If you care about that first, who are you targeting? Specially considering we have the 5th OA now in a deep draft with a 31st and a 37th.

I prefer getting a solid top 6 C at 25 yo, seriously.
Habs may suck again next year, so you're missing out on a potentially better player in the long run.

That's the scary part.

Habs, if healthy should be 10thish at worst, potentially better.

If the Habs did offersheet PLD and he did sign it and the Jets take the compensation and run, why not just offer that to the Jets instead of the offersheet ?

Habs should make a deal, whether trade, or signing to acquire a dman who can do a better job on the pp.

Habs also miss a chance to send cap back.

If I'm the Jets, I make sure I have the trade I want before granting permission to LA to talk contract extension. It might all fall apart because LA realizes that PLD might want more $$$ than they are willing to pay and maybe he wants less years than they are comfortable with in terms of what they're willing to give up in a trade.

For example, Pacioretty to LA, at least the deal was in place before Habs let Max talk contract with LA.
Well, that's the point... That trade teams agreed on has no real value because it all depends on Dubois and his camp...

Anyway, moving on cuz this seems like the chicken-egg dilemma.

not so sure about that LA is a great city to live in when you have money

Traffic can be very annoying tho its worst then NYC
Not what PLD wants. He isn’t that type of person. Besides LA is a crappy place to live now, unless of course you are Hispanic and love traffic and violence and and and
PLD wants to play and live in his province.
Up to him, Brisson and the Habs to figure it out.
My guess is the Habs might offer more after the draft depending on the outcome.

That's the low percentage move.. I.E. a player drafted is very rarely better than an already established RFA.

Why would the Jets not take it without the offer sheet? Because they said they want roster players.

If the Jets want to trade him to LA, I don't think there is much PLD or the Habs can do about it.

The only scenario to "force" a trade to MTL is for PLD to refuse to sign with the Kings. But, if they are willing to overpay him, it's going to be hard for PLD to say no to LA lifestyle, even if his preference is to play for the habs.
And you honestly think LA will give up those pieces for a player that will openly tell them he won’t sign there? Hmmm 🤔 naw

I posted numerous line combinations and at no point will I think that exercise was foolish. I enjoy brainstorming possible scenarios, day dreaming about potential lineups, discussing trade targets and chewing the fat on who the best prospects are for our team.

Kind of why I joined HF boards in the first place.
Bruh the best insider in Hockey said it he'd put PLD as being a Hab at 95% in his opinion. So foolish of us to think it was more likely than not he'd end up here.
Friedman said there was a 95% chance PLD would be a Hab. So I don't think it foolish at all to speculate about what the future core would look like with him.

Still not surprising Friedman was wrong.

To me it's no different than when Aho signed with us. Aho used us to get the term and price he wanted from Carolina knowing they would match Montreal.

He'll get what he wants from LA (or whoever ends up with him) because he'll have Montreal's offer in his back pocket.

And yes, its foolish to listen to anyone with a made up percentage, especially those in the media.

This makes no sense though, if they're negotiating so hard with LA it means Dubois told them he's ready to sign long-term there IMO.

The reports are they're working on an 8 year extension with the Kings.

He wants to play in Montreal. But there are also other cities he wants to play in.
To be fair the only reputable person who's mentioned this is LeBrun and he stated they haven't even finished the framework of the deal and LA aren't allowed to speak with Dubois about a potential extension until they are on common ground. Dubois could say yeah LA sounds good discuss a trade then give his numbers to LA later and have them say oh no thanks that's way more than we wanted to pay you.

If you was PLD what would you do? If home is where your heart is .

Take the 8 yr deal from LA and lock in now,

or wait just 82 more games and sign a 8 yr deal with Habs .

What a weird view of LA. You know millionaires don’t live in Compton, right? That’s like using Montréal-Nord and RDP as a reason to not live in Montreal.

So I'm assuming PLD wants to play in Montreal to be closer to his friends and family....It's certainly not for the great weather. If he signs an extension in LA, he would pretty much be as far as he can possibly get from Montreal out of all NHL teams.
He probably wants MTL and his GF wants LA lol.

Exactly. People acting like Winnipeg owns PLD and can send him where they please. They don't own shit. The human factor for PLD has to be factored in. I personally would want to work at home if that was possible.

It all depends on what value PLD places on that.

Remember when our Max Pac refused a LA trade?
Yeah when you have money you can stuff your home with a bunch of guns and be ready.
Paciorretty proves nothing it could of been because of the contract or the team and not the city

If your a middle class or poor LA can suck but when your rich its a great city to live in

lets not act like Montreal is perfect lots of bad things here

did you speak with him ? because im pretty sure you have no clue what he wants its all speculation at this point yes we all know he likes Montreal and would play here but it was NEVER said he would only play here

matter fact Vachon and hes source confirmed he would play for LA

If the Habs were guaranteed to finish around 10th I'd potentially take that chance depending on the contract.

I'm not confident in that the Habs will finish around 10th, or better.

Trading for a pretty good player with an unprotected 1st and your team isn't that good is a move that gets a person fired.

Now, if PLD was a consistent 80 point player, 30 goal scorer hell yeah I'd do that.

I think PLD wanted to not be a Jet more than he wanted to be a Hab. Him opening up his list to his high spots gave the Jets all the leverage they needed. Habs just not in a position to make this type of add now. Maybe in two/three years. There are always other players, they don't have to be born in Quebec.

The Kings and Habs worked out a trade deal remember?
Only problem was, Max Pacioretty was not in agreement ,he was
not signing there...and every Hab fan should always thanks Max for that....(we got Nick instead)

The Jets and Kings can work out a trade all they like, but it could be
nothing but a big waste of time . PLD very well could be like
Max Pacioretty in the sense of PLD is willing to go to LA,
but he ain't goona sign there..for 1 yr only ..That won't be appealing to LA
and the trade falls thru .
