This makes no sense though, if they're negotiating so hard with LA it means Dubois told them he's ready to sign long-term there IMO.
Who said they are négociating hard? Dave flippin Pagnotta? Come on. He is the only one to have confirmed this. Nobody at TSN or Sportsnet.

What a weird view of LA. You know millionaires don’t live in Compton, right? That’s like using Montréal-Nord and RDP as a reason to not live in Montreal.

So basically what you are saying is they will live strictly in their neighborhood right?
I have been to LA many many times.
You are right there are beautiful areas.
The Staples center in definitely not one of them. Anyhow. It’s your opinion and you are also right

Basu reporting the Habs are still trying to make a deal work

In essence it’s maybe a ploy by the Jets to leak all of this to get a better deal from Montreal.

This is agonizing even though it shouldn't be. No matter what happens we'll be left underserved. If we do acquire PLD there will be a gnawing feeling that were were forced to overpay for him due to the bidding war. If we don't get him, well, we squandered a chance to move some of our prospects and assets for a bonafide upgrade to our top6 who has size and strength and youth.

Changed NOTHING. He will NOT sign in LA
He wants to be in Montreal badly.
Problem is atm. Hughes isn’t buying into this bs.
His offer will stand pat for the Peg.
No worries y’all. If he is traded, he will be a Habs in 2024/25. Enjoy
What makes you so sure of this?

I don’t think Hughes should sit on his hands and wait until every bad contract naturally expires. We have about 10m in cap space if Price is placed on LTIR, so unless the acquisition cost is too much (which it very well could be) there isn’t any reason for not improving the on-ice roster for next year.

Rebuilding requires building. You don’t build a winning team without making moves and putting a roster together. Not doing so on account of Gallagher and Armia’s contract is ridiculous. Talk about a sunk cost.

It’s so convenient that our prospect pool is simultaneously hyped and pumped up whenever we’re meant to be complacent and then brushed aside and diminished whenever our team misses out on a trade. It’s a long running trend. We somehow have a promising prospect pool and also cannot spare a single asset from anywhere for fear of catastrophically harming the Habs’ organization.
I don't disagree but I would prefer to blow as many holes as possible in our roster and fill them with existing assets. There are very possibly some NHL calibre players who won't be a good fit here in the long term but will have value somewhere else. My take is we need to see these players in the NHL to maximize the possible returns. A good example is Ylonen he is worth more now having NHL games under his belt than if he didn't. At that point have at it. While acquiring Dubois may have some short term benefits the long term costs may be too prohibitive. I'm not going to lambaste the braintrust for not making deals they aren't comfortable with. The tell-tale year for me will be 2024/25. If we haven't seen dramatic improvements in both the on ice personnel and our standing in the league I wouldn't hesitate to be critical of the areas we are found weak in.

The money shouldn't influence the trade IMO, it's more about the term.

Is he willing to sign for 1 year? 2,3,4? 8?

???? The money, the terms everything affect it.
Even where he plays in the line-up, with who he plays and what are they plans down the road too

Everything matters.

I think this is effectively true of most ultra rich people in big cities. They live in their ultra rich gated communities where their kids go to private schools. Multimillionaires live in a bubble.

Only way I see us getting Dubois, assuming Suzuki, Caufield, Dach, and Guhle are off the table, is if Hughes ponies up Slaf or Hutson - or maybe a package with Matheson and Beck.

To be fair the only reputable person who's mentioned this is LeBrun and he stated they haven't even finished the framework of the deal and LA aren't allowed to speak with Dubois about a potential extension until they are on common ground. Dubois could say yeah LA sounds good discuss a trade then give his numbers to LA later and have them say oh no thanks that's way more than we wanted to pay you.
That's what happened when MaxPAc was "traded to the LAK, ironically.

Agonizing?!? If nothing happens before July 1st, prepare to hear about it every day until next season begins

Or the Jets/Kings deal falls apart, Chevy comes to Hughes with his tail between his legs "Okay, Kent, let's talk" and Kent now offers Hoffman + Armia.

I wouldn’t give him up & I suspect neither will HuGo, but, I could see Jets zoned in on Mailloux TBH
