According to information relayed by Marco Normandin and shared by Ken Wiebe, a well-informed journalist covering the Winnipeg Jets, the Los Angeles Kings could be willing to offer a very promising prospect like Quinton Byfield or Gabe Vilardi, as well as a solid defenseman in Sean Durzi , with the aim of acquiring Pierre-Luc Dubois.

wow! It's a huge proposition!

IN WINNIPEG:
- Quinton Byfield (2nd overall pick in 2020) OR Gabe Vilardi (41 points in 63 games this year)
- Sean Durzi (38 points in 72 games this season)
for
PLD

"Could be..."

In other words, speculation on the part of the journalist, and nothing else.

Durzi is an easy trade for them. He's not good defensively and they have both Clarke & Spence to replace him. He's essentially Barron, but 3 years older, smaller, worse skater, and even worse defensively.

I am interested to see if LAK do give Vilardi for PLD though. I'm sure that's who Winnipeg wants. I don't see LAK giving up on Byfield though.

By the time Montreal needs a player like Dubois, he won't be that player anymore. Instead you'll be stuck with someone putting up Dvorak numbers for 4 years. If at his peak he put up 63 points what will he produce at 29+ on the downside of his career? Anyone thinking he is the player that will go against the reality, and get better after 25 is fooling themselves. Great players remained effective, ones like Dubois become cap dumps.
Hold up, you do understand that his contract will be done at 32 right? When did we reach a world where 32 is when players become useless. Also he had a pro rated 71 pt season. If you tell me the Habs get a player that puts up 70 pts pro rated throughout most of his contract and he's not a liability on defence, I say sign me up. When was the last time the Habs had that. Max Pacioretty when he was in the high 60s?

Also this is coming from a relatively young Torontonian that doesn't care about appeasing Francophones. If I was Dubois, I wouldn't want to play in Columbus or Winnipeg either. Those places are booty. I can't imagine going from the GTA and then having to live in Winnipeg or Columbus. Sounds like hell

By the time Montreal is competing for a cup, Dubois won't be in that age range, Caulfield and Suzuki might be. if you want to discuss things, don't just shut down the conversation because it doesn't suit your agenda and dismiss numbers that require no interpretation of wishful thinking.
Yes he'll be 27-31. Big deal. Can't win cups with a bunch of 24 year olds. Even Mike Johnson just said on tsn that the Habs can't keep insulating their young core with young guys, they need vets. If Dubois counts as a vet (7th year) that's a nice age to be for veteran presence. Also veteran presence can be maturity in one's game, not always in the locker room. Habs already have two Jonathan Toews carbon copies in Suzuki and Guhle

Hopefully the Kings put together an absolute massive offer for PLD and then Chevy goes to PLD with an extension from the Kings and PLD looks at Chevy and says "nah bud you played yourself, it's still Montreal or nothing you lil bitch" and then the deal dies right there and we drink salty Jets fans tears for the rest of time f*** em

The fact there’s been no PLD trade announcement to LAK means there’s a high probability no such package has been offered.

If LAK put that offer up it is being finalized and Hughes is over it and looking elsewhere

Or it’s bogus.

It won’t beat the no politics thread I gave up

Max Domi put up 72 points without any of the pro rated crap. Didn’t mean he was a great player.

and then the jets move back to atlanta

I added the caveat of not a defensive liability. I was very careful when I wrote that part of the post

Also a bunch of us use the "pro rated crap" when looking at caufield's potential regarding this season and being on pace for 46 goals

Bingo!

This reeks of Winnipeg trying to create a bidding war where none exists. Neither team is going to give up their young core pieces for PLD, and Chevy is doing his best to create some pressure.

2023 Panthers 1st round pick
Justin Barron
Christian Dvorak
Prospect (B type, none of the higher end boys)

PLD signed to an 8x8 extension

That’s the best offer they’re getting (in my opinion obviously) from the Habs

I'm not afraid of $8M - $8.5M for a 60 pts + physical center entering his prime and a growing cap. I am afraid of waiting for the 24 off season or trying to lower his AAV by going with 5 years in term though.

$8M in 3+ years will be the new $6M threshold.
Interesting that you know, that but the agents for Caufield, Bratt and Hintz do not.

Too good. That's two first rounders + +

Dany Heatley
Great example. PLDs contract in terms of age would be the equivalency of Heatley from 06-14. He was still a good player 6 of those 8 years. The second last year was NHL average and the last was booty. My point with PLD was a contract finishing at 32 isn't bad as he'll be effective pretty much through all of it and might at the end. Players that usually greatly dip around the age of 32 usually have injury problems. If you're lucky enough to be healthy most of your career until 32, you'll probably just have a moderate plateau, especially if you're a high draft pick that didn't bust or spent a significant amount of time on the IR
