He'll also have a set at Just for Laughs.

They already had rehearsals:

The impasse from a Habs-Jets perspective seems to be that the Jets want Dach (or better) level assets, and the Habs can only offer Anderson/Dvorak level assets.

What if, to resolve the value differential, the Habs agree to take Wheeler off the Jets' hands (Wheeler's got one year at 8.25 million left)

Jets need to shed salary and can't find a taker and are at the point of having to buy him out (buyout cap hit: 2x $2.57 million), No team seems to even want to trade for him at 50% retained since they can sign him for free after a buyout (at even potentially less money). This would be huge for the Jets and spare them Wheeler's buyout cap hit of

with Price's LTIR money, Habs can probably absorb Wheeler's entire salary for a year (and trade him at the deadline) or just bite the bullet and buy him out themselves.

Proposal frasmework:
PLD + Wheeler for Anderson + Dvorak + draft pick/prospect

Wheeler has an NMC, and Anderson has an NTC.

On Montreal,

Gallagher: 6 team NTC for length of contract
Anderson: 8 team NTC this year, next year it drops to 5 teams (July 1, 2024).
Dvorak: starts an 8 team NTC this year (July 1, 2023) which goes through final 2 years of contract.
Edmundson: 10 team NTC
Matheson: 8 team NTC
Allen: 7 team NTC this year, only 3 team next year.

If that was true trade would be done by now. He's exactly what Winnipeg wants for PLD. They're probably offering Kupari or Turcotte with Durzi.
Who would you rather have moving forward Vilardi or Dubois?

Also, Winnipeg should want some assurances the player they're getting would want to stay long term.

He actually wants an 8 year contract.
Yeah a deal would probably be done if he accepted 4 or 5. You can't blame him though the game plan from day 1 was to maximize this next contract. The timetable has been puched up but that is actually hindering the process. The entire wanting out of Winnipeg reality being known publically has hurt him IMO.

Dubois, but for Winnipeg, Vilardi is a still a young, cost controlled center who should hit 20g, 20a on a consistent basis. With Connors & Ehlers maybe he ups that to PLD level of 60 pts.

But, LAK need value contracts too, which PLD won't be. PLD turns 25 in a few days. Vilardi turns 24 in August. There's only a year apart. PLD is a center, not sure Vilardi is due to his skating.

Vilardi really is the best that Winnipeg can hope for unless a surprise team comes through like Florida moving Bennett & something else for him.

However, it's been reported that Winnipeg wants a 2023 1st round pick for PLD, which LAK's don't have.

If this drags on, Chevy will probably trade him to a non-Montreal team with a terrible offer just out of spite.

Depending on what the NYR are doing with their UFAs they could potentially offer Chytil + pick/prospect. But that's the problem with these situations it requires a lot of work to make happen even when all sides want it to happen.

Do you think he would do that for a TDL equivalent haul just to be free of the situation. How would that impact the team acquiring him in terms of this season? I'm assuming he could sit out but I can't see his agent recommending that.

The thing is it's hard to get a TDL equivalent haul because you have to pay the full caphit. One of the reasons TDL are so expensive is that the player you get has so little cap hit you are essentially circumventing the cap.

True. I do get the feeling that the goods have been laid out on the table and Winnipeg is waiting for someone to blink. Getting the value they want and having the deal signed may be impossible. What do they do in that case?

I’m sure jets would like Vilardi or Byfield, but no team clearly is offering what Jets want or a deal would’ve been consummated by now.

CBJ / PHI couldn’t wait to announce the Provorov deal despite the Cup finals going on

They will want to give the "contenders" as much time as possible to try and sort out their roster/cap and make the necessary room. But if that doesn't happen then I think they blink and take the best offer that's actually on the table. And since that offer likely has 2023 picks it means draft day is when they will blink.

For the Habs I would imagine we are one of (Maybe even the only) teams with an offer on the table ready to go simply because we have the capspace and don't need any cap gymnastics.

Prediction: PLD will be traded to Habs before the draft. Anderson, Harris and 1st pick Florida will go to Winnipeg Jets.

For a team to give up a lot for Dubois, an extension would have to be part of a deal. So there's negotiating the trade and negotiating the contract.

Also, not all trades take the same amount of time to make. I remember Andre Savard saying sometimes deals came together quickly, sometimes it took a long time to finalize one.

Cheveldayoff letting Dubois call the shots makes Winnipeg look incredibly weak imo. I can see them sitting on him if they don’t get exactly what they want threw the sign and trade if only to try and send a message that they won’t be bullied by other managers and players.
