crew, probably more so.
