First off no deal has been announced, and one of Friedman, LeBrun, Seravalli or Chris Johnson always are the first to break major trades… and not a single word out of any of them into late last night

More importantly, MBs an advisor not GM, AGM, President of hockey ops… he’s a paid consultant to the LAK
Where the F did I say he signed in LA??
Go back and read my posts on PLD

You are changing your tune? Learned something new?
Changed NOTHING. He will NOT sign in LA
He wants to be in Montreal badly.
Problem is atm. Hughes isn’t buying into this bs.
His offer will stand pat for the Peg.
No worries y’all. If he is traded, he will be a Habs in 2024/25. Enjoy

I think he meant can the Habs still do an offer involving a 1st and 3rd.

They can, but you can't put protection on that 1st, so that's risky and I doubt Hughes and Co will do it.
If you care about that first, who are you targeting? Specially considering we have the 5th OA now in a deep draft with a 31st and a 37th.

I prefer getting a solid top 6 C at 25 yo, seriously.

I have no idea why you would work on a trade before knowing if the player and the team will get a deal done...

This is like Pacioretty to the Kings and he then nixed the whole trade...

If I'm the Jets, I make sure I have the trade I want before granting permission to LA to talk contract extension. It might all fall apart because LA realizes that PLD might want more $$$ than they are willing to pay and maybe he wants less years than they are comfortable with in terms of what they're willing to give up in a trade.

For example, Pacioretty to LA, at least the deal was in place before Habs let Max talk contract with LA.

Not to mention the fact that even after both teams put the trade parameters together, the Kings will want to know they can sign Dubois, who is a restricted free agent -Pierre LeBrun
I'm surprised at how many things still need to be ironed out.

They still don't have a solid framework + PLD hasn't been granted the chance to talk contract.

This could fall appart in 15,000 different ways.

Exactly this. PLD essentially has the power of a UFA at this point. LA and Winnipeg can come up with a deal that satisfies both of them. But a second deal needs to be made after that between PLD and LA. If PLD wants Montreal above all else and feels comfortable that something like 8 million in Montreal is a good number, the cost for LA to lure him away from that will have to be high.

Let's say for a minute you work for a company. Live in a City. Have a great work/life balance and make 8 million dollars a year with job security for 8 years.

Let's say a rival company comes to you and says, we want you to work for our company, but you have to relocate across the country. We will pay you 20% more than your current employer. Do you take it? It all depends on how valuable your work/life balance is.

No he won’t.

Hopefully this saga ends soon. And all the members who posted possible line combinations that included PLD will realize how foolish the exercise was.

To be honest thank God the patches deal fell apart. Imagine our current rebuild sans Suzuki and with a half broken Vilardi.

From Lebrun’s Athletic Article

It sure feels like the Kings are front-runners on Pierre-Luc Dubois, but as of Sunday evening, there was still lots of work to be done on that front. It didn’t help that both front offices were traveling Sunday to Nashville, putting some conversations on hold.

The Habs have tried here, for sure, but it sounds like they’re simply not as good a trade fit for a Jets team that doesn’t want to rebuild. The Kings can provide players who can step into the Jets lineup right away.

Again, there’s still work to be done here. Not to mention the fact that even after both teams put the trade parameters together, the Kings will want to know they can sign Dubois, who is a restricted free agent. Those contract conversations haven’t happened yet, either. The Jets and Kings would both need to feel comfortable a trade was in the final stages before the Kings got to that conversation with the Jets’ blessing.

I'd have a good laugh if Dubois squashed the deal because he doesn't want to sign long term in LA. Not because I'm counting on him coming to Montreal or even want to give up the peices and cap space to get him. More just to laugh at those obnoxious Jets fans who have been pretty vocal since this whole thing began.

The reports are they're working on an 8 year extension with the Kings.

He wants to play in Montreal. But there are also other cities he wants to play in.

I posted numerous line combinations and at no point will I think that exercise was foolish. I enjoy brainstorming possible scenarios, day dreaming about potential lineups, discussing trade targets and chewing the fat on who the best prospects are for our team.

Kind of why I joined HF boards in the first place.

Bruh the best insider in Hockey said it he'd put PLD as being a Hab at 95% in his opinion. So foolish of us to think it was more likely than not he'd end up here.

Jets aren't moving him without a pre-signed extension prior to a trade, and neither will any club, unless it's at the deadline as a rental.

I don’t know MB is there as a consultant so anything can happen 😂
They might think that if they treat him well he will change his mind.
But you are most probably right, putting the Habs in the drivers seat.

Friedman said there was a 95% chance PLD would be a Hab. So I don't think it foolish at all to speculate about what the future core would look like with him.

Still not surprising Friedman was wrong.

not so sure about that LA is a great city to live in when you have money

Traffic can be very annoying tho its worst then NYC

If the Jets want to trade him to LA, I don't think there is much PLD or the Habs can do about it.

The only scenario to "force" a trade to MTL is for PLD to refuse to sign with the Kings. But, if they are willing to overpay him, it's going to be hard for PLD to say no to LA lifestyle, even if his preference is to play for the habs.
