I’m actually pretty fine with not acquiring PLD but it’s definitely frustrating to never be the team acquiring the fun, in-demand player. Why is the price always too high?

We need at least three top6 players! Where are they going to come from?
Suzuki, Caufield, Dach, 50A-2023 (after Monahan for one year) and hopefully Slafkofsky. That's potentially 5. Anderson until Farrell or Heineman or Roy or another pick eclipses him.

I think that has happened exactly twice in this city. Mark Langston and Thomas Vanek. Some might argue Kovalev. But that’s pretty much the sum total of times Montreal got the player everyone wanted in a trade.

The Jets fans on their board are so consumed with Habs fans and the low offers over the past month or so that they have dedicated every 2nd post to Habs fans. I think we got in their heads! LOL

In the end, i am relieved that Hughes displayed patience in not pulling the trigger on PLD. Hopefully this is the end of the saga. If PLD wants out of LA, i hope that is the warning sign to stay far far away.

Its called a rebuild. It takes time. Shortcuts generally hurt you in the end.

People act like its a done deal but these writers don't hold much value... Pagnotta has a terrible track record and often calls deals that aren't true.

I think PLD will take his time here, Montreal is still his first choice but he can't control what Hugo offer. He not leveraging us like many are saying, there's more to it than signing a UFA.

He can score goals like a 2nd liner.
21 goals in 68 games is not what I expect for that price tag. Even RHP had 14 in half the number of games. Sure he brings some other things to the table but his lack of defensive play and passing ability make him overpriced on a better team.

I don’t know if that’s a good top6.

The smokes too much right now for there not to be a fire

Would be hilarious if Vilardi immediately asks for a trade out of Winnipeg if he ends up there. Though if he can bear it he'll probably jack up his stats with Kyle Connor and earn a fat contract.

Vilardi is still 3 years away from UFA, and isn't at all settled in NHL not something he will do.

I believe LAK have already applied to take him to arbitration. He's RFA.

Is it Joe from Marché Tania? Dude is super connected

Nope, close though:

Would have been happy to get PLD but there was a pretty hard limit on what I'd be ok giving up. Glad to see Hughes had a limit too and is sticking to it. We are not in a place to be overpaying for mediocre talent. Stay the course and there will be other opportunities.

The hold up is PLD doesn't want to sign long term with LA.

Blake and Bergevin are trying to convince him.

As per my source
That would make sense, he offered a list but still prefers MTL and only wants to sign here long term. Wouldn't be mad to see him sign there for one year, it wpuld mean he really wants to come home when he legally can.

Mediocre talent is now first line production? Funny.

Habs can put Beck, Farrell and Harris on the table, with Anderson and Flo pick. It equals LA offer and cheaper. If they want Dvo, take it for free or maybe 50% salary paid.
Not really.

The Jets were CLEAR, they want NHL players, not future. That mean no Beck or Farrell and no picks.

As for Anderson, Harris it's two pieces but they most likely want a center. Dvorak is considered a negative so not considered. The only player similar to Vilardi is Dach and nothing else, then add more.

Don't get me wrong, I like PLD alot and maybe mediocre isn't the best word, but he's just not a game breaker. There are MANY players of his talent level around the league.

It’s a done deal. Even if you think one of these reporters is a flake, there’s Way too many of them reporting the same thing now.

Dubois is a nice thing to have in your line-up
Dubois is not a must have in your line-up either

There's many of those available in the league.
