I don't think we can beat LAs package in terms of players ready to play now.

Well I've read somewhere that their front office met this week and the idea of a rebuild might best for them......trying to find a link but all I got it's this talking about that meeting

Well… that’s true of the alleged offer…. which all feels like total BS.

I mentioned it earlier but “leaked” real offers don’t end well. It’s either a break of trust between GM’s (see Vinny for Higgins) that results in the offer being pulled or only a shitshow that has no merit.

Pretty sure Blake has no intent on giving up his upper hand by showing his hand to the whole goddamn league

This is all a play, IMO

I wonder if Hughes could have proposed 2 different trades to Winnipeg.

If he's dead set on adding a center this summer, then maybe he "lowballed" Winnipeg initially while he explores the possibility of moving up in the draft to secure Smith. If he's unable to move up and Smith is gone in the top 4 then maybe Winnipeg knows that the "2nd offer" would then be on the table.

No clue if that's the case, but if Hughes views Smith as option A and PLD as option B then Winnipeg could be waiting to see if a bidding war breaks out between us and LA if Smith gets taken before our pick.

Let's be honest, all these insiders are getting their leaks from only one side and it's not MTL or LA. Chevy is trying to milk the situation to try to squeeze as much as he can. And we would be asking the same from Hughes if he was dealing with a similar situation. For now, I don't buy any info that comes out until a trade is done. All of this is just a smokescreen and there's enough smoke around MTL at this time.

There is something weird here. I get that LA's offer may be more attractive to the Jets, but if that is the case why not give permission to talk extension? It's obvious that LA wont pull the trigger before they speak with PLD camp. We'll have to see if this change shortly.

So either LA is not an option for a trade and sign, Jests are only using them to bait MTL to pay more or the Jets are mismanaging this thing badly....

If you were in Chevaldayof’s shoes, would you be 100% confident PLD is interested in signing a longterm deal w LAK?

If PLD is granted permission, and there’s no fit, Chevaldayof has gone from having some leverage to zero negotiation leverage

I think the deal between WPG and LAK is set, it's just the terms between PLD and LAK. PLD's camp are pushing the news out so to get the Habs involved -- (1) to push LAK to sweeten the pot and (2) to have another offer on the table and see what they can get from his preferred destination (MTL).

I don't think we're going to get him.

I was kinda hoping this thread would hit 10,000 posts before the trade with LA happened but I didn't think we could get there but with this news that the Habs might be back in we just might get there yet.

I would because I would only speak with LA if I was inform by the player agent that this is a place he's willing to sign long term.

If they actually offered Vilardi we have no chance.

It depends on what PLDs camp was asked to provide - a list of acceptable teams is “yeah here are 5-markets I’d be ok with” nowhere does that state I’m willing to sign a longterm deal, I’m ok going there for next year …
