jets know he won't come back as a ufa, so why not get something.
that being said they could trade him at next years deadline for a haul

I don't really consider finishing 7th as sitting in the bottom of the standings. And keep in mind we basically never had anything close to a healthy lineup, a little while ago we had something like 140 more man games lost to injury then the next closest team.Right now, the odds of MTL finishing bottom 7 again next year are still pretty high to be honest : they should be better than ARI and PHI, but I don t see any other team in front of them in their reach and SJS ANA and CBJ should be much better than what they were this year.
Of course it depends what happens in the offseason.
The gap's nowhere near that biga little while ago we had something like 240 more man games lost to injury then the next closest team.
Small typo it's 140 not 240The gap's nowhere near that big
Given that the reports are out there that he would like to go to Montreal they might not get much for him anyways. They might view him as not wanting to play much as he's more focused on going to Montreal and the team that acquires him has no real chance to extend him.jets know he won't come back as a ufa, so why not get something.

Vanek is a different story. He ended up in Montreal because we were one of the few teams that could take him without any retention.Given that the reports are out there that he would like to go to Montreal they might not get much for him anyways. I think that's part of the reason Montreal got Vanek for so cheap as it was likely he was going to go to Minnesota.
What are the odds a better UFA wants to sign here in 2 years? I don't remember a better UFA signing better than PLD. Kovy maybe but we trade for him... Cammy and Gionta come to mind but were nowhere near as good.I don't see the urgency to "lock him up". It is not clear when the team will be competitive, and by that time the team needs may be far different from now. 8M or so that he would sign for, might be needed and better used on another player available then, like a RD or goaltender.
I don't know what people have in mind. 63 pts, 6'3", 24 y is not enough for them. They expect another McDavid ...or nothing. Or they say we are fine with Suzuki and Dach. And when they try to make a line-up they put Dach with Suzuki and Caufield. All the best on one line. And who will be our second center? Dvorak I guess, who else? If people are satisfied with Dvo and Evans taking big minutes playing center, what can I say? What are the odds a better UFA wants to sign here in 2 years? Who do you have in mind ? Especially someone under 25 we wouldn't have to trade for because he wish to sign here... Occasions like PLD don't happen often, MTL didn't experienced it in 30 years. Denying the 6f3 local center for a possible unicorn is pretty crazy if you ask me.
I'm not saying to pass just stating facts. He's not a PPG player yet, he hasn't shown it. I'm of the opinion to trade for him, but we need to be cautious. Do you think he should make more than Suzuki?I know right!!!!!??!?!?!!
63 points/73 games for a 6'4'' 214lbs local guy, we have too many of those!
HaRdPaSs!!!?!??!?!?!!!!!

Probably should get something similar. 7.5-8M$ year sounds about right.I'm not saying to pass just stating facts. He's not a PPG player yet, he hasn't shown it. I'm of the opinion to rade for him, but we need to be cautious. Do you think he should make more than Suzuki?

Lol Monahan. He's not coming backI mean, you could have said:
Dach 6'4
Slafkovsky 6'3
Anderson 6'3
Monahan 6'2
At the beginning of the season. Listing names and heights doesn't mean anything.
And most people are opposed to Dubois at any cost.
Being small isn't/hasn't been as much of an issue as not having elite talent for the organization. Dubois is a very good player, but he's been a PP specialist playing on a team with lots of PP weapons. If that PP performance is more team-oriented than player oriented (like the last few guys Bergevin brought in to fix the PP), then you're looking at a guy who produces like the current version of Gallagher or Monahan.
Considering what Dubois will rightly demand on his next contract, its not a risk-less acquisition. And considering the mess Bergevin left behind, Montreal doesn't have that much leeway to take major risks. Calculated ones? fine. But if the choice is trading a good 1st, a quality prospect ++ and then making him the highest paid forward in franchise history, then I'm going to want to spend a ton of time to explore all other options instead. Montreal is rebuilding, Dubois only makes sense if its a good deal.
Ripe for us sure but maybe getting over ripe for Winnipeg. The Jets making the playoffs changes the picture. It's much easier to assume if they don't get their price they will hold out. I've never bought the Jets hands are bound scenario just like I've never bought Montreal is the only possible destination.I think FLA's pick is ripe to trade for PLD now that they're into the high teens, potentially 20's. Add a decent but not top tier prospect and you have the makings of a solid trade package for him now. Then trade Eddy, and sign a UFA RD like Klingberg, Severson or Dumba and you have the makings of a pretty solid lineup without even winning the lottery.

Caufield Suzuki Dach - 1A line
Slafkovsky PLD Anderson - 1B line, reunite PLD and Josh and edcuate Slaf how to play big
Hoffman D-Vo Gally - Has Dano, Tatar line vibes
RHP Evans Armia/Ylonen - motor/energy line
Matheson Barron
Guhle Klingberg/Severson/Dumba
Xhekaj Savard
Harris Kovy
Monty

He might be on a cheap contract but he shouldn't be factored into any roster decisions. He isn't likely to last the whole season.Lol Monahan. He's not coming back
Even on a cheap deal , the dude is completely brokenHe might be on a cheap contract but he shouldn't be factored into any roster decisions. He isn't likely to last the whole season.
On a 1 year 1.5 mil contract, for example, it doesn't really matter if he is hurt a lot of the season. Depends on how long it takes him to recover form his latest injury and why it happened. If he can last to the trade deadline he might bring a decent return.Even on a cheap deal , the dude is completely broken
Meh id rather put Dach as second C and find a better Dvorak for third centerOn a 1 year 1.5 mil contract, for example, it doesn't really matter if he is hurt a lot of the season. The rookie d are better than the veteran d. So let’s agree to disagree. There is almost no chance this team isn’t bottom 10 and possibly bottom 5 again next year.I mean the odds are we are picking outside the bottom-5 this year so yeah the standings do say we are pretty much finished the sit at the bottom collecting picks stage. And when you consider the man games lost to injury angle, the number of rookie D we played night in and night out it's even more apparent that the odds of us being at the bottom of the league moving forward are pretty low.
He will be same height as Shaq by the end of the week.He grew 3 inches overnight?
Are we really trying to ice similar rosters to the Gomez/Plekanec days? MB lowered expectations this much? When was the last the Habs had 2 genuine 60+ pts centers at the same time on the team ?
Plekanec and Gomez in 2009-2010 ? Plekanec and Koivu in 2007-2008 ? Koivu and Ribeiro 2003-2004 ? Koivu and Damphousse 1997-1998 ?
These were all fun competitive years and it's starting to date a lot. And we don't need a player of Dubois' level ?
