I truly think this PLD story is dead unless Winnipeg comes around and really lowers their standards of what they want back.

These past 6 months of talking about this will be all for not

It's been almost a year. This all started at last year's draft, which was held a bit later, in early July.

Agreed,

I still won't be surprised if they hang onto PLD till the TDL

People are acting like Winnipeg HAVE to trade him

Uhh, they kinda do. It's his last year until UFA and has no contract and not signing with them, so yeah, they have to. Sitting out will only have them end up with nothing.

Lots of players go into their final year without a contract for the next season, its not uncommon,

And he wouldn't be "sitting out" he would be playing hockey,

There are no reports of him saying he will not play this season,

Would you trade one of our young players one on one for Dubois? Suzuki? Caufield? Dach? Slafkovsky? Guhle?

You wouldn't get PLD one for one for Slaf or Guhle

They still don't HAVE to trade him, is my point

No they don't. They can let him sit out the season and sign wherever he wants as an FA next Jul 1.

Edit: Now they could play a game of chicken and say we can't get good value for you so either sign a 1 year contract with us or sit out the season.

If he sits out his UFA eligibility gets pushed a year to July 2025. He will have a contract either by signing or team elected arbitration which also prevents an offer sheet.

Even more reason for Winnipeg to play hard ball with him,

Tell him if he doesn't sign a one year contract, he will be sitting out for a season or two,
If the Jets goal is to get the most for him, sitting him out a year won’t increase his value. They’ll just be more desperate to get something for him and he’ll still have his preferred destination(s).

He most certainly would be presented with an offer sheet in that scenario.

4.1m (2nd round pick) is better than nothing. Winnipeg takes the second, or keeps the player and loses him for nothing next summer.

Edit, even 6.1 (first and third) would likely work out well for Montreal, with pld were probably drafting around 10th.

If they want to sign him to a one year contract they can take him to arbitration (unless he signs an offer sheet prior to that).

I think a deal gets done by June 30th at the latest.

Probably takes Colorado out of the picture if they grabs johansen cheap

This might take Avs out of the running, but it only adds to the speculation he'll go to Nashville.

Preds have been linked to PLD also, and they just freed up $4M on the cap. And they are far from being in cap trouble. They have a little under $20M in space and no big names to sign.
