LA still has some cap crunching. They have 9 million in cap.

They essentially need to get rid of Arvidson and Iafallo for nothing to pay off signing Dubois then still sign a number one goalie, add 3 D and like 2 forwards for the 9 mill.

If Vilardi isnt part of the deal, they need even more cap

Not impossible but work to be done
This cap crunch is so brutal. I don't understand how the NHL couldn't extend some credit to the players and help every team out in the process.

If PLD signs long term elsewhere then he was never serious about wanting to play in Montreal. He could simply sign a one year deal and come here next summer.
Nonsense. He never said Montreal was the ONLY place he would play. Montreal is on a short list but some fans are putting OBLIGATIONS on him to sign below fair value. It's ridiculous.

Dubois is not obliged to prove loyalty or anything. It's just a question of whether his contract will meet Hughes' criteria in a rebuilding framework.

For me, looking at what other 60-70 point players get, looking at his projected role with the team, looking at the cap structure and the need to have money to fill other key spots, PLD is worth in the mid to high $7Ms, no more than Caufield money.

Bingo, spot on.

I don’t think any of this is true. Do you have a source? Like something legit?
This was shared on twitter, and on this board of course.....was said this IS why he was at the draft?
And yes, like 98% of what gets discussed could have been just a story, but many people had it on their radar.
So where there is smoke..........seems very plausable.

The entire why he was at the draft story was a load of bs. I don’t know why ppl are still parroting this speculation as fact. Hughes got his guy at the draft in Dach. The deal was worked out ahead of time. This was not a case of getting his 2nd best option.

The story you are referring to has no factual basis. It is entirely made up.

The only true part is that PLD was at the draft.

Listen here, we can rightfuly deduce Dubois's desire to leave Winnipeg was greater than his desire to come to Montreal. By putting a gun to Chevy's head, he also made it less likely he'd end-up in Montreal.

At this point, you'd have to be naive to believe there's any real desire to come here.

Another day in the saga PLD in Montreal.
Another day waiting for the 5th pick.
Don't forget life goes on outside the hockey world and gossips.
I hope folks here do things they have to do like give another coat on their wood patio, etc.
Going strawberry picking while these apocalyptic fires and smoke engulfs Montreal

Could be right.................the amount of foolishness that hits the internet thanks to the media in Montreal, guys like R Lavoie etc can take on a life of it's own...............remember Hossa's gloves! LOL

I would think the next few days will be a bonanza of details of things, that never materialized, or even came close............reported as going down............LOL

I do think, HuGo will entertain us....................with what, who knows................

Seems LA is serious about grabbing PLD. Habs have to stay the course.
Have been saying all along, it would be a nice add, but certainly not a need at this point.........
I still think there are smokescreens everywhere right now.

Some say PLD has been a slacker at times........imagine LA and being paid more money, and that atmosphere, can he and will he bring it for 82 games? It will be interesting.......still not convinced any team is really in the race, besides the habs.

Winnipeg has so little leverage. It will be an interesting week.

It’s wild the difference between the two choices for him. In LA he would fade into relative obscurity. No one in the city would remotely care who he was, but he would have nice weather and a chill job where he could show up and get paid millions and no one really cares if he has a bad game.

MTL on the other hand he would be one of the most famous people in the entire province and would have immense pressure and expectations every single day.

We know the choice that Phil Danault made but everybody is different. The fact that this story has even gotten this big means, to me, either PLD is using us to raise his price, or he truly wants to be here.

All PLD has to do is come to this board and know he will be eaten alive. Meanwhile Kings have 5 pages.

That is either good or bad depending on each person. Suzuki is top 5 on off ice endorsements in the NHL and is not even francophone. Imagine PLD here? Everyone is different, some thrive under the spotlight and pressure of the fans and media, others need to be in nashville, tampa bay, Los angeles ..

Does Lecavalier get the same treatment when he goes back to Tampa (in the streets, restaurants, amongst the people of Tampa etc..) that even a retired goon would here in Montreal? No he doesn't.
