Don't get me wrong, I like PLD alot and maybe mediocre isn't the best word, but he's just not a game breaker. There are MANY players of his talent level around the league.
How many game greakers in the league... 10? 15? These are never available tho. Thing is tier below, not many have the combination of his physical profile, playing position especially desire to play here. He's also just 25, most player with better pedigree are usually older. That's what makes him enticing.

It’s a done deal. Even if you think one of these reporters is a flake, there’s Way too many of them reporting the same thing now.
Nothing is a done deal until officially announced. Camman you know better, we just know there is smoke and interest on LA's part. Everything could stall at the contract negociation table.

All it takes is one false leak to make three average reporters say the same thing. The scenario playing out could be legit or could be some half baked attempt at forcing Habs to offer more.

I haven’t seen anyone from kings or PLD camp denying anything though. So leaning to legit.

I will say that usually deals are announced when they’re done. Don’t recall many situations where all this plays out like this. A lot of moving parts least of all Dubois having to actually sign an extension to seal it. He still controls things.

To be fair, this is the case for most large city, and that also includes cities outside of North-America like London, Paris, Singapore, Sydney….If you’re middle-class living in any of those cities, then it gets really expensive really quick.
I completely agree, but we're talking about Dubois who is about to sign a 68 million dollar or so contract.

And if he plays well he could sign another great contract at age 33, say make another 15-20 million in career earnings afterwards.

Also, Montreal is comparably expensive. It's closer to LA than to Dallas or Nashville in terms of cost of living.

This just in!!!

My sources confirm that PLD has requested a trade from the LA Kings. He’s rumoured to not want to goto any California teams, Columbus or Winnipeg.

His preferred destination is Montreal, but to do right by the LA Kings PLD has submitted a list of 5 or 6 teams he’d be ok with.

On the Dubois situation, there is also a lot of smoke around him not wanting to sign in LA long term, which kinda fits with what he has been saying all along. WPG either trades him to LA for a year (which LA will never do) or trade it to Montreal. You just know the offer from LA drastically changes if Dubois is not signed and then WPG has to go for the 2nd best offer, which is probably Montreal.

We don’t know the full story, but it seems Hughes is playing his cards really well here.

Probably against the rules to indicate to Hughes that he won’t sign an extension but could be passed through his agent. Would be crucial info to have on hand.

Stage 1 was for PLD to announce that he wants an 8 year $9M deal. This was the framework.

Stage 2 was for him to send names of teams he’d be interested in playing for.

Stage 3 was for those teams to make Winnipeg offers that They could choose from.

Stage 4 is for Brisson to finalize the details of the 8 year contract which the team Winnipeg agreed to deal with - with the understanding that the parameters of his contract have been agreed to at stage 1.

We’re at stage 4 now. The details that they’re working on in the contract are small points. How big of a no trade clause. When does it come in. How much of the cash is front loaded. None of those details are deal breakers.

I’m not saying this is a 100% slam dunk, it’s over. But it’s like 95-99% done.

We aren’t going to get into a pissing match with a team like LA. They have assets they can afford to part with, we don’t. We aren’t going to pay a heavy price for a PLD. It makes no sense.

Agreed, if I was making 9M a year doing anything else than hockey, I would probably choose LA over Montreal. For some hockey players though, I think playing in Montreal is special (for good reasons and bad reasons).

As I think Koivu once said, this is the best place in the league if you’re winning and the worst if you’re losing.

LA also paid to acquire Kevin Fiala just last year. Seems like they’re serious about their re-tool and don’t feel like pissing years away chasing some “optimal” result from drafting.

Seems like other teams have assets and drive to get players to substantially improve their roster. Most of these aggressively run teams are either more successful or as successful as the Habs. Teams that didn’t exist seven years ago have assets to acquire such players and win the Stanley Cup. Somehow the Habs happen to not be able to do this, basically ever.

Anyone who wants to give Bergevin credit has to admit he left a mess for Hughes. It wasn’t a “Stanley Cup Final” quality roster nor prospect pool and there were tons of underwhelming contract commitments to players who don’t come close to overperforming their cap hit.

Not really mad about PLD and I don’t think he’s the long awaited elite forward but it would’ve been nice to acquire him. Just as it was nice for LA to acquire Kevin Fiala last year. When you have a chance to add a substantial upgrade to your top6, you do it.

July 5th & 6th. Players can file for arbitration up to July 5th.
Players can, how about team arbitration? And what if we pull a 1 year offer sheet for 6.4 mil (1st & 3rd) before that?

If Bergevin in LA steals PLD from Habs , Habs will retaliate by signing Max Pacioretty..
Hmm nope.. short-term improvements are off the plan apparently.

He said he doesn’t know if it’s a PLD trade. So it could also be in a trade to move up in the draft. Seems more logical at this point in time.
No moving up the draft is non-sensical, just sit on 5 and pick Michkov if the other clubs are dumb. Or pick Leonard, it's all good.

If he wasn’t looking to cash in big time, I’d love to have him back. Was never a super big fan because he seemed a bit wound up but he can score and isn’t a bad character.

Better players bring up trade values and results. We can’t make the next step (be a good team) without making the next step (acquire talent and depth of a a good team).
