This might take Avs out of the running, but it only adds to the speculation he'll go to Nashville.

Preds have been linked to PLD also, and they just freed up $4M on the cap. And they are far from being in cap trouble. They have a little under $20M in space and no big names to sign.

But if the preds have 20 million in caps space why is it any more likely they get him now vs when they had 16 million?

An offer sheet wouldn't hurt Winnipeg, it would probably get them a bigger return, if not, they match it and take their time to make a trade,

I don't think Winnipeg cares about an offer sheet

If they match an offer sheet they can’t trade PLD for one year. If it’s for one year that takes him to UFA.

If it’s the Habs that offer sheet PLD an unprotected 1st is a good return, but if it’s a top contender a low 1st round draft pick isn’t that great a return (similar to what the Habs got for not matching Kotkaniemi’s offer sheet).

I believe when a team matches an offer sheet, they can't trade that player for a full calendar year. That would be a disaster for Winnipeg. They would be better off letting the player go and taking the picks.

Line-up spot. They had Duchene and Johansen as top-6 C. With Johansen out, they have an opening at C for PLD.

Also, that extra 4M could help them with a PLD extension, but also come in handy on July 1st.

Let's say PLD signs for 8M. With 16M cap space before, the Preds would have 8M left to play with. Now with Johansen out, and again if PLD signs for 8, they will have about 12M left to play with.

Not if it’s an offer sheet for a 1 year contract. That takes PLD straight to UFA if they match it.

I doubt he signs a one year offer. He wants a long term deal,

PLD doesn't want to stay in Winnipeg, if he signs an offer sheet, his fate is in Winnipegs hands, why would he put himself in that position?

In any case, my original point stands, people are acting like Winnipeg has to trade him by draft day, or July 1st....they don't

They can't trade a player who signed an offer sheet

Winnipeg can't and won't play hardball with pld forcing him to sit out a year.

You clearly have no idea what you’re talking about at all here Pickle

Duchene doesn't play C for them anymore. Has been a right winger for a while.

Even more reason for Winnipeg to play hard ball with him,

Tell him if he doesn't sign a one year contract, he will be sitting out for a season or two,
Works for us he comes home on a even bigger discount after a season on the bench :)

If he gets to July 1st and a deal isn’t in place I believe the risk of an offer sheet is real. I know he wants a long term deal, but signing a 1 year offer sheet, potentially gets him off the Jets and takes him straight to UFA next season. Are the Jets really going to match a 1 year offer sheet and lose him for nothing? I can’t see it.

I don’t think the Jets can take the risk of not having a deal done by June 30th.

He doesn't want to stay or play in Winnipeg, if he signs an offer sheet, he opens himself up to that possibility,

Why would he want to take that risk?

Why would he want to put his fate into the hands of the Winnipeg organization?

If he signs an offer sheet, the potential for him to play another season in Winnipeg is there, why would he do that?

Because they would NOT match. If they do they get nothing for him.

If he signs it it would be a calculated risk the Jets don’t match (which I don’t think they would depending on the offer sheet compensation). But as of July 1st he has that option.

Does it matter what the ompensation is? If they match they can't trade him so they lose him for nothing after this season.
