That’s very true, but Chevy must be shitting bricks at all this PLD’s 2023 summer bash in MTL. I mean the guy’s been residing in Montreal for a little while now but it’s the first summer where he’s everywhere like this.

Something’s definitely brewing, it’s a PR show.

Pretty obvious it's Brisson trying to force the move to Montreal while still getting him a big deal. Try and create public uproar or whatever while also giving them the plausible deniability. It looks normal enough without the context (Caufield is a Brisson client, PLD and Savard are friends and played together) but you can't just discount the negotiations in all of this.

If you’re any team seeing all these pics of PLD in Montreal, hanging out with all the Habs, how can you offer anything significant for a guy who obviously wants to be in Montreal?

I’m a strong believer of getting good players that want to be part of your team. I just don’t get why any team would blow their load on assets and a massive contract for a guy whose heart is in another city.
And to believe many here still believe he's only leveraging us and doesn't really want to be here like all the others... or needs to prove it with a hometown paycut. Too old, doesn't fit our rebuild Slaf will be better... we'll find better picks next year guys, just gotta tank more !!!

Some people are delusional.

Btw how tall is Savard? PLD easily has 2 inches on him.

Just the fact he’s in town and doing all these media attention things with current Habs tells me he wants to play here. He could well be traded elsewhere but that doesn’t mean he will sign with them.
Man, his agent has pulled all the stops. What a bombardment of exposure.

If this keeps up, he’s getting a medal from the National Assembly, a holiday named in his honor, followed by a throng of gullibles picketing Hughes’s office.

PLD and Savard are really good friends from their days in Columbus. Both live in Montreal during the off season.

Two friends hanging out in the city they live in isn't anything to remotely care about.
We've had PLD having drinks on a boat with Cole and getting hands on, and PLD having a hot soccer date with Savard. I wouldn't be shocked if we get photos of him frenching Pezzetta by tomorrow afternoon.

I can't see a team giving up much if he won't come in a sign and trade.

Can’t he just go to another team as a rental player and then become UFA?

I'd think we'd be able to top an offer a team makes for him as a rental.

And this is why I still do think we land him. If he truly wants to come here, and by every account he does, we should be able to beat any other deal for him assuming we get an extension worked out.

I'm not sure he truly wants to come here. But we'll find out this summer if he doesn't sign an extension elsewhere.

If Dubois isn’t dealt by the end of the first round in the upcoming draft, what happens then?

Does he simply accepts his qualifying offer (6M AAV) in order to hit UFA-status next summer?

Or does he file for arbitration before July 5th? (Winnipeg’s delay to do so is now extinct, I think.)

If Dubois files for arbitration, is it correct to assume that if it’s he who files the request, he then cannot accept an offer sheet, whereas he could if it would have been the Jets’ initiative?

In any event, if a trade cannot be struck and Dubois doesn’t file for arbitration, would the latter sign - and should the Habs consider - an offer sheet for 6.4M AAV / 1-year contract?

If Winnipeg matches, Dubois becomes de facto untradable and ends up UFA next summer; the Habs then use that window to try and acquire him for cap space only. More importantly, bargaining-wise, the Jets end up without any compensation whatsoever in that scenario.

If Winnipeg doesn’t match and Dubois ends up in Montreal, the Jets get an unprotected 2024 1st and a 3rd. Under the (reasonable) assumptions that Dubois can be locked up long term next January (max. 8.5M AAV, considering the UFA years bought) and that the Habs are outside of the bottom-10 by the end of next season, it seems like a worthy gamble. Even more so since the Habs could sell a few assets at TDL 2024 to replenish their draft capital.

In summary, the Jets’ risk management of an accepted 6.4M AAV OS would be as follow: compensation floor: Nothing / compensation ceiling: (Mid-?)1st + 3rd round picks.

All things considered, even if they have to compete with genuine interest and feasibility from another team (maybe Detroit?), from the unique Habs’ perspective - namely reasonable grounds to expect a long term commitment from Dubois if acquired - the investment should thus not go far beyond the 1st + 3rd threshold value.
Yeeeeeeaaah... no.

Lol this guy ain't signing a long term deal anywhere else. Just got the feeling this whole 5-6 team list thing is a massive bluff.

Chevy is getting played. My only hope is that Hughes doesn't get played right along with him.

Notice the list never leaked and how it’s seeming more and more like it’s complicated for LA to get done…

I'm not sure if he's the right guy for us or not. Ultimately though if we land him for reasonable value he gives us a legit top 2 centres for the first time since Koivu/Plekanec.

If he is our guy though, then the only option is to trade for him. Waiting for free agency is a good way to not get him at all.

So far he hanged out with some of Brisson's clients during the Grand Prix which included Caufield, as well as Savard one of his Columbus era buddy (they played 3 seasons together). I think there was a pic with Anderson too, another Columbus era acquaintance.

Still, it does make it looks like he really wants to come to Montréal, which raise the cost for any other destinations...

He was also vibing with Subban when he was with Caufield.

Or it’s the first time we actually pay attention at what he does

The impasse from a Habs-Jets perspective seems to be that the Jets want Dach (or better) level assets, and the Habs can only offer Anderson/Dvorak level assets.

What if, to resolve the value differential, the Habs agree to take Wheeler off the Jets' hands (Wheeler's got one year at 8.25 million left)

Jets need to shed salary and can't find a taker and are at the point of having to buy him out (buyout cap hit: 2x $2.57 million), No team seems to even want to trade for him at 50% retained since they can sign him for free after a buyout (at even potentially less money). This would be huge for the Jets and spare them Wheeler's buyout cap hit of

with Price's LTIR money, Habs can probably absorb Wheeler's entire salary for a year (and trade him at the deadline) or just bite the bullet and buy him out themselves.

Proposal frasmework:
PLD + Wheeler for Anderson + Dvorak + draft pick/prospect

Him parading about the city with every Hab under contract tells me he does lol
We'll see what happens when Boston, New York, New Jersey or LA offer him big money on a long term extension, and have a deal in place that Winnipeg is willing to accept...

Will he sign it or not?

He lives in Montreal. We've always known he's close with Savard. He was also on that boat with Hughes and Zegras, in addition to Caufield.
